Normally, it does something like Typhoon (JMA), but it doesn't seem like that's the case. OhHaiMark (talk) 16:56, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Editors on the Commons have received communication from the National Weather Service that the Template:PD-NWS, which is often used to upload weather-related images, is incorrect. There will be a discussion starting on the Commons Copyright Noticeboard within the next few days to determine how to manage this issue. Under the current PD-NWS copyright template, images on any NWS webpage was considered to be in the public domain unless it had a direct copyright symbol and/or copyright watermark. One National Weather Service office has confirmed this is not the case. For the next few days, it may be best to not upload any image from an NWS webpage that was not made or taken directly by the National Weather Service themselves. Once the Commons determine how to move forward, editors will recent a new alert. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:41, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

PD-NWS Violations Update #2 (Key To Read Third Section)I am providing members of the WikiProject of Weather along with users who frequently edit weather-related articles an new update (2nd update) to the discussions regarding the PD-NWS image copyright template. On the Commons, an RFC discussion is taking place to figure out how to manage the template. No "formal" administrative-style rules have occurred, so nothing has changed. That is not a surprise as the RFC is still ongoing. What is new?
How to deal with new photos? Given all of this, you might be wondering how the heck you use weather photos while creating articles? Well, here is what you can do!
What about third-party photos? In the case of third-party photos...i.e. ones not taken by the National Weather Service themselves...there is an option which was discussed and confirmed to be valid from an English Wikipedia Administrator.
Update Closing Hopefully all of that information kept you informed on the Commons copyright discussion process and how you can still create the best articles possible! If you have a question about something mentioned above, reply back and I will do my best to answer it! Also, ping me in the process to ensure I see it! Have a good day! SharpieHello Hurricanehink! I have to admit I don't know exactly what I'm doing as I have only started adding to wikipedia. I have a weird love for sharpies and noticed that the page didn't talk about specific colors or where they come from (certain colors are discontinued or only come in certain packs). I don't want to be a bother but I added a bunch to this page and it was reverted by another user. At first glance they hadn't said anything, just simply reverted my input. I had to ask them why and they gave me attitude and really no explanation for the revert. So I added my information again....to have the same user revert my stuff again. I don't understand because I sourced my work. Once looking at this user's talk page I realized he does this to many people, on many different subjects. He thinks he's wikipedia king, the end all be all if you will. Many people on the page are asking for the information I provided, I truly don't get if this is my fault or the user who feels they would like to revert anything added by another person. I don't know if I should open a dispute resolution or ask for a protection for my items, as stated previously I don't completely understand how all of this works. Thank you in advance for all that you do. Thegoldengen (talk) 04:24, 14 October 2024 (UTC) The Signpost: 19 October 2024

I was doing some research on 1988's Hurricane Kristy, a storm which appears to have caused significant deadly flooding and was building a draft article in my sandbox. In 2014, @Cyclonebiskit made an edit claiming 21 direct deaths had been due to the hurricane (which was the primary reason I decided to look into making an article for it), but the source he provided had no direct link, and I can't find the article he referenced anywhere online or in newspaper archives. The reason I'm coming to you is because Cyclonebiskit appears to have gone inactive for almost a year now, so I can't ask him to provide the source for me, and I wanted a more experienced editor to look for the source for a quick couple minutes in case I missed something. If you can find it anywhere, let me know. If not I plan to remove the source and delete the draft, as I feel uneasy about the potentially inaccurate death toll having gone unnoticed for over 10 years now. Many years ago, you offered some feedback at an ultimately unsuccessful FLC that I posted. Over the last few months, I've been fixing up the timeline of the 2004 Pacific hurricane season, and I recently re-nominated it for the bronze star. Totally up to you, but considering your involvement in the previous FLC, I'd appreciate if you had any feedback for round 2. As an aside, I also rewrote this old article of mine, that I wish to make a GA. Does it seem worthy, or is more needed? Is there a way to nominate it? Appealing my ban?Hi Hink, hope you're doing well. After a long period of inactivity (real life got in the way), I've gotten more active again, and I was thinking of appealing my 2021 projectspace ban (oof, the discussion makes me cringe). I appealed in June 2022, which failed because I had continued some of the same editing that led to the ban. Over the past couple of months, I've participated a lot in RMs, a topic that I had once had problems in, with rationales supporting policy, and in almost all cases, the discussions have been closed in my favor. This is in contrast to shortly before my previous appeal, in which a CSD criterion that I proposed had zero supports. Is there any advice or guidance that you could give me before I officially appeal the ban, and if/when I appeal, would you support it? 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 12:09, 12 December 2024 (UTC) The Signpost: 12 December 2024

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round. The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). HeyHow have things been going for you? I'm getting ready to turn in my two-week notice at my retail job since I just accepted an offer for a job with the state where I can finally put my degree to use. Noah, BSBATalk 22:02, 21 January 2025 (UTC) This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 29 March 2025. Wehwalt (talk) 20:07, 23 January 2025 (UTC) Tornadoes in OklahomaHi again! I finally got around to Tornadoes in Oklahoma, seeing as nobody else wanted to do it and the only other draft was about a month stale. What do you think about the format? Making these lists, I really think we've been doing it wrong by trying to include every tornado and tornado event in a bulleted list, which is visually unappealing and doesn't have sortable data. What I've done is make a sortable list of F/EF3+ tornadoes, by date (pre-1925 (currently the only one I have done), 1925-1950, 1951-1975, 1976-2000, 2001-2007, 2007-2025), and under that time-frame's respective tornado list will be blurbs of some of the events from that time period. I think the reason people haven't been getting around to these lists is because they think every tornado in that state's history needs to be included, something which I think is rightfully scary but shouldn't be the case. I've also added an infobox, just because it looks better that way. Thanks! :) — EF5 17:11, 24 January 2025 (UTC) |
