Meritokrasi

Meritokrasi (merit, dari bahasa Latin: mereō; dan -krasi, dari bahasa Yunani Kuno: κράτος kratos, 'kekuatan, kekuasaan') adalah sistem politik yang memberikan kesempatan kepada seseorang untuk memimpin berdasarkan kemampuan atau prestasi, bukan kekayaan atau kelas sosial.^[1] Kemajuan dalam sistem seperti ini didasarkan pada kinerja, yang dinilai melalui pengujian atau pencapaian yang ditunjukkan. Meskipun konsep meritokrasi telah ada berabad-abad lamanya, istilah ini sendiri diciptakan pada tahun 1958 oleh sosiolog Michael Dunlop Young dalam buku distopia politik dan satirenya yang berjudul The Rise of the Meritocracy.^[2]
