Wembezi is a township at Estcourt in the Uthukela District Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.


History

Rich in political history especially for the ANC and IFP warfare that took place claiming life of a lot of People during what was known as "udlamu" the upheaval this devastating wars left wembezi with a scary past for older residents to remember.

Way back Wembezi was a IFP area but changed with the introduction of ANC first being known at Depo Section and spreading to other sections namely 5Room and VQ section.

Politically now there are few parties at Wembezi being: ANC as ruling and NFP, IFP with a few of EFF and Aljama

SECTIONS

Wembezi has about 11 sections with the small Townships

  1. B Section (Long Homes) : A suburban kind of area - home to well known Zola Primary school - new cemetery is close to this section. Estcourt educational circuit office is there.
  2. Mahhashini :Was home to Wembezi only surgeon the late Dr Thulani. Police station and Wembezi community Library can be found in this section of wembezi. This section also Base the famous Meester lounge.
  3. Gunawugi : Notorious for being old fashioned and traditional.
  4. JZ : this are RDP houses built during Jacob Zuma's presidency hence the name JZ - above JZ is the old cemetery which is now unused due to lack of space.
  5. VQ : The most vibrant and energetic section. Has two famous alcohol outlets Kwa Nana (Ntokozo's Tarvan) aka Kwa Mdala emakasini and Kwa Thami. This section also houses Nkanyiso Primary School. Wembezi's Multi Purpose Hall is here. Wembezi Clinic is Here.
  6. Nkwezela :Was Home to gangsters of Wembezi. These gangsters would have stabbed you straight no jokes. Muntuza Full Service School is in this section
  7. C section : Kwa fela ubala (Where you die for no reason) a dangerous and notorious area full of trigger happy guys. Houses the Zamukuthula Primary School.
  8. D Section : Small settlement after C section, the edge of Wembezi
  9. Depo section : Old depot station for buses, founding section for ANC and home to ANC's renowned veteran Baba uMkhize. Home to oldest High school in entire Township Wembezi High School.
  10. A Section (5 Room) - Only section that has 5 room building built by government back then. Hosts Wembezi Stadium and oldest Church Emaromini.
  11. Russia - A small 2 street area within Depo
  12. Bantwana _ A small area in between VQ and Stadium.
  13. EmaShona _ A rural type settlement that is growing quickly due large portion of space for housing.
