വളരെ പ്രശസ്തനായിരുന്ന ഒരു ജർമ്മൻ ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായിരുന്നു ലിബ്നീസ്. കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നതിന്‌ ആധാരമായ ബൈനറി സമ്പ്രദായത്തിന്‌ രൂപം നൽകിയത് ഇദ്ദേഹമായിരുന്നു.

ജീവ ചരിത്രം

ജർമ്മനിയിലെ ലീപ്സിഗിലിൽ ഒരു കോളേജ് അദ്ധ്യാപകന്റെ മകനായി 1646-ൽ ജനിച്ചു. ഇരുപതാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ നിയമത്തിൽ ഡൊക്ടറേറ്റ് നേടിയ ഇദ്ദേഹം 1667-ൽ ഒരു നാടുവാഴിയുടെ കീഴിൽ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി ജോലിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു. ആ ജോലിയിലിരിക്കെ ആ പ്രദേശത്തെ നിയമങ്ങൾ ലിബ്നീസ് ക്രോഡീകരിക്കുകയും , ദർശനശാസ്ത്രം, യന്ത്രതന്ത്രം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിൽ വളരെയധികം സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകി. ബർലിനിൽ ജർമ്മൻ ശാസ്ത്ര അക്കാദമിയുടെ ആദ്യത്തെ അധ്യക്ഷനും ആയിരുന്നു. 1710-ൽ അദ്ദേഹം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച "തിയോഡിസ്" എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പ്രശസ്തനാക്കി.

ശാസ്ത്രത്തിലേക്കുള്ള സംഭാവനകൾ

കലനം, അങ്കഗണിതത്തിലെ ഡിറ്റർമിനന്റ്സ് എന്നിവയുടെ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തലുകൾ; ഇന്ന് കലനത്തിൽ വ്യാപകമായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ചിഹ്നനവ്യവസ്ഥ എന്നിവ ഗണിതത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നതും ലിബ്നീസ് ആയിരുന്നു. കൂടാതെ യന്ത്രികോർജ്ജ സംരക്ഷണനിയമം, അന്തരീക്ഷ മർദ്ദം അളക്കുന്നതിന്‌ രസം ഉപയോഗിക്കാതെ അനറോയ്ഡ് ബാരോമീറ്റർ എന്നിവ രൂപപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിലും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. നിരവധിപേരെ ഗണിതശാസ്ത്ര ശാഖയിലേക്ക് ആകർഷിച്ച ഗണിതശാസ്ത്ര പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണം 1682-ൽ ലിബ്നീസിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ്‌ സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. 1716-ൽ ലിബ്നീസ് അന്തരിച്ചു.
