RN officer (1721–1786) The Battle of the Saintes Captain Taylor Penny (1721–1786) was an 18th-century officer of the Royal Navy who came to fame at the Battle of the Saintes. Life He was born in Weymouth in Dorset in 1721, probably into a seafaring family. He was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy on 6 August 1745.
