1981年世界運動會羽球比賽是第一屆世界運動會其中一個競賽項目，共產生五面金牌；賽事於1981年7月25日至7月28日在美國加利福尼亚州聖荷西的聖荷西市民禮堂（英语：San Jose Civic）舉行。

總計有17個國家派出選手參與羽球項目的爭奪，讓羽球稱為該屆世界運動會最具代表性的競賽項目之一。然而国际羽毛球联合会選手委員會的委員Ciro Ciniglio（德语：Ciro Ciniglio）對羽球項目缺少媒體關注而感到失望。他認為有多位世界冠軍參與這次的競賽，本期望能藉此吸引群眾注意，且美國一直以來都擁有非常優秀的選手，這些都有助於在美國推廣這項運動^[1]。

自從1936年的柏林奧運會後，中國第一次派出代表參加夏季綜合運動會，並在其唯一派員參賽的羽球項目中，奪得五面金牌中的四面^[2]。
