He may be from New Zealand but the French Wikipedia has an article on him too! - tholly --Talk-- 14:10, 25 June 2010 (UTC) G'day Tholly, my removal of the French link to Mark Donaldson was entirely appropriate. There are two Mark Donaldson's. Mark Donaldson, VC is the subject of articles on the en: no: and simple: Wikipedias. Mark Donaldson, NZ All Black player is the subject of the fr: article and, now that I have created it, an en: article. The en:Mark Donaldson, VC page was subjected to continual inappropriate linking to the French page on the NZ rugby player. To fix this I have done a bunch of disambiguation work including raising the en:Mark Donaldson (rugby player) page, moving the French page to fr:Mark Donaldson (jeuer de rugby), linking fr:Mark Donaldson (jeuer de rugby) to en:Mark Donaldson (rugby player), removing fr:Mark Donaldson (jeuer de rugby) links to fr:Mark Donaldson and simple:Mark Donaldson and removing links on no:Mark Donaldson and simple:Mark Donaldson to fr:Mark Donaldson (jeuer de rugby). This ensures that each site only links to the appropriate corresponding individual. I have also provided a hat link on en:Mark Donaldson to en:Mark Donaldson (rugby player). If you wish to correspond further, my primary page and talk page are on the English wikipedia (see links in my following signature). Cheers AusTerrapin (talk) 15:44, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

Scout and Guide awardsIf you look in Category:Scout and Guide awards, you will see that we now have two categories for holders of the Silver Wolf, after you created one for B-P. I think I prefer your name, Recipients of the Silver Wolf Award, to the older name, Silver Wolf awardees, which has two entries. The naming in general is pretty chaotic and many of these categories are not populated by articles that should be there. I think we need to take this to the Scouting Project, to look at the issue of all similar categories, but I am too exhausted to do that tonight. --Bduke (Discussion) 11:50, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
[edit] File:CdnForcesDecoration+3rosettes.PNGG'day Ctjj, you recently added File:CdnForcesDecoration+3rosettes.PNG to several images. Can you please confirm that the rosettes actually take up the full height of the ribbon in reality? This would be unusual, ribbon emblems usually only occupy 2/3 to 4/5 of the vertical height of the ribbon. Assuming that the rosettes are not supposed to occupy the full height of the ribbon, can you please update your image with better proportioned rosettes? Also, as a public domain image, the file would be better loaded to Wikimedia Commons and categorised as Ribbon bars of Canada so that it is grouped with other Canadian ribbons and is more easily found by others seeking ribbon images for their articles. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 20:54, 6 September 2010 (UTC) Good evening! I hope that you are doing well. Your statement about the rosettes of the Canadian Forces decoration actually makes sence. I really just took an image of the rosette and added it on an image of the CD ribbon, and it seemed to fit. After looking closely to the following picture: http://www.cadets.ca/assets/0/121/423/1087/2343/10612/10752/27ee2c1b-fd8f-4275-86f4-5f021d2da7c0.jpg, I have noticed that the rosettes that I have used would be probably 2 milimetres too large. When I will have the time, I could correct the problem. Good day to you. Ctjj.stevenson (talk) 22:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC) UmbertoCiao! I hope you do not mind me asking; I have exhausted all avenues I can think of. I simply want to move a deceased friend and colleague's entry under Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) to the Commanders (CBE) list. (It's an authoritative move; I'll be providing the verification page from the Australian Govt awards website.) All I can see is this rather cryptic comment at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Commanders_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire&action=edit: "To list a page in this category, do not edit this category page. Instead, edit the page you want to list..." but I don't know how to get hold of the pages involved via the Edit tab. I hope you will be able to help. Again my apologies if I am intruding. Thank you, MilborneOne -- including for removing my e-mail address; I realised my error just as I was heading out in a taxi! Do I reply to you via "Edit" in User talk:AusTerrapin? Or should I do it another way? I'm very green with this side of Wikipedia. I did visit your page and saw that you are ex-RAF, with an LSGCM. I'm ex-RAAF -- and your interests do, er, overlap somewhat. :-) The page which lists my old friend, John Paul Wild, is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paul_Wild. The page that lists him incorrectly as OBE is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Officers_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire&from=W -- hmm, I have looked at it and that should now be "listed": he has disappeared from there to the Commanders page (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Commanders_of_the_Order_of_the_British_Empire&from=W). I wonder if this move between pages will be permanent? I guess it must have happened when I changed one of the category references in his Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paul_Wild) to "Commander" from "Officer". Ah! That's what is meant by "you have to change the original article"! [Sound of many pennies dropping]. You mentioned "It would help if you could provide a reference or citation for the promotion from officer to commander". The authoritative page is the Australian Govt honours and awards page: http://www.itsanhonour.gov.au/honours/honour_roll/search.cfm?aus_award_id=1064489&search_type=simple&showInd=true and I have cited it. Btw, the placement on the wrong page was a typo, i.e. he was never an OBE. Thanks indeed for your friendly assistance as I tentatively make my way! My next task is to master the coding citations in the Wikipedia style; it will come (I have started to study the appropriate Help pages). I have an article ready about Paul Wild's life achievements, based on a seminar that we held at the Australian Academy of Science. SCHolar44 (talk) 08:53, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

It was a few years ago so maybe you won't remember. Anyway I've got some family folklore I want to clear up and was thinking maybe you might have some insight on it. My father, Edwin Doss, took his fighter squadron from San Francisco to Australia a few weeks after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. The story he told me was that soon after arriving in Australia he dove his fighter plane into the stadium before the horse race (which I believe was the Melbourne Cup). He recalled looking up at the people in the stadium. He got into trouble of course and explained that he had done it because the Japanese invasion was imminent and it was no time to have a horse race. Also, he talked of several race horses dying during the incident. Now, war fighters return from war with lots of stories but my father never ever played things up like that. That being said, I cannot find any reference to anything like this event ever happening. It might be a tall tale but if it is, it's the only tall tale my father ever told. Know anything about this incident? As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement. The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also. The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now. For the Milhist co-ordinators. RMIT says hullo to MonashI have been commenting upon the question of ‘level’ on the ODM Message board and noticed (04/06/10) Military awards and decorations of the United Kingdom. I did not see it at the time and would have argued that ‘Awards and decorations of the British military’ is grammatically different from ‘Military Awards and decorations of the British’. The Wikipedia article ‘Military orders, awards and decorations’ is piffle. I am dropping you this note since I noted you went to Monash. In the late 1970s I was a RMIT delegate for a number of years to the ‘ten days that shook the world’ Australian Union of Students Annual Conferences held at Monash which I thoroughly enjoyed. In 1980, I wrote an article on recent GC awards in the RMIT student magazine Jargon. Sadly, the section on GC awards to civilians is still up to date. Best wishes from the Sunshine Coast.
