Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:06, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Zyxw, I noticed your recent removal of the Sports links template on some American male artistic gymnasts (Alex Diab, Alexander Artemev, etc.) and was curious as to the reasoning behind your choice. GauchoDude (talk) 14:44, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I see that you have been changing the links to the itsrugby.co.uk website in the articles about rugby union players. You're linking to a different tab of the players' profile (the "by year" tab) that gives fewer details and less interesting stats about the player than the previous link (to the "team career" tab), so your changes aren't really helpful. Can you explain why you are doing this? Without a reasonable explanation, I'm inclined to revert your changes. Ruggalicious (talk) 11:51, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruggalicious: I updated {{ItsRugby}} so it links to the "team career" tab, which hopefully addresses your concern. I was updating external links to use templates where they are available, such as that and {{ESPNscrum}} and {{EPCR}}. There are many reasons to use external link templates where available, including the ability to easily update the URL if it changes (as I just did yesterday with {{EPCR}}, fixing dead external links in over 300 rugby player articles with one change to that template) plus the ability to compare the player ID to Wikidata (which helps with fixing incorrect links here and in other language Wikipedias). -- Zyxw (talk) 12:14, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, yes, thank you! Now that the template links to the "team career" tab, I have no problem with your changes. The usefulness of the It's Rugby website has decreased considerably since they started hiding stats behind a pay-wall, but at least some of the stats are still accessible and fortunately there are now other reliable stats sites that can be used to fill in the "blanks". Hi Z can you advise if you can proofread a page I created for an individual in hockey and how I can get it published?

Please advise... the page is on my account. People1965 (talk) 07:51, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Laura Robson (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic article has a hatnote to the only other use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Noticed many of your edits today are to update the format of Instagram links, but I suspect WP:NOSOCIAL applies in many (if not most) of these cases? --ZimZalaBim talk 03:14, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I converted links which were already in those articles to use a template. If there are articles where that link shouldn't have been there in the first place, please feel free to remove it. -- Zyxw (talk) 03:20, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
