Weeds / Weed (disambiguation)

Hi, I took a quick look at how many of the options on the dab page could actually appear in plural, and it is basically just the unwanted plant. Furthermore, a look here should convince you that almost all pages that link to Weeds actually mean to link to Weeds (TV Series), with the exception of a couple, which I will fix. eae 06:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1. Redirecting Weeds to Weeds (TV series) contradicts our naming conventions (because this renders the parenthetical disambiguation unnecessary). The correct course of action (assuming that Weeds should be used for this purpose) is to move the actual article to that title.

2. Internal links are not the only consideration. Links to Weeds intended for Weed are relatively unlikely to exist and easy to repair, but it's likely that many readers (particularly those unfamiliar with our naming conventions) will attempt to reach the Weed article by typing "Weeds" into the search box (because plural references to the plants are extremely common). —David Levy 07:18, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Eaefremov, thank you for your message. I apologize if my warning you and not warning ILike2BeAnonymous (talk · contribs) appeared to be one-sided; it was not intended to be that way. ILike2BeAnonymous already had been issued a WP:3RR warning earlier (diff), so reminding him of the rule would have been redundant and unnecessary. Had he continued to revert, he would have been blocked from editing with a quickness. I don't doubt that you were making a good-faith effort to improve the article, but revert-warning over any change is not the way to do it. Constructive discussion on the talk page is best. I Love Huckabees

I meant to say that reference #1 is not a blog, not reference #3.

I said that the film is *usually* pronounced I Heart Huckabees, implying that is is sometimes pronounced I Love Huckabees.

You asked for references, to show that it is sometime pronounced I Love Hucakbees all you have to do is a web serach for "I Love Huckabees" and you will find many hits showing that indeed it is sometimes pronounced this way. Any of those web hits suffice, blogs or not, as all I am trying to demonstrate is that some people pronounce it differently, and a blog is adequate fo rthis purpose.

I pronounce it I Love Huckabees, my friends pronounce it I Love Huckabees, why is that so difficult for you to accept?

1. Blogs don't suffice for anything on Wikipedia. They're not adequate for any purpose here.
2. I didn't erase the first reference, which isn't a blog, I erased the two that are blogs. You should really look at the diff of an edit before using the "undo" function.

blogs as reliable sources

I replaced the link to Wired's blog with updates from the Hans Reiser trial, which is perfectly acceptable according to WP:V "Blogs" in this context refers to personal and group blogs. Some newspapers host interactive columns that they call blogs, and these may be acceptable as sources so long as the writers are professionals and the blog is subject to the newspaper's full editorial control. Where a news organization publishes the opinions of a professional but claims no responsibility for the opinions, the writer of the cited piece should be attributed (e.g. "Jane Smith has suggested..."). Mindjet

{{helpme}} Is it possible to retrieve the last version of a page that was deleted? The page in question was Mindjet, which was deleted for allegedly not asserting its notability, which is a fair concern except that apparently nobody monitors that page besides me, and I was on vacation when the deletion went through. MindManager, the company's primary product, was similarly nominated but withstood the deletion attempt because someone added an award it won; I believe that same award makes Mindjet notable, as well as a number of other assertions of notability I'd like to add, but first I'd like to retrieve the contents of the page as it was before deletion. Help with The Wailers

"The Wailers" accurately describes only the original band (and the much lesser-known Tacoma band who can stay at The Wailers (rock band)). I think it's perfectly OK as it is. The name really doesn't matter; for example, consider a featured article, like Genesis (band). Convention is to have such disambigs where necessary; it is reasonably likely that, one day, there will be other entities called "The Wailers" too, and hence we'd have to re-shuffle things again.

If you wish to appeal to move it, then you could do so by starting a discussion on Talk:The Wailers, and then posting a note on Talk:The Wailers (reggae band), Talk:The Wailers (rock band) and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music, and see what others think (ie asking them to please look in on the discussion, with a link to Talk:The Wailers#Whatever-you-call-the-section).

