I'm an inactive Wikipedian that is actively constructing some furry-related wiki (furry as in ファーリー・ファンダム) in zh language. I've noticed your discussion on the talk page of that article. I think I've got the conclusion of that discussion with the help on translation from my friend. Still, I may have some other questions related to this topic (either kemona or furry), most of which are related to the definition/scope of a certain term in Japanese.
Not sure whether you are still participating on this topic, but if the answer is yes, would you mind if I consult you about one or two those questions?

Tail furry Thanks for the prompt reply! Actually I was considering leveraging WP:VP but this topic seems to be too specific to be put up there and I'm not sure whether I can find any (relatively) expert editors there instead of messaging you both directly.
My current questions are specifically on the terminology. I understand it could be a rather subjective topic, so if you feel any controversy (e.g. to represent furry/kemoner), please answer them from your personal perspective. I'll also ask Nux-vomica 1007 if necessary. Please note that I've decided that characters with 獣耳 does not fall into category of furry characters. Also, please note that in asking the questions below, I'm not assuming you are necessarily kemoner / furry (you might be just doing research on the related paper and that's all).
Do you think (or do you think kemoners in Japan) identifies that kemona/kemoner (I assume both are valid in English) are actually "Japanese version of furry fandom", regardless of currently the definition of "furry" itself is vague. Or do you (or do you think kemoners in Japan) reject such idea?
Do you agree that some individuals of the ajin/demi-human(亜人), such as ミーノータウロス, 狼男, 人虎, etc. might also fall into the category of kemono/furry characters? (I assume some ajin examples that apparently does not fall into this category are 人魚, 龍人, etc.) Have you ever attempted to use the concept of 亜人 in order to describe any kemono?
Is there any dedicated terminology in Japanese describing human characters with animal ears or other animal parts such as tails/paws? I found 獣耳 but it looks "animal ears is a must-have". There is a term 獸娘/兽娘 in Chinese (TC/SC) describing females with aforementioned traits (animal parts that is not necessarily ears) but I assume that is not used in Japanese. (Or do you actually just use けもの in this case as in けものフレンズ?)
Is monster girl (モンスター娘) exactly the same as 亜人, apart from gender restriction? Currently this page gets redirected into 亜人 but I didn't get more context on that page.
If you have answered "no" to the the previous question, then: Do you agree that any character falling into category of "monster girl"(モンスター娘) is not kemono/furry characters? Or take a step back, do you think the topic on whether モンスター娘 belongs to kemono/furry character is the same controversial as the topic on 獣耳?
Does it happen to you that you may use "neko"（ネコ） when you are actually meaning 獣耳? I'm asking because it looks in Europe / North America, sometimes people (mis-)uses neko to indicate 獣耳.
Sorry if this list looks intimidating. Before writing down this list, I was in a little hope of "seeking for some consensus on the these questions in Japanese-language community". Now it looks more like a personal survey that might not be following some scientific research method. Anyway, I was just seeking for "what some of the individuals in the community (especially, kemoners/furries) may think", so that I can have more context when performing 独自研究 on some zh furry-related wiki outside Wikipedia.

CXuesong Hello. There were more questions from you than I expected, so I'll answer them bit by bit.
1. I don't think it is well known in Japan that there is such a thing as "furry fandom". Wikipedia had an early article on the term "furry fandom" in its English version, and a complete set of verifiable literature. In contrast, I feel that although the term "kemoner" is considered to have been widely known in Japan, it is only recently that the literature has become available to reinforce it. I figured that what is called "Furry Fandom" would be "Kemoner" in Japan, but in the discussion in the notes, there was a suggestion that it should be a separate article since it originated separately, so it should be a separate article now.
2. I believe that if a character has animal or plant elements that are not found in humans, they is probably a kemono, but different people have different ideas about this, and there seems to be no progress in research on this. For example, on Pixiv, there are people who recognize Pokémon as animals, even if they are plant Pokémon[3]. There is also an article on the Pixiv Encyclopedia, which has no verifiable source, but is probably written in detail by someone in the community[4].
3. I often see 「獣人」(beastmen). I also see 「ケモ度が高い/低い」(highly/lowly animalistic).
4. Wikipedia requires verifiable sources, so the current situation may be unsatisfactory from a detailed point of view. We will have to wait for someone who knows a lot about "kemono" to write a lot of papers about them.

5. Some people perceive a "monster girl" as a "kemono" if she has biological characteristics that are not found in humans. Others think otherwise. However, I do not consider something with mechanical features like androids to be "kemono". I think this is also perceived differently by different people. Just as the aforementioned "mechanical Pokémon" in "Pokémon" are ambiguous as to whether they are "kemono" or not. Words change over time, so characters that are considered "kemono" now may not be so as definitions are established.
6. In Japan, for some reason, there is a term 「猫耳」(nekomimi) for characters with cat ears. The simple katakana word "neko" alone refers to the passive female side in a lesbian couple. (The opposite of "neko" is "tachi.")

Makes sense to me. I've gone through Talk:ファーリー・ファンダム earlier and I thought the conclusion reached on that page is "though there is no clear boundary between kemona and furry fandom, they are not the same concept" and thus that page got splitted and Japanese-specific part of the content was moved to ケモナー. I've actually mentioned this part on my wiki (in Chinese)! I suppose you might be just waiting for some verifiable citation source claiming that "kemoner is the furry fandom".
Then it looks "kemono" is in a very similar situation to "furry character": their definition is controversial. We are still trying to explore a better definition on this! Actually I just want to confirm whether 亜人 is just a different way to describe a category of characters and does not have to be or have to not to be all kemono. That is, some 亜人 are kemono, while the others not.
And currently we've decided that "anthropomorphism" is the core of being a furry character (or perhaps kemono, too). (This is inevitably WP:OR.)
獣人(beastmen) rings a bell to me. It looks to me that ケモ度が高い may tend to be like some standard anthro furry character (perhaps 獣人 itself), while ケモ度が低い(lowly animalistic) might be just some human with animal ears/tails and this could be more controversial to be considered as kemono.
Thus, non-human characters in けものフレンズ could just be described as "lowly animalistic beastmen", I guess? Btw, does kemoner tend to think these characters as "kemono"? At least, most of furries in China does not think so.

I have the same feeling on the ambiguity of kemono / furry character itself over time. Now from your reply, it looks to me that モンスター娘 has a pretty much similar definition to 亜人. No wonder there is a redirect now!
