If it was somebody like Artcraft, they would likely have a valid copyright on the artwork, and so the cover could not be in the public domain unless they released it. If it was a Navy person, and done on the job, it would be validly PD. (The 1930s cover I uploaded just has a plain text cachet, so nothing copyrightable there.) Image source problem with Image:4th CAG at USMC War Memorial August 2004.jpgThanks for uploading File:4th CAG at USMC War Memorial August 2004.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged. As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:59, 18 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image copyright problem with Image:4th CAG at USMC War Memorial August 2004.jpgThank you for uploading File:4th CAG at USMC War Memorial August 2004.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 00:22, 19 October 2007 (UTC) Help DeskHi. Feel free to edit areas where I've added icons too. Here is how they work (I will explain this better on the talk page eventually:
TYPE is where I enter the type of museum it is. You can see all the types currently available here: Template:Museum WIKI LINK is the Wikipedia link to that museum's page. If there is no Wikipedia page for that museum, then I use this format:
I still provide a Wikipedia link even though there is no page. This way we will get a red link that can be clicked for someone to easily add the page. In this situation (where there's no Wikipedia article), I also add WEB LINK to that museum's website. I do not do this for museums that already have Wikipedia pages because the website should be on that respective page.
{{museum|TYPE}}(NO SPACE)[[WIKI LINK]](SPACE)|(SPACE)[http://WEB LINK/(SPACE)web]<br> I have not found a way around using <br> on the end. <br /> tagsI see that you're using proper <br /> tags. I had chosen to use regular <br> just plainly for simplicity. I want to make it as simple as absolutely possible so people don't take one look and immediately turn away when they want to add a museum. It is more confusing than it was before especially to someone who doesn't really know Wiki/HTML markup. Wikimedia automatically converts <br> to <br /> when it parses the page. For example, if you look in the page source somewhere where I did a <br>, you'll see that it does turn up as a proper <br />. I'd appreciate if you used regular <br> so it's all consistent.
Closed museumsHi, FieldMarine. It doesn't say anything about closed museums - you are right. But I believe that List of museums in the United States should only contain museums that still are open. I think I should start List of defunct museums in the United States for closed museums. It's good that you raised this issue because I may have forgotten that I did that. I don't know if you noticed but the closed museums are still in the page but they are commented out with <!-- and --> tags. So we don't have to dig through the history to find them. I believe that I removed 3 closed museums if I can remember right. You mentioned earlier about alphabetizing the icon key. I think this is a good idea, but I have them sort of grouped so similar ones are together. Is this okay with you? I would like to work together on these issues and find a solution that suits us both. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ben Boldt (talk • contribs) 17:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC) Air Force Space & Missile MuseumHi, thanks for your work on this article. I think the table format is bloated and looks sloppy. I think if you want to see more info about a museum, you should click on it and view the article and leave the list nice and concise. I would like to have the map at the top of each page to navigate between them too. We should brainstorm for a while and think about what needs to be done to make this better because I agree that it seems almost destroyed in its current state. We could work on some stuff in some sandboxes for a while and when we get things looking better we could ask around and see if people support our ideas. Because I have a feeling if we don't have some backup this guy is going to undo all the changes... I really think the lists should contain only the name and the icon to show what kind it is, plus a web link if there's no article, just like how it was before. I thought it was very easy to read. Thank you for your message, and for asking me if I had anny objections on renaming Wickham Park, Manchester, CT to Wickham Park (Manchester, Connecticut). I do not have any objections at all to the suggested change of name. This was my reasoning in separating the pages: There are many jail and prison museums that don't have "Old Jail" in their name. I think we agree that some list of these museums is useful on Wikipedia. But disambiguation pages are only for disambiguating names, as Wikipedia:Disambiguation repeatedly states. If there were some overriding, overwhelming reason to contradict the guideline, I would have no problem with that, but it seems to me that the separate list would serve the separate purpose of listing all the museums and doing it in different ways from the disambiguation page. For instance, we might make the "List of prison museums" a sortable table or organize it by geography. Both pages should link to each other, of course. I'm also concerned about the title "Old Jail Museum", which is fine for a disambiguation page but doesn't fit Wikipedia style for article pages. Therefore either readers won't be able to figure out the prison museum list by themselves and simply type it in the search function, or we need redirect pages. Redirect pages take up about as much space on Wikipedia's servers as a prison list page would. So what's the point in combining them? I see no confusion or extra work involved in having two pages. Ultimately, uniform style helps readers concentrate on what they're looking for rather than having to adjust to different list styles on the same subject. Noroton (talk) 