Here's the thing - that article is no longer just about surnames. Don Juan DeMarco is a film (it has a character with that surname, but the article linked to is about the film, not the character). • Further you seem to have confused 'vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version' with regular vocals. This is in error. Vocal samples in dub re-mixes are single words or phrases heavily effected and used as sound effects, rather than full verses of lyrics. The MC usually performs live, over instrumental records. I'm puzzled by your comment, "did this actually save money, or did it just allow that SS personnel to be given other assignments elsewhere?" I am unable to see the distinction your question implies. If you have access to slave labor, by definition, you're saving money because you're getting free labor and don't have to hire people for that work. Your paid staff can then be assigned elsewhere.

The official website of the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial states in the very first sentence after the headline (in the reference at the end of the second sentence you questioned), "This so-called 'prisoner self-administration' allowed savings in the number of supervising staff and prevented solidarity developing among the prisoners." Are you looking for Nazi financial ledger sheets documenting the savings?

I am presuming that you also made the edits to the German nouns, since the time stamp was so close. Regarding capitalization, my understanding is that things have to make sense to the English readers who frequent here. Therefore, German nouns, unless they are proper nouns, would drop their initial caps in English texts. By the same token, German adjectives that come from proper nouns, but as adjectives in German, do not carry an initial cap, upon translation to English, would acquire an initial cap. Removal of red-linked categories

G'day Eafremov, you recently removed a number of red-linked categories for orders and decorations on the Haile Selassie I article. It is widespread practice on Wikipedia to categorise people into all of the orders and decorations that they have received, however categories have not always been created for this. Maintaining and improving the category schema for orders, decorations and medals is a significant part of my Wikipedia editing. If you encounter further biographical articles with red-linked orders, decorations or medals, rather than removing them can you drop me a message on my talk page and I will review them and raise new categories where appropriate. Not sure what "chuffed" means but cheers :) As for the edits I made, I approached this from the point of view that the categories list on Haile Selassie I is an unmitigated disaster, and while it may be common practice to add every category for every honor received by a person, that practice clearly doesn't take into account outliers such as Haile Selassie I. With the skin I use, the cat list takes up about 75% of the screen space when I'm looking at the top of the article. I agree that it's useful for H.I.M. to appear on the category page itself, so that someone can browse TO Haile Selassie I from elsewhere on WP, but I posit that it is spectacularly useLESS to see a category for every honor he ever received at the top of article, especially given that there is a complete list of honors in the body. I am not sure what the best solution is, but I guess I agree that ugly is better than inconsistent. EAE (Holla!) 06:21, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Chuffed' could be described as 'pleased' or 'very pleased'. One might be chuffed to be awarded a barnstar, but if someone was awarded something significant (eg a major national research grant, etc), a stronger term would probably be required to describe their response. Re, the article at hand, I can definitely see how it would be annoying to open an article and have the bulk of the screen taken up with categories. I uses top categories on Commons (where I also do a lot of categorisation work) but leave them at the bottom on Wikipedia. It highlights my concern with the technical operation of categories in Wikipedia. I think that what may be useful is a system which allows categories to be grouped in collapsible structures with some form of standardised grouping applicable to different categories of articles, eg biographies might have groups for bio data categories, regional categories, occupational categories, award categories, etc. In the meantime, there is no easy answer. Thanks for uploading File:Togolese passport.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

• make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
• Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.

Red Link Recovery

Hello. As a Russian-speaking WikiGnome, I'd like to solicit your help in testing a new tool. For a few years now, the Red Link Recovery Project has been using the Red Link Recovery Live tool to track down and fix unnecessarily red links in articles. Recently, the tool has been expanded to work on non-English Wikipedias. A small set of suggested fixes for red-links on the Russian-language Wikipedia have been prepared and I'm hoping to interest some Russian-language speakers (such as yourself) to work through them.

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed.
