We're having a content dispute at the article above - the list of empires has a large 216 entries, and currently the article sees fit to repeat this list 6 times! Clearly a waste of storage and bandwidth. A better solution (saving at least 30% and making it much easier to read and use) would be a table with a column for each attribute, sortable, as used in many other articles (see the discussion). This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. I’m sure it’s not intentional but your recent edits have been disruptive. Your edits are badly written, unclear, and offer your opinion rather than properly referenced facts. Andyjsmith (talk) 20:44, 15 October 2019 (UTC) I reverted your edit to Space exploration because it didn’t seem to make sense. You said “Habitability and the actual living in space is an intrinsic issue for human space exploration” which is ungrammatical and doesn’t mean anything (which is why I couldn’t fix it). And you said that it’s “often discussed along with the seperate colonialist issue of space colonization” which is a misreading of the referenced article. This WP article is about exploration, not colonisation, and the reference argues that colonisation is a misleading term because it’s not the same as “real” colonisation. That’s utterly different from what you wrote. And in any case who says that this subject is “often discussed”? Andyjsmith (talk) 22:58, 19 October 2019 (UTC) Do me a favour if you say that "This WP article is about exploration, not colonisation", then take the first paragraph about space colonisation out, then I will not see the necessity anymore to make the point about distinguishing the issue of space exploration and space colonisation. Nsae Comp (talk) 00:21, 20 October 2019 (UTC) PS: You said "And in any case who says that this subject is “often discussed”?" ... National Geography in the article does:"When discussing space exploration, people often invoke stories about the exploration of our own planet, like the European conquest and colonization of the Americas" ... and it does not differentiate between any "real" colonization and "?" colonization, it speaks of space exploration VS colonization Nsae Comp (talk) 00:43, 20 October 2019 (UTC) ArbCom 2019 election voter messageDisambiguation link notification for April 1An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Monarchy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kish (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). I am the reviewer of record, but now my review notes are basically worthless since you've come in and made modifications. That would normally be fine, but during the formal GAC process, things are supposed to follow stricter procedures (the reviewer makes suggestions and the nominator implements/contests them). You'll remember the discussions we had about Sea and Ocean on various talk pages. User:Femkemilene had suggested that I centralise the discussion and that I first have it in user space, and later bring it back to the talk pages. Here is the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:EMsmile/Ocean_and_sea_articles_discussion I didn't feel a need to make it into a very polished page, as it's just for brainstorming. As I understand the term, it applies to naval history, as opposed to maritime trade. It was coined by naval historians to refer to the period in which purpose-built sailing warships armed with cannon were the principal warships of navies (and particularly European/Western navies). So that is Mary Rose (1511) through to the 1850s, when there was a rush to build or convert the main warships of the French and British navies to screw propulsion (with some notable US Navy participation in this race). Frustratingly, naval historians just about to refuse to put this definition into print, so it is very difficult to cite a source for this. "Age of sail" appears not to be used by maritime historians for trading vessels - which is perhaps just as well, since it would be a conflicting definition with that of naval historians. The "golden age of sail" is an unrelated period which refers to the surge in technological development of sailing vessels that happened (perhaps coincidentally) after the arrival of steam power. That is things like the replacement of rope standing rigging with wire, wrought iron components for hulls (knees, beams, etc.), iron hulls, patent winches and other equipment, and better understanding of optimal routing (Matthew Fontaine Maury). Do you have any particular knowledge or sources that help resolve the problem of defining "age of sail", a term widely used by naval historians? ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 14:23, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Query about Ocean observatoryIt strikes me that either a fixed-point ocean observatory is the primary topic for ocean observatory, in which case the redirect should be reversed; or "ocean observatory" is ambiguous and that page should either be a disambiguation page, a redirect to some page that disambiguates the term or discusses multiple meanings (maybe Ocean observations § Ocean observation sources), or should be deleted to encourage article creation. The former of these things would go to RM, and the latter to RFD, and I'm not hugely familiar with the topic myself, so I thought I'd first ask if you have any thoughts? Since generally we don't do redirects from a broader term to a narrower one. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 06:13, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Some tips / adviceI was wondering if you're familiar with Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. Your text would greatly benefit from having a (near)-native speaker copy-edit it. You're allowed two requests at the same time. I would very much recommend you make use of this, also to improve your mastery of English. A second bit of advise is to bring one or two article up to WP:good article status. You're interested in quite high-impact topics like Earth and Moon, and it would be good if you're more familiar with policy and guidelines when writing on those topics. Bringing an article up to GA isn't that difficult, and you get a 50% chance that you get an in-depth review. At the very least, the reviewer will help you with your prose :). Terra NulliusHello I deleted your reference to the discovery doctrine as you didn't cite a source stating that Terra Nullius is just another term for the discovery doctrine. Nor is there a discussion of this in the body of the article. Please note that the lead is meant to be a summary of the article and new information should be sourced and added to the body of the article before it is summarised in the lead. The article on the Discovery Doctrine states that Terra Nullius is just one part of the doctrine. If you can cite sources which prove they are the same thing, then the two articles will need to be merged. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 02:01, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

They were seen earlier by the Babylonians. Perhaps you would like to replace the alleged discovery by a reference to the fact that Galileo observed the phases of Venus. 15adnm65 (talk) 10:38, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

I will not delete your additions to Utu as they are factually correct, but there are no sources provided (which is a particular problem here because it's otherwise a very rigorously sourced article) and you, as far as I can tell, essentially did not pay attention to the fact there is already a paragraph on the solar symbol in the iconography section (iirc in the past you just ignored there is an iconography section altogether) and info about its later use could easily be incorporated into it. The images could easily be added to the already present gallery, too, if anything that would better highlight the history of the solar symbol's usage both in antiquity and recently. I was reading the article on Venus to find out who gave the planet that name and was surprised to find that there's no information on this in the article. Whereas e.g. the article on the Jupiter moon Ganymede contains an extensive section on its name and naming, the only information in the article on Venus is the minimal entry "Named after Venus" in the infobox. Browsing the version history, I found that the very first sentence used to read "is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty" and that you first replaced this by "gaining its mainly used name from the Roman goddess of love and beauty which it is associated with" further down in the introduction (in this edit) and later deleted that text without replacement (in this edit). Since you wrote "trying without omiting content" in the edit summary, I was wondering whether you perhaps accidentally removed this part. There are some pages (e.g. here and here) that say the Romans named Venus (and four other planets). I think that information should be added to the article, but I didn’t want to interfere since you seem to be doing a lot of work on the article these days and probably have a better feel for how best to integrate this information. I find that back on 8 February 2022, you added four images to the section Orbital classification, each intended to show the four basic NEA orbital types. I'd like to ask for your opinion before doing anything about them, because I find them confusing and problematic, for the following reasons:
I note I have unceremoniously cut some other images from the article due to low relevance, but in spite of all of the above, I'm not entirely sure that these four need to go: the extra they could bring would be showing distribution, not just orbit geometry. So what do you think? Do you remember your original intent in adding these? Are there maybe better alternatives? Or maybe you know some other editor who is both graphically skilled & knowledgeable about astronomy who could be asked to improve upon these four images? Or replace these four and that other diagram with new, cleaner drawings of example orbits? Or just drop them? Rontombontom (talk) 20:59, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
