查特吉于2015年在其著作《鸟类崛起:2.25亿年的进化》(The Rise of Birds: 225 Million Years of Evolution)第二版中创建四翼鸟科(Tetrapterygidae),其中包含晓廷龙、曙光鸟、近鸟龙甚至小盗龙,四者均被提出是鸟翼类演化支的姐妹群。[13]然而该科有效的前提是必须包括四翼鸟属(Tetrapteryx)——现为鹤属的次异名,因此四翼鸟科是鹤科的次异名。[14]
