Thanks for the fix of the giant voting map - it was as easy as that! I copied the image from the German Wikipedia (where the informations and discussions are much more exhaustive, by the way) - "mini" is an English word, but no keyword in the template...

Furthermore, do you have material or an idea to rearrange the present information in order to fix the neutrality issue? Even if only partly justified, it can destroy the last chances to get the important news accepted for the start page. (But I have to finish for tonight.) Punctuation edit

Well, I stand corrected! I apologize for undoing your edit, though I must say that stylistically the unpunctuated version seems preferable to me; the style guide says we should parse the "Texas" as a parenthetical, but it certainly isn't an appositive ("Texas" is not an alternative name for "Castroville"), and I would think that for it to be some other kind of parenthetical it would need a preposition or something (e.g. "Castroville, located in south Texas, ..."). I was parsing "Castroville, Texas" as a single (idiomatically structured) noun phrase, after which punctuation of course would not be needed there. Anyway! I find this sort of thing interesting. But, though I think it reads more smoothly without the second comma, I support sticking to an established style guide, and I again apologize for incorrectly "correcting" you. Hey, I noticed you restored the date of birth and death, but it doesn't look like you added a citation to show which reliable source these came from. I specifically removed them in the preceding edit because I couldn't find a source which gave a birth year (especially given there are conflicting ages in the death sources), let alone a date. Changing things like Tarata Province to Province of Tarata

I like your energy, but when you make changes like the above, you're making the link target less obvious, since "Province of Tarata" looks like it's pointing to the town or city of Tarata, not the province. There's a reason why the article itself is named "Tarata Province" and not "Province of Tarata." We tend to refer to place names in English (at least, American English does) in the shortest reasonable way, which here would be "Tarata Province," not "Province of Tarata." We usually only switch the order around if we're being poetic, which this is not. I went ahead and looked at the move discussion, and I'm glad I did, but I still stand by my statement above. I'm fine with removing "province" from the first mention in the article, but your changes below still need changed back per the above, I say. My theory on why you get more hits for "province of Tarata" than for "Tarata province" is because these names are from Spanish, and in Spanish the construction "Tarata province" doesn't work grammatically, which is why they must say "province of Tarata." Since English has both options, the person putting into English must have wanted to follow the Spanish, causing a less natural English construction (remember, in Spanish, "province of Tarata" is the most natural construction and virtually the only one). I say we should not be bound by the Spanish construction but instead follow what is most natural in each language.

First of all, thanks for the civil tone you've adopted in these messages and for being fine with removing "province" from the first mention in the article – "XXX Province is a province..." is really jarring. And yes, that editing spree was the result of the move discussion the other week, which argued that "Province" wasn't an integral part of the name, unlike (eg) "Orange County". In any case, I don't plan to engage in an edit war over whatever changes you make (life's too short). What I'm not sure about is that preferring "province of Tarata" over "Tarata Province" is influence from Spanish: "province of Manitoba" sounds a lot more natural than "Manitoba Province", as does "state of Arizona" over "Arizona State" (when not talking about the university, of course). Would it have helped if I had linked them as (eg) "province of Tarata" instead, to avoid confusion with the similarly named cities? Moscow Mule (talk) 16:27, 4 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

With specific reference to those "Boundaries" sections listing adjacent jurisdictions, I think my solution on (eg) Abancay province works fine, but I wouldn't object to "... Aymaraes, Antabamba and Grau provinces" as an alternative solution in those instances, for brevity's sake. Anything to get rid of the rather dizzying repetiton of seven or eight capitalized "Provinces". Another thing I was keeping an eye out for – and if you're going to go through them, perhaps remain alert to as well – was the use of the article before the name: I can't see any justification for saying "the Antabamba province". I wonder if it would be beneficial to write the district number as just a number, rather than spelling it out in words. I noticed that the infobox at the bottom, while it currently has a lot of redlinks, would lead to creation of articles like "Thirty-second federal electoral district" which seems a bit long. For comparison, the articles about American districts write it as a number, such as California's 4th congressional district or California's 53rd congressional district (instead of "fourth" or "fifty-third").

@Numbermaniac: You're probably right: it's unwieldy, but that's how they were placed when I started working on them (to say nothing of the incoming links looking for the version with the – rather obsolete – Roman numerals). EdoMex is the worst case, of course, with 40, but most of the others don't get into double digits. Is that just a comment, or do you feel like undertaking a mass (±200) move? I was gonna say moving that many articles looks like a lot of work and I don't think I have the tools to do it without spending a lot of time going through them manually - but it seems you've gone ahead and done them all.
