Charles Birch

Louis Charles Birch FAA (8 February 1918 8 Februari 1918 – 19 Desember 2009) adalah seorang pakar genetik Australia yang mengkhususkan diri dalam ekologi populasi danb juga dikenal sebagai teolog, yang banyak menulis topik tentang sains dan agama, serta memenangkan Penghargaan Templeton pada 1990.[1] Penghargaan tersebut diberikan atas karya-karyanya yang menjelaskan nilai intrinsik pada seluruh kehidupan.

Kehidupan awal

Birch lahir di Melbourne pada 8 Februari 1918 sebagai putra dari Harry Birch, seorang manajer bank kelahiran Selandia Baru dari ES&A Bank, dan istri kelahiran Irlandia-nya, Nora. Ia memiliki saudara kembar, Sidney, dan seorang kakak, Hugh. Birch masuk Scotch College, Melbourne, dan mempelajari pertanian di universitas di Melbourne.[2]

Birch dididik di Universitas Melbourne, meraih gelar Sarjana Ilmu Pertanian pada 1939, dan ia pertama kali bekerja di departemen entomologi di Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, dimana ia meraih gelar Dokterandes Sains pada 1941.[3]

Kematian

Charles Birch tak pernah menikah. Ia meninggalkan kembarannya, Sidney, dan saudari iparnya, Jenny.[2]
