famousbirthdays.com is not a reliable source

Hi SWP13 . I'm in the process of removing famousbirthdays.com as a source from Wikipedia, because it's not reliable (See Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_153#Is_famousbirthdays.com_a_reliable_source_for_personal_information). Infobox request for Hiya (caller profile company)

Hi, I see you have created a number of infoboxes. I wonder if you might be willing to create a basic one for the company I work for, Hiya. I think Template:Infobox company is the best template; if you'd like suggestions on what items to put in I'd be happy to make some. One thing I'd especially like to see is our logo. There is a version here, or I could send you a higher resolution version. Would you mind making the infobox? Also, if you have any feedback on the article, that would be great. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Let’s take a look at Iris Chang. The surname is Chinese, and the first name is American. Her name is Chinese-American, not Chinese. Give Chinese-Americans proper treatment, write abou who they are, not what their names are or how to pronounce them. Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Empty section

Hi SWP13! There is no need to add an "External links" section to articles that don't have one but have the "Authority control" template, such as Lucia Travaini. The AC template simply goes to the bottom of the article, above the categories. Similarly, while inline citations are preferable, referenced added directly to a "References" section are still references, so I've removed the extra heading added to Lollius Bassus. The latter article is just a rewording of his entry in the DGRBM, so it doesn't need "additional citations for verification", and so I've removed the template you added. One last thing: as per MOS:BODY, "Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading", so in a short biography such as Lucia Travaini or Luo Li Rong, its better to just have one "Biography"/"Life" section instead of breaking it up. Not sure we are communicating on this. First of all, I am not going to change your User page; that is policy. When someone clicks Chow on your User page it takes them to a disambiguation page. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation. A DAB is a page that is usually only linked to when you have an article that is the same name as several articles and then only from inside an article or from a redirect. The user gets a list of choices and picks the one they need. This DAB page for Chow has entries for such things like Chow Chow a dog breed, Mr. Chow a restaurant chain, Chow (unit), an obsolete unit of mass in the pearl trade in Mumbai, and finally way down the list is the one you want, Chow (surname). Rather than having your end user have to search the list for Chow (surname), you can rather link to it directly by using Chow (surname), skipping the disambiguation page altogether. Besides, the end user doesn't even know which entry they are looking for necessarily.

So, I'm simply suggesting a replacement of the dab page wikilinks with a direct link to the item instead. There are even bots around that do this, inform you that you have links to dab pages. Also of note is that you can set an option in your preferences that changes the color of dab links to orange, which is why I even noticed your dab links in the first place. They stood out due to the changed color.

I already gave you the replacement to link to the pages directly for two of them. I didn't do it for Dewey because there was more than one possibility on the dab page. I assure you, this is standard practice when writing in Wikipedia, not just my idea. dawnleelynn^(talk) 02:07, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my goodness, you (and a couple others) did all of that work in the Chow article and then an editor just coldly deleted it from that DAB article. If it was me, I would have talked to you first. It could have possibly been added to the Chow (surname) article, but you would know more about that than me. Which reminds me, I didn't tell you how great was all the work you put into your User page, by the way. Some really helpful information to the right people. Very nice. I guess you probably had the same issue with the other two DAB pages. A real shame, for sure. I'm sure you'll figure out the best resolution for them at some point. I saw you also received the Precious award. That's so exciting, congratulations! So much of the attention on Wikipedia seems to be focused on article creation. So I am happy when I see someone receive attention for Wikignoming. I myself do both. Anyway, that's just very fitting as I have seen you've been making a difference for around two years. Gerda is right on!

Content Assessment

I have previously tried to persuade you to follow policy when assessing WikiProjects in talk pages here and here. The policies are based on Wikipedia:Content assessment. I have been following policy myself. Adherence to policy is mostly accomplished through other editors. You can refer to Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines under "Enforcement. Persuasion is the first step. I have been "persuaded" too, many times. If it were just a few articles I would leave it, but you, yourself, told me you already edited around 2,000 articles with 5,000 more to go. That's a lot of stubs, e.g. An article such as Anna Maestri, should not be classified as a stub. Marjorie Liu is definitely a C-class article, as just a couple examples. Regarding unassessed projects, I urge you to classify them according to the grading table and not arbitrarily lump them into the Start class. Sometimes it is very evident that they belong in a higher class. Perhaps this can help: Wikipedia:Assessing articles.

Regarding policy for stubs, they are so different they have their own policy page, Wikipedia:Stub, "A stub is an article that, although providing some useful information, is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject, and that is capable of expansion." "Sizable articles are usually not considered stubs, even if they have significant problems or are noticeably incomplete. With these larger articles, a cleanup template is usually added instead of a stub template." Let me know if you need help finding a cleanup template.

Furthermore regarding stub articles: Editors interact with stubs in a number of ways that are different than other articles. So, it is important that a lengthy article is not a stub. And it's not subjective, there's a pretty clear range of the number of words that defines a stub. It runs from 500 to 1,500 words per the Stub policy. Additionally, I find I need to add the stub template to articles on occasion. You might find this useful: Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types. And, always match the article stub template to the talk page classes so that both are stub.