13:47, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Eau Gallie Yacht ClubA tag has been placed on Eau Gallie Yacht Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article. If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Speedy deletion of Aquaria in VenezuelaA tag has been placed on Aquaria in Venezuela requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. The way you had it you would need to have both the "Note" section and the "References" section, such as seen here: Felice Beato. If instead you do as I have, and you can see an example here, 7 World Trade Center, or on one of the 25 GAs and 1 FA I've personal done here, you can combine them into one section. Combining them tends to make sense on small articles like this, or when the sources used are generally small (in the way of page numbers, thus less need for "Johnson, pp. 14-16" followed by "Ibid., p. 76" and the like). And generally since FA changed the criteria to require inline citations, the old way described on WP:CITE where there is a general references section is a bit depreciated. The more standard way can be seen at a current FA candidate, USS Constitution. There the ref section is as it is on the Freeport, and the notes are more of a explanatory type note and not references. Hopefully this helps, but let me know if you have questions or disagree. Thanks. Man, I wrote an article about Ivan Castro (soldier), the only blind officer serving in the Special Forces and it came out in "DYK". The big surprise is that it received 71,300 hits making it the #1 DYK article of all time. You would think that I would be happy with the DYK results, but you should see all the crap that went on in the articles talk page. It was unbelievable, made think about never nominating an article for DYK again. Well buddy take care and Semper Fi. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:46, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Scarykitty (talk) 19:13, 19 January 2009 (UTC) Yes, I think the "Museums in" category should be limited to currently operating museums. The category Defunct museums in the United States might later be split into Defunct museums in Virginia and the like, but until then, I think it's overcategorization to have the 3 categories (defunct, DC, Virginia). Nice job, thanks for starting it with link to the PDF NRHP application document for it and so on. I notice, though, that you apparently manually created the NRHP infobox on the page, probably without knowledge that there is a tool available to create NRHP infoboxes more easily and more completely. You might want to check it out, if you might create other articles on the List of RHPs in VA or otherwise. To use it, just visit http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php, and enter, say, "Plumb" and "VA". It generates output with a filled-out infobox ready to be cut and pasted into your new article. I just used it to update the Plumb House infobox to include latitude and longitude coordinates and to display a map. It comes in with a suitable footnote stating that the data was sourced from the National Register Information System (NRIS) in April 2008, which is the date of a big download by User:Elkman into his infobox tool system. That April 2008 date should not be changed to a current date unless of course you go to NRIS and get new data from there. You can add other info to the infobox, in which case it is usually appropriate to footnote the fields that you add to. Perhaps you may find the tool useful, and I hope you might consider developing more VA NRHP articles. Let me know if you have any questions. Anyhow, nice work on the Plumb article. :) doncram (talk) 16:57, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I had the first Chincoteague page before any others and worked with the town and the chamber in the late 90's. I was the only link from Wikipedia from quite a while that offered any information about the Island that I live at. If that is the new rules that sites that offer a link for income then please remove all the other links that recieve money from the businesses such as http://www.chincoteagueislandvacations.com/, http://www.chincoteague-island.net/ , http://www.chincoteaguewaves.com/ and www.Chincoteaguechamber.com. These companies charge for a link as I do. We offer good content that takes a lot of time and many of us do not have the luxury of retirement income from the government and have to make an honest living. I've tried to find your email address or real name to no avail to discuss this in a civil manor. If you keep removing my links then my last resort is to report you to the Wikipedia Gods and hope I find justice there. 911 at NORTHCOM - The Marines and the Babies Seven Years Ago
"This daycare had many children, including infants who were in heavy cribs. The daycare supervisor, looking at all the children they needed to evacuate, was in a panic over what they could do; there were many children, mostly toddlers, as well as the infants that would need to be taken out with the cribs. There was no time to try to bundle them into carriers and strollers. "Just then a young Marine came running into the center and asked what they needed. After hearing what the center director was trying to do, he ran back out into the hallway and disappeared. The director thought, 'well, there we are- on our own.' About 2 minutes later, that Marine returned with 40 others in tow. Each of them grabbed a crib with a child, and the rest started gathering up toddlers. The director and her staff then helped them take all the children out of the center and down toward the park near the Potomac and the Pentagon. "Once they got about 3/4 of a mile outside the building, the Marines stopped in the park, and then did a fabulous thing- they formed a circle with the cribs, which were quite sturdy and heavy, like the covered wagons in the West. Inside this circle of cribs, they put the toddlers, to keep them from wandering off. Outside this circle were the 40 Marines, forming a perimeter around the children and waiting for instructions. There they remained until the parents could be notified and come get their children." Wolf: The NORTHCOM chaplain then said- "I don't think any of us saw nor heard of this on any of the news stories of the day. It was an incredible story of our men there. I must say- there wasn't a dry eye in the room. The thought of those Marines and what they did and how fast they reacted- could we expect any less from them?? It was one of the most touching stories from the Pentagon I've EVER heard. