Hi! Much appreciated. The sections marked as copyrighted work was actually almost all taken from China and the United Nations verbatim (with the intention to siphon the relevant content from that article into this one). Since the content was so well-sourced and in Wikipedia format, I wonder if it is possible that the blog post had taken the content from that original article? RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

• Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
• Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
• Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
• Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
• Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
• Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
• Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
• Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
• Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
• Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
• Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
• Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
• Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
• Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
• Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
• Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
• Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

RFA2024 update: phase I concluded, phase II begins

Retrocession Day vs. Retrocession of Taiwan

I understand the perspective issue surrounding the term "retrocession," yet both articles continue to use it, whether in Chinese or English. As defined in Retrocession Day, "Retrocession Day is the annual observance and former public holiday..." This suggests the day is commemorated annually. I think the use of retrocession is inappropriate in most of these cases, and that actually includes “Retrocession Day” too. As it stands currently, linking to an article about the term is akin to linking “Barack Obama was born …” to Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories or US government references to Deep state in the United States. A possible solution would be to move “Retrocession of Taiwan” to a more appropriate article name, and have it include the terms. Butterdiplomat (talk) 12:25, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First, as a common name, "Retrocession of Taiwan" is not a conspiracy theory, though controversial for many people. "Retrocession" is currently used as part of the article name on both Chinese and Japanese Wikipedia. It is also a common name in many English sources and even used by those who disagree:

• Executive Yuan: ROC to celebrate 70th anniversary of retrocession
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Treaty of Peace between Japan and the ROC
• Chunghwa Post: Commemorative 26 Retocession of Taiwan Commemorative Issue (1947)
• National 228 Memorial Museum: The 228 Incident. "In the so-called 'retrocession' of Taiwan in 1945 was a 'unification' of China and Taiwan. The 228 Incident was a side effect of this unification, caused by the enormous gaps between the Taiwanese and Chinese societies of the time, which made the two ill-suited to one another. " [Although the expressed opinion was not in favour of this name, the name is still used.]
• Ministry of Culture: 'Prison Island of Taiwan: Landscape of Injustice under White Terror'. "After the retrocession of Taiwan, the center was taken over by the Republic of China Navy and divided into a military dependents' village, a telecommunication station, and the Fongshan Guest House."
• National Taiwan University Hospital: After Retrocession of Taiwan (1945~-1950)

Second, it is not like the Handover of Hong Kong, which is almost exclusively used for the transfer of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China, although the handover of Hong Kong happened many times in history, at least twice in 1945. Whenever we used "transfer", "handover" or "takeover" for Taiwan, it confuses people and then a lot of further descriptions will be added, e.g. "from Japan" or "to the Republic of China."

Third, if you want to rename any of the two pages, I think it might be better to discuss on the talk page and request more comments from the community.

Thank you for the context. I disagree that it is the common name for the event that is also documented in Retreat of the government of the Republic of China to Taiwan. “Retrocession of Taiwan” and “Retrocession Day” are essentially the same concept; they are both proclaimed terminology by historical ROC officials. I do agree that the event that this term describes is unlike the Handover of Hong Kong, and I agree that we should request more comments. Butterdiplomat (talk) 01:08, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
