Uighur reportHi. I'm disappointed with the IYN item, which *continues* to use the wishy-washy "may have" because the editors/writers of the blurb got excited about the term genocide. I agree heartily with your comment that the first Alt Blurb was best, because it focuses on what is definitive in the report, namely "serious human rights violations". I think the editors got carried away with extremism and wished the report had said 'genocide' so they opted for a maybe instead of definitively referring to human rights violations. I tried to suggest something like this, but probably put it in the wrong place because I'm not familiar with correcting errors on the main page. As ModestGenius said, the report is not a court -- but the encyclopedia should reflect the report, not a *possible* accusation that editors wish had been made in a court. IMO the discussion should not be closed if the item is still on the home page. I don't know who made that decision or why. Martindo (talk) 20:36, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Community restrictions regarding the Russio-Ukrainian warHi DarkSide830, I have noticed that you have recently edited pages related to the Russo-Ukrainian War. Please note that, due to community consensus documented at WP:GS/RUSUKR, only extended-confirmed editors may make such edits. When in doubt, please assume that a topic is covered by this restriction. We call this "broadly construed". If this still leaves you unsure about whether a topic is affected by the restriction, feel free to ask on my talk page. This is not widely announced to newcomers, so I'm not blaming or condemning you for not knowing about this. I'm also not saying that your editing has been problematic in any other way. Your edit may well have been perfectly fine in all other regards, yet may have been removed for this reason. Additionally, Wikipedia's Arbitration Committee has recognized "Eastern Europe or the Balkans" as a generally contentious topic area. Don't worry: The restriction to extended-confirmed editors is about the Russo-Ukrainian War, not the entirety of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The box below contains standardized advice for everyone. This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date. You have shown interest in Eastern Europe or the Balkans. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