1. I do not arbitrarily lump the articles as you describe. I do follow the assessment guidelines. If you don't agree with my assessment, please feel free to upgrade the assessment class as needed.
2. Wikipedia:Content assessment does not specify word count for stub, start, C class, or any class. It also does not specify the number of references. The description for each category is a guideline.
3. Anna Maestri existed as stub for WikiProject Biography. The 2 ref included are in Italian and they do not have links for verification. I set WikiProject Women to stub class to match the existing class.
4. Marjorie Liu started with class as blank. It can possibly become a C class. I have not checked the refs, so I will leave it as it for now. If you have reviewed the ref links and wish to upgrade it, please do so.
5. Wikipedia:Assessing articles#Article life cycle is also a good guideline. Article status should progressively improve.
6. I noticed you have been changing many start class to stubs without specific justification. SWP13 (talk) 09:10, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

1. On Megalibrarygirl's talk page, you said, "Glad you are monitoring some pages. I mostly assess WikiProject with class that is blank. I assess the page as stub or start. Feel free to upgrade to higher level (C, B, GA,..) if you wish" I was only urging you to stop addressing articles as stub unless an article was a stub and go beyond the start class when an article was obviously a higher class aka not lump them into Start class per your own words. Also, your editing history shows assessments of start and stub, never anything higher.
2. You are taking it out of context. I said the Stub policy talked about word limits and it does. The stub policy is not a guideline. It says policy on that page. If you read the Stub policy, you will see the word limits I spoke of. p.s. The individual content assessment tables in each project do not say guidelines. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women/Assessment.
3. I gave one example out of hundreds that you have edited. I could cite more. I have seen you go against the existing class as well, including in my own article, Mary Walker (rodeo), where you not only went against the existing classes, but downgraded the WikiProject Women class. A different article you classified as stub Micah Fowler was changed by another editor the next day to Start class. Let me also mention Florencia Marotta-Wurgler which was classified as a stub, wherein you also added a comment advising not to change it from the stub class, therein also promoting your made-up criteria for setting classes as stubs.
4. References are not necessarily a reason to hold back an article from class C; references and broken links are your criteria, not the project's. Anyway, it was just an example. The article Caroline Stam that Gerda asked you about was recently changed by an admin to C-class. And there was that article John Clarence Webster by Verne Equinox.
6. The articles I changed to stub class were stub articles. I changed the talk pages classes to match the stub article. This is correct, and you should be doing it as well. Instead, you are adding the stub class to articles that should not have it, and not adding the stub class to articles that should have it. I mentioned that they should match up. I have also added the stub template to articles too. Stub tags should match up between articles and talk pages. I think it was pretty clear. I hope this helps clear things up. I really think that the Stub policy is pretty easy to understand.

Okay, you can call it downgrading if you must, LOL. I was changing the classifications in the talk page to match the article, which has a stub template. Whoever set the WikiProject classes, set them incorrectly. A lot of these were set before you edited the article. If you see articles with stub templates, it's necessary and safe to change the talk page WikiProjects to stub class too. The only way that editors can find stubs is through the talk page class. And there are lots of editors where that's their thing; they like to expand stubs, even rewrite some of content in the process too. So you are in good company in wanting to expand stubs. We have several stub articles in the Rodeo project where I work. I have expanded some occasionally, but I must admit it's not my favorite thing. I admire anyone who does it regularly. After the article is larger than a stub, you can remove the stub template from the article, and classify it Start or higher in the talk page. And, of course, I will make a list for you of the articles I changed the class to stub. I'm uncertain that Reiko Nakano passes Wikpiedia's notability requirements. Regarding the article you wrote (you wrote nearly all of it, right?), there are immediate problems, such as sourcing. Hi SWP13 and Vmavanti. Agree regarding the first two sites. However, there is no blanket ban on YouTube. See WP:YTREF and WP:YOUTUBE. I would have a much smaller article for my article on War Paint if I could not cite two YouTube videos by the owners of the now deceased horse. Additionally the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and the Professional Bull Riders regularly publish videos; and it is easy to check their authenticity. I agree there is no blanket ban against YouTube. But in jazz articles, where I spend nearly all my time, I rarely see it use correctly. That is why I caution against it. Regardless, much of the information in this article is excessive and promotional even if it were sourced correctly. This is a double problem when you consider that the subject of the article may not be notable. The more you pile on, the more it looks like grasping at straws. If I were you, I would read carefully and repeatedly the documentation about notability and reliable sources before doing anything more.

You put a reference on the wrong sentence when editing William Royer. You will see my edit here[] where I removed the reference on the sentence where he was buried. It didn't belong there but on the sentence prior to that (and where it was originally before your edits). Hi SWP13, again I would direct you to policy in situations like this. iMDb does have some contentious use cases because it can be edited by anyone. Check here: Citing iMDb. It lists some items that are a green light to use and some that are not. The editor that removed your references probably did so in good faith. I can say that I have seen iMDb references removed from articles many times, including on my articles when I was beginning editing. Hi the article Cecelia Lee Fung-Sing you created is currently at new pages patrol. At the moment it is sourced only to hkmdb which isn’t acceptable as a source on Wikipedia. There are many other articles about Hong Kong actresses so if Cecelia Lee Fung-Sing is it able there must be others for her too.