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding Epps monoplanesHi FieldMarine and thanks for the article on Epps' first aircraft -- I was really interested to learn about this one; I hadn't heard of Epps before, and am always impressed by the pioneers who did it all from scratch "the hard way". I've moved this particular aircraft back to Epps 1907 Monoplane — as you might know, Epps actually built five completely unrelated monoplane designs between 1907 and 1924. While "1907 Monoplane" is no doubt a name applied retroactively to this particular design, builder-year-description is how aviation histories designate otherwise unnamed designs from this early period. In this specific case, "1907 Monoplane" is the name assigned in The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Directory of Airplanes: their Designers and Manufacturers; however, if you've got another source with a different name for this specific design, then we should include that in the article too. FOB DelaramHi FieldMarine. I was curious about the location of Delaram, not having much information about it on wiki, and thus specifically looked it up. I found a reference in the ISAF Mirror, sourced it, and thus changed the province. Unless you have better evidence than a specific WP:V verifiable source, that the province has been changed since April 2007, I'm going to change the province again. If you have such information, add it, AND RETAIN THE PREVIOUS FARAH NOTE!! It is really useful info to have that the district has been repeatedly shuffled between Farah and Nimruz. Thus people are not confused with conflicting references next time! Buckshot06 (talk) 07:18, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

There is no "agenda" here. There is a desire to purge all of the non-notable highway articles from the encyclopedia. If an article can't satisfy the General Notability Guideline, it should not have an article, period. If an article subject is not notable, that does not mean the county's roads, as a system, are not notable and worthy of a list article. That's why I've attempted to merge the recent articles, which is a valid outcome of the AfD process. Imzadi 1979 → 02:38, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Gettysburg is in Pennsylvania, not VirginiaWhich makes the title of File:Smedley D. Butler at Gettysburg, Virginia in 1922.jpg seem quite strange. You can ask at commons how to change this, but I think it's a simple notice in the file. As far as the notice immediately above, folks can get pretty picky these days. I assume that User:Field Marine is the owner of the copyright - if so just tell User:Logan that fact and request that he not make you jump through the ridiculous hoop he is proposing. This is complicated by the rule that editors are not supposed to reveal other editors real names. If I were you I would just upload everything using your user name. If you want attribution using your real name, then you'll have to release it publicly in any case. Maybe one OTRS would cover all of your uploads, but it could get very complicated. Another possibility of the problem above is that User:Logan thinks that the text of the marker is copyrighted. The answer to that is that the text was published in 1956 (on the lower right hand corner of the sign) without copyright notice - which means that it is in the public domain. Contact me please if anybody disputes that, and I'll get the exact references needed. All the best, Smallbones (talk) 16:43, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

You have reverted on the Melbourne Beach article three times today. The three-revert rule states, "An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Violations of the rule normally attract blocks of at least 24 hours. Any appearance of gaming the system by reverting a fourth time just outside the 24-hour slot is likely to be treated as a 3RR violation." Please keep this in mind. The proper means for dealing with this dispute is to discuss it on the article talk page. -- Donald Albury 18:17, 16 January 2012 (UTC) Florida cultural eventsHi FieldMarine :-) I now live in Saint Augustine, Florida, and plan to work with cultural heritage organizations and institutions in the area. I'm reaching out to you because you edit loads of articles about FL, museums, and historical places. Do you have any interest in doing either outreach to cultural heritage organizations in FL or on wiki assistance to new editors from this sector. In particular, I want to get the ball rolling planning Florida events related to Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 that will happen in September 2012. This years focus in the US is images of places on the National Register of Historic Places. While living in Kentucky, my husband and I took and uploaded images of places on the NRHP so I have a general idea of the process. I'm most interested in finding the gaps in coverage of historical sites in FL, and figuring out the best way to get these covered with local events. Maybe road trips to get some images in the outlying areas. We have a good amount of lead time so I think that this is doable. Additionally, I plan to work with the Saint Augustine 450 Commemoration (a four year initiative to celebrate the founding of Saint Augustine and settlement of FL through educational and legacy projects) to see how that we can add value to their current events, and possibly plan some joint initiatives. I'm also working with User:LoriLee, the U.S. Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation, to create an listing of cultural organizations and institutions in the United States, and WMF volunteers interested in working with these organizations. The beginning stages of it are at Wikipedia:GLAM/US/Connect. We also plan to have State specific pages that link to the Wikiproject for each state. Would love to hear your thoughts and idea, and to see if you have an interest in one or more of these projects? A tag has been placed on Arnold L. Punaro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Speedy deletion nomination of Arnold L. Punaro
