Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Images of bicyclesA tag has been placed on Category:Images of bicycles indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. --TheImaCow (talk) 18:52, 29 January 2024 (UTC) Thu Feb 8 NYC Hacking Night + Feb 21 WikiWednesday

I would like to include a photograph for the May 20th event announcement (preferably one of you, but anything you select is fine). Also, some text to include. Any info on a particular project would be good too. I will post on Meetup.com and Facebook. The text I am thinking about ... We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey. You do not have to be an Administrator to participate. The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement . Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement. Take the survey here. Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add HelloI am stuck with this idiot at the Harlem Library, ughhh! Urahoneza (talk) 21:46, 20 November 2024 (UTC) Meeting at Seven Stories PressWe had a pleasant and informative meeting, didn't we? Especially since there were four of us old-timers with different experiences, habits, and opinions. Not that we covered any large fraction of the gamut of Wikkians. For example, the majority think a username should be unconnected with a real name; I'm one of the minority who think it should be connected. Perhaps some don't know, we four are:
We are pals and watch each other's Talk Page to see about their activities and problems and what Wikiparties they get invited to, so we can envy them. You should go to their page and hit the star so you can see what happens to them on your Watchlist. We have a lot more friends on our Watchlists. Pharos probably has the most of us four, because he's one of the nails that hold the ship together, somewhat. Check those activities every day or two by hitting the list-star icon near the right end of the header bar of a wikipage. If you leave us a message, we can put you on our watchlists and see what amazing new kinds of trouble you're getting into. You don't even have to do that bit properly; if you're signed in and, after bumbling, hit the blue Publish button so we can see what went wrong and whom to help. So far, I've got one message in Simple English by User:Librarysparkle but don't know who that is. I have replied to it both in English and in Simple English. Better to answer here in English Wikipedia where more will see it. Now for some of the points that arose: Che Guevara is "semi-protected" because of vandalism. Vandalism on 99.9% of articles is repaired by editors having them on our watchlist, and undoing them. However, some articles are biographies of hated people, or other hated topics, and their vandalism can overwhelm this usual method. Current and recent US Presidents, UK Prime Ministers and similar politicians are very much hated, so they end up with the highest protection. Che Guevara apparently attracts far less hatred anymore, or for whatever reason he gets the lowest level of protection. Some of us old-timers have the power to give you the power to edit the article anyway, but we won't. Instead, we tell you to open a request in the article's Talk Page. This might work directly, which is to say a watcher will see that this is a completely reasonable change, and make it. It might also work indirectly. Remember that business about ten edits? Making the request counts as one of the ten. Replying to the reply, if any, counts as one of the ten. Editing other articles counts. Creating your own User Page counts. Improving it counts. Leaving a message in my User Talk Page counts. Replying to a message in your own User Talk Page counts. Anything you add, subtract, or change in any page while signed in, counts. Pretty soon it adds up to ten edits and now you are automatically upgraded, and free to get into more trouble. One good trick for possibly sensitive edits is to give a few days' warning. Since you have warned any watchers by asking on the Article Talk Page, they may be ready to pounce on any misstep. Good; you are also ready. So, make the edit with an edit summary that briefly says why. If someone objects, the Article Talk Page is your tool and ally, and is likely to attract sympathetic watchers of the article including, for now, me. By this time you've got a track record of not-too-bad edits, and that also increases your credibility. As for mentioning a book your firm has published, the publisher definitely doesn't belong in the text of the article, and probably the author and title don't. They belong in the citation, which automatically makes a footnote. Oof, this is more than I intended, about a possible problem that probably won't really be a problem. I'm sending this, and copying it to my ENWP User Talk Page (best to reply here; this is not a matter that needs privacy) and see what's on television before going to sleep. Oh; I almost forgot. Tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon at 4PM I'm meeting another newbie at the Brooklyn Heights Branch Library on Cadman Plaza West. We will discuss various issues but intend to concentrate on pictures. Perhaps a few of you will want to join us at the library or at 7PM at the Park Plaza Restaurant a couple blocks north of the library. We wouldn't want a crowd, but might be good with as many as half a dozen. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:40, 10 December 2024 (UTC) Happy New Year to you, Jim.henderson!
