DCWC closing updateThe 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, In addition to his spot in the top three, The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that... We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:35, 8 October 2024 (UTC) DYK for Uwe HolmerOn 11 October 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Uwe Holmer, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a German pastor let a deposed East German head of state stay in his house? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Uwe Holmer. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Uwe Holmer), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 00:03, 11 October 2024 (UTC) The Signpost: 19 October 2024
Administrator Elections: Discussion phase Administrator Elections | Discussion phase
The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase. On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA. Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats"). Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Books & Bytes – Issue 65The Wikipedia Library: Books & Bytes
Sent by MediaWiki message delivery on behalf of The Wikipedia Library team --12:50, 12 November 2024 (UTC) ResearchTheorist access for The Wikipedia LibraryHi - back in March you asked if we could give your alt access to The Wikipedia Library. This is now possible! The only step required is for you to attempt logging in to the library from your alt account (so that a local account is created), and then let me know and I can exempt it from the 500 edit and 6 month activity criteria. Unfortunately that alt account would still need to make enough recent edits to qualify, but I hope this is better than nothing :) Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:09, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
The Signpost: 18 November 2024ArbCom 2024 Elections voter messageHello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add Userbox error.I did sign up in your guestbook and copied the userbox thingy, but when I put it in there and then published it, it didn't work. Can you please help me so I know how to put in userboxes correctly? I can give you a Cookie if you help me!^^ Bella. (talk) 21:38, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

2025 Update from Women in Green![]() ![]() Hello HistoryTheorist: 2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved! For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you! This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!
