Native fashion bio

Hi ForsythiaJo, congratulations on your creation of Rhonda Holy Bear! I've noticed you've edited Native fashion articles. Would you have any interest in co-creating an article for Patricia Michaels? She's one of the most longstanding and active Native American fashion designers today, and I'm routinely shocked that she doesn't have an article yet. Yuchitown (talk) 16:39, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ooh I hadn't heard of Michaels before, but she sounds fascinating from a quick Google search. I've thrown some references into User:ForsythiaJo/Patricia Michaels, so feel free to add to that in whatever way you see fit! :) ForsythiaJo (talk) 18:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic! Creating a whole new biography seems daunting, so thank you for taking this project on. I'll add material. Yuchitown (talk) 18:13, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This could probably use a little proofreading first, but do you think User:ForsythiaJo/Patricia Michaels is ready to live? Thanks for collaborating! Yuchitown (talk) 03:11, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks ready to me! :) I just went through and made a couple minor wording edits. I could move it to mainspace at some point tomorrow, unless you'd like to do that. Let me know if you have any other bio ideas! I'd be down to collaborate again and I'm always looking for interesting people to write bios on. ForsythiaJo (talk) 03:55, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can do the honors since it's in your draft space. She stood out to me as a genuine celebrity who lacked a bio, but if I do think of anyone else, I'll reach out to you. Thanks so much! Yuchitown (talk) 20:54, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the Emily (cow) Wikipedia article deserves BOTH categories,

  • Category:Individual animals in the United States

and

  • Category:Individual cattle in the United States

because her representative salience is as a visible animal who escaped enslavement and inevitable murder (a violent loss of life), rather than as an image of 'cattle' (itself a deprecatory term). MaynardClark (talk) 19:25, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sobey Art Award 2024

Hi ForsythiaJo!

You have such a brilliant wikipedia page and so much knowledge of the program, I hope I can learn more in the future. Thank you again for your direction and guidance, I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for your help editing the page on Sobey Art Award Winner, my friend Nico Williams! It is all over the news! I am so glad you found it :)

All the best, Taya Cornett TayaCornett (talk) 02:22, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the kind words! Honestly in some way I still feel like quite the newbie, but learning is a constant process, isn't it? Let me know if you have any questions and I can try to answer them! I also should let you know that Wikipedia does discourage editing pages on people we personally know (see WP:COI for more details) but it does seem like Williams is considered Notable under Wiki guidelines, and the page wasn't written with too much of a promotional tone, so no harm no foul :) Just something to remember going forward!
Also, I have no idea if you would like to create more pages going forward or what your interests might be, but if you are planning to stick around as an editor you might enjoy joining a WikiProject such as WikiProject Women in Red. We aim to encourage the number/quality of women's bios on Wikipedia. For example, here is a list of women artists who currently do not have bios on Wikipedia. There are also others arts and Indigenous specific Wikiprojects, but they tend to be less active. No pressure of course, but WikiProjects are great ways to source help/ask for opinions/build community! ForsythiaJo (talk) 03:47, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks & question

Thanks for your help editing the "Dissenting POWs" article. Also, can you tell me where you noticed the possible original research. I would like to fix it. I thought I had provided sources for everything.JohnKent (talk) 17:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,
The original research tag was probably not the most accurate, but it was the closest one to my concerns. Basically, as I read the article I felt that it was moreso working to support the book's argument than it was an article about the book itself. For example, there are a number of historical newspaper references, but for some it is unclear if this is a reference that is being used by the book itself or whether the reference is being used to support the book's argument (as in a Wikipedia article titled "Opposition to claims of American POW torture"), which I think would border on original research. I would feel more confident about the article if the references were more explicitly connected to the book, ie "[Author] notes that [person x] reported good treatment while imprisoned (external reference, book reference)" rather than "[person x] reported good treatment while imprisoned (external reference)".
Looking at the categories for some other similar books, articles like The Complex: How the Military Invades Our Everyday Lives, Unfriendly Fire, and How Everything Became War and the Military Became Everything: Tales from the Pentagon focus more on reviews of the book or other outside analysis. I think strengthening coverage of outside analysis would also be good for the article, as that is usually how books are determined notable or not. ForsythiaJo (talk) 17:50, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Good suggestions. I'll see what I can do.JohnKent (talk) 18:35, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When you make categories can you populate them with more than one person? Category:Afghan librarians (1) Don't get me wrong, I think you do good work on categorization! Oh, no problem at all! 2025 Update from Women in Green

Hello ForsythiaJo:

2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!

For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!

This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!
