Happy New Year, Alex! Some celestial fireworks to herald another year of progress for mankind and Wikipedia. All the very best , Alex,
2019--Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:02, 1 January 2019 (UTC) Please check out "Happy" once more, for a smile, and sharing (a Nobel Peace Prize), and resolutions. I wanted that for 1 January, but then wasn't sad about having our music pictured instead. Not too late for resolutions, New Year or not. DYK that he probably kept me on Wikipedia, back in 2012? By the line (which brought him to my attention, and earned the first precious in br'erly style) that I added to my editnotice, in fond memory? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:07, 12 January 2019 (UTC) He wrote the ultimate guide to arbitration, but what do I tell you ;) - I put on my talk what made me stay in 2012, mostly as a reminder to self. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:09, 10 February 2019 (UTC) I'll spell it out for wherever you go: "go on with life, have a laugh, don't get too upset over this". Invitation to Organize Wiki Loves Love 2019Wiki Loves Love (WLL) is an International photography competition of Wikimedia Commons to subject love testimonials happening in the month of February 2019. The primary goal of the competition is to document love testimonials through human cultural diversity such as monuments, ceremonies, snapshot of tender gesture, and miscellaneous objects used as symbol of love; to illustrate articles in the worldwide free encyclopedia Wikipedia, and other Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) projects. February is around the corner and Wiki Loves Love team invites you to organize and promote WLL19 in your country and join hands with us to celebrate love and document it on Wikimedia Commons. The theme of 2019 is Festivals, ceremonies and celebrations of love. To organize Wiki Loves Love in your region, sign up at WLL Organizers page. You can also simply support and spread love by helping us translate the commons page in your local language which is open for translation. The contest starts runs from 1-28 February 2019. Independent from if there is a local contest organised in your country, you can help by making the photo contest Wiki Loves Love more accessible and available to more people in the world by translating the upload wizard, templates and pages to your local language. See for an overview of templates/pages to be translated at our Translations page. Imagine...The sum of all love! --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:33, 6 January 2019 (UTC) Seran KimHi Alex Shih, I created Seran Kim as part of the Wikipedia Asian month. Notice of Arbcom StatementAlex, the Arbitration Committee has made a statement regarding your resignation from the committee last year. It can be seen at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Alex Shih: Statement from the Arbitration Committee WormTT(talk) 19:14, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
Conflicting storiesI'd like to address a discrepancy between the reasons you gave in your steward application for leaving the Arbitration Committee, and the description of your departure provided by the Committee itself. As a steward candidate, you wrote of your departure: "It comes down down (sic) to personal reasons and incompatibility with the bureaucratic structure. When I ran for the committee, I did mention that if I cannot initiate some sort of reform, there would be no point to stay." In other words, you portrayed yourself as a frustrated reformer who was stifled by an external bureaucracy. In contrast, the Arbitration Committee released an effectively unanimous statement that you resigned after being confronted over multiple breaches of the checkuser policy and mishandling of confidential information with which you were entrusted by virtue of your position of authority. I understand that you've given up checkuser and oversight privileges, and withdrawn from the steward election. I'm not concerned about those things. Your administrative rights, and your participation in this project, are ultimately contingent upon the trust and confidence of the community. As an external observer, it appears to me that you gave a highly misleading answer to an important question, in the context of your pursuit of a position of trust and authority. Is my perception incorrect? MastCell Talk 01:41, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Request for arbitrationYou are involved in a recently filed request for arbitration. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Alex_Shih and, if you wish to do so, enter your statement and any other material you wish to submit to the Arbitration Committee. As threaded discussion is not permitted on most arbitration pages, please ensure that you make all comments in your own section only. Additionally, the guide to arbitration and the Arbitration Committee's procedures may be of use. Thanks, GoldenRing (talk) 21:42, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