A tag has been placed on Arnold L. Punaro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://punarogroup.com/about-the-punaro-group/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. RecklessSaw you weigh in at Sergeant Reckless. Be careful with this newbie, if she is who she says she is, we have a WP:COI and [{WP:OR]] problem. We need someone else to get that book and read it. Also, the article is already GA-class, so that means we need to stick with consistent formatting (which in this article used sfn formatting) and not go mucking up the WP:LEDE unless we change the body text in parallel. You've been around here a long time, so you know that if we have an article that's been all cleaned and passed GAN, we don't want to get it thrown to GAR territory by formatting inconsistencies and stuff like that. Invitation to join Women in Red
--Ipigott (talk) 14:43, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Invitation to WikiProject PortalsThe Portals WikiProject has been rebooted. You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it. There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals. Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore. It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them. The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond. A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete. We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years. Let's do this. See ya at the WikiProject! Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 10:20, 21 April 2018 (UTC) Proposal to delete all Portals - including the USMC portalFieldMarine, In case you haven't notice this on the USMC Portal page, the below notice appeared recently:

Invitation to attend a meetup in San DiegoYou are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia:Meetup/San Diego/June 2018 . RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 05:55, 21 May 2018 (UTC) Thank you very muchThe RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up. By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject. I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity. Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them. If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience. Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. A tag has been placed on Military Heritage & Aviation Museum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable. My pilot/stunt/producer beauHi, I’m Donna. GTA’s girlfriend. And Oh, BTW - you’ve mischaracterized him by referring to him by using his full name here. I posted it myself some time way back at all his Alma Mater pages (Missuslulu). So sorry I’m not up on your fanboy rules here at Wikipedia. But, everybody I know in the entertainment biz, all know Wikipedia was overrun by trolls and nobody considers Wikipedia itself to be a good source of any information about any subject. Wikipedia is largely fake news. Anyway, you evidently ordered me blocked for daring to try to chime in with and correct you. Not only is he a famous stuntman, but formerly with NASA as a space shuttle astronaut candidate, prior to following his Uber famous cousin RDJ, into show biz. Ever heard of a little show called Walker Texas Ranger? Yep. He also doubled Chuck Norris every episode. Well another little update, his press tour for Doolittle is doing fine and GTA recently produced me in a new project too. He’s also executive producer of Tomorrow’s World. I see little FieldMarine reached out to all his Wiki cyber friends to help quell his tantrum. With over a dozen reverts FieldMarine made (no blocking him for edit warring though) and his temper tantrum over my stunt/producer beau - must have been boiling over. Can you remove the article about me from Wikipedia. My page is also factually full of shit like most of my famous friends pages. (BTW I was on a little non noteworthy show called Baywatch and my ex is in a relatively unknown band called Motley Crue). On the other hand don’t even worry about it. Word is Wikipedia is financially insolvent and nearly defunct, so playtime in your parents basements will be over here soon enough. As I mentioned no one considers your Wikipedia playground, or any of you trolls, notable or noteworthy and really nobody ever did since its inception. Now try to fool around with RDJ, his fam and friends a bit more, & have fun doing so children!— Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.250.246.155 (talk) 01:22 January 11, 2020 (UTC) Nomination of Manny Abad for deletionA discussion is taking place as to whether the article Manny Abad is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted. ArbCom 2020 Elections voter messageEgyptian egg oven revertWhat was the point of this? The "article" is literally two sentence long. Merged to the parent article it helps to fledge out a still-very-short history section. Hell, you didn't even bother adding back the stuff that I put in the merged article, which means that its content in incubator (egg) is actually longer than the standalone article. If you're not going to put the effort into expanding it beyond the state you left it in an entire decade ago (if you are, then the new source I added has some useful content) then just let it go, rather than preventing the project being improved.