LTA troll back, now with an accountHey, you blocked 125.214.51.223 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) for a year back in October. Apparently the same person created an account, Arina56 (talk · contribs), and sent the same spam message to several dozen more users. Arbitration Committee MotionHi Alex Shih, a motion has been proposed which relates to you at the current Arbitration Request. For The Arbitration Committee --Cameron11598 (Talk) 03:41, 11 February 2019 (UTC) Happy BirthdayArbitration motion regarding Alex ShihThe "Alex Shih" request for arbitration is accepted. Given that Alex Shih (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has retired from the English Wikipedia, this case will be opened but suspended for a duration not to exceed one year, during which time Alex Shih will be temporarily desysopped. If Alex Shih should return to active editing on the English Wikipedia during this time and request that this case be resumed, the Arbitration Committee shall unsuspend the case by motion and proceed through the normal arbitration process. Such a request may be made by email to arbcom-enwikimedia.org or at the Clerks' noticeboard. If such a request is not made within one year of the "Alex Shih" case being opened and suspended, this case shall be automatically closed, and Alex Shih shall remain desysopped. Thank youWhile I don't edit Wikipedia as frequently, I happened across your retirement, and I wanted thank you for your work in making this place more welcoming. Without people like you, editing this encyclopedia seems quite bleak. Enjoy the retirement. menaechmi (talk) 19:43, 25 July 2019 (UTC) DisappointedI'm not a member of Wikipediocracy, but I drop by once in a blue moon, just to search for my username, to see whether I've stirred up any off-wiki shit-talking. Fortunately, I've never been the target of any such commentary, until now, with you. You, of all people? Really? I can't imagine how many people I've pissed off in my tenure, but you're the one to shit talk me off-wiki? A literal fucking arb? And, for all of my offenses, for endorsing the Board's request for improved civility (something you yourself request in your own editnotice)? I probably play a bit looser with civility than most admins, so it's amazing to me that I would get criticized the one time I advocate for increased civility. I thought we were friends on-wiki, with the only point of disagreement that I can recall being your attempt at sinking TonyBallioni's CU bid. Are you really mad about that, even now? I have to say, I'm not mad, just disappointed. I've always been open to direct criticism, and am usually very willing to admit when I may be wrong. I get that you're "retired", but if you're apparently still so invested in the project to follow our current events and articulate your opinions in a forum, I would think you'd at least be willing to express your disapproval to me directly. I suppose you are not the honorable person the community thought you were when you were elected to Arbcom. Perhaps that's why you were booted. Oh well. You're always welcome at my talk page, if you ever actually want to communicate like an adult. Regards, ~Swarm~ {sting} 06:13, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Arbitration noticeboardI have raised concerns over your continued editing on this project at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee/Noticeboard#Alex Shih is not retired and not here.
A quiet wordHi Alex Shih, I don’t think we know each other very well: I can’t recall any specific interactions between us, though I know we’ve been in the same threads here and there recently. I’ve recently been involved in a discussion where I felt an editor was being treated unfairly and there was some that felt I was either not being impartial with my contributions and that I may have been generating more heat than light. Now I know that when you are speaking out against what you see as an unfairness, injustice, abuse of process, etc., it can be difficult not to use strong language (and certainly strong language is often required to attempt to persuade others to your point of view). However we need to be careful in drawing a line between strong language and abrasive language (and hopefully not crossing it). Now, from all appearances, you’ve certainly had a bit of a rough year on the project and I’m sure that has led to some frustration. Some of this frustration appears to be coming across in your postings. I’ve found that stepping away (at least from that space) for a few days allowed me to gain valuable perspective on how my words were being perceived and the things that others were saying to me. I’ve also found that reconnecting to the project in the mainspace after giving up the admin tools helped me to remember what we’re all here for. Now, I don’t subscribe to the belief that project space discussions like those you have been involved in don’t contribute to building the encyclopedia. Allowing perceived unfairness, injustice, abuse of process, etc. to proliferate will affect our ability to produce a quality encyclopedia. However at this point in time, it might be therapeutic for you to disengage from the project space for a while and allow others to pick up in your stead. Get back to what it is that made you fall in love with contributing here for at least a week or two. I hope this message doesn’t come across as smarmy. It is submitted with good intentions. Feel free to remove. Sincerely, –xenotalk 13:51, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
an editor you blocked is back at it againhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive960#WP:UNCIVIL_behavior_from_Sk8erPrince You said there he had "one final chance". Then he got around his topic ban by creating at least two sockpuppets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Sk8erPrince/Archive He is now doing the same exact behavior again. In a current AFD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Casey Mongillo (2nd nomination), someone posted a link to a reddit post showing harassment this person has done on and off Wikipedia. I saw you were active in the Fashion wikiproject and was wondering if you could take a look at a draft I've written about the Asian-American designer Draft:Sandy Liang. I was very surprised to find that she did not have an article because of her notability and wide coverage in various publications. As a novice contributor I would love your feedback and review. Thanks! Luiysia (talk) 20:45, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
