Ziphosuchia

Don't revert it yet: according to Turner and Sertich (2010) [who specifically used the clade name "Ziphosuchia" without changing its definition] Ziphosuchia is a subclade of Notosuchia. As its wikipage points out Ziphosuchia is defined to include Notosuchus, Libycosuchus, and Sebecosuchia. Turner and Sertich followed "an amended definition given by Carvalho et al. (2004), with Ziphosuchia defined as the most recent common ancestor of Notosuchus terrestris, Libycosuchus brevirostris, and Baurusuchus pachecoi" {from T&S2010}. Notosuchia is a stem-based clade (Notosuchus > Crocodylus), and therefore only if Baurusuchus and/or Libycosuchus are found out to be closer to Crocodylus, Ziphosuchia will include Notosuchia. Yeay, that one is really confusing, but for now I think it should stay.. T&S 2010 used Sebecosuchia to include Baurusuchus and Sebecia (a funny thing for sure) without defining it, pending a coming soon revision... I just saw your latest piece of work: Purlovia maxima. Very nice! Anyway, Ucucha and I are about to re-write Pachylemur. We have a picture of a skull, and I can point you to a reconstruction from the latest edition of Lemurs of Madagascar. If I can arrange support from Dr. Godfrey, would you be up for it? Also, I don't know if you want to dare it, but I plan to re-write the aye-aye article soon, and I would love to have a life reconstruction of a giant aye-aye. I don't know if you're up for that. The trick is that no one has attempted to draw one, and no skulls have been found. (Basically, it sounds like an over-sized aye-aye, roughly 5 times more massive.) Aetosaurs

Hi! No, they don't, and they don't consider Stagonolepididae to be a "family" or Aetosauria to be an "order". In fact they don't use any other classic rank (except for genus and species). However, as you said it is implied by the -inae suffix, so I think it sould be considered a subfamily or Desmatosuchinae shouldn't be cosidered a subfamily, too. Hi. It' has been a while since my last message. I have seen your last works and they are amazing as usual. If you need some papers about, lepospondyls, temnospondyls, lissamphibians or another tetrapod linked in the amphibian evolution, i could send you a copy. Nordenosaurus the 'gator(oid)

I was wondering if you could tell me where Nordenosaurus was described as an alligatoroid. It hasn't made it to the Paleobiology Database, but I can tell from Googling sideways that either Gauthier (1982) (Fossil xenosaurid and anguid lizards from the early Eocene of Wyoming, and a revision of the Anguioidea. Contributions to Geology, University of Wyoming 21: 7-54.) or Estes (1983) (Sauria terrestria, Amphisbaenia. Handbuch der Paläoherpetologie 10A:1-249), or both, have something to do with it. J. Template:Mesoeucrocodylia and some categories

Hi again! I would like to consult you about some things:

• Template:Mesoeucrocodylia - I think this template isn't so good and it's confusing. There are different definitions for Mesoeucrocodylia so the template is unstable and it includes Notosuchia (which has a template). I suggest to open a template for Neosuchia and redirect Template:Mesoeucrocodylia to Template:Basal crocodylomorphs.
• The list of genera in the Notosuchia page is long but incomplete, and I don't know what to do about it (to add more taxa or to divide it...)
• The categories Terrestrial crocodiles and Marine crocodiles are mostly used for taxa that are not "crocodiles", so maybe we should rename them?

I agree, however there is one thing: maybe it will be better to use the name "Category:Aquatic crocodylomorphs" since taxa like Pholidosaurus, Sarcosuchus, Elosuchus and Meridiosaurus were freshwater forms, but not marine. (Forteir et al., 2011) Rnnsh (talk) 10:10, 7 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think I have just realized something about Anteophthalmosuchus hooleyi and Goniopholis willetti, from Andrade et al. (2011) - there were Hooleyi's Goniopholididae indet and Hulke's Goniopholididae indet (="Mr Willett's crocodilian skull"), that with Dollo's Goniopholididae indet clade together near Goniopholis. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any of those, and although there's lots of information in Andrade et al. about them, I don't know if its ok to use this info until we will know for sure that A. hooleyi and G. willetti are Hooleyi's Goniopholididae indet and Hulke's Goniopholididae indet...

In The Meantime

First thing's first, I want to congratulate you for the splendid job you've been doing creating that Placodermi template, and working on all those cladograms. Second, I was wondering if you know of a cladogram for Aspinothoracidi. I do know that, since the separation of Dinichthyidae from Dunkleosteidae, some of the genera mentioned in Apinothoracidi were deemed basal pachyosteomorphs, and others relegated to Dunkleosteidae, and a couple were banished to Newark, but, I keep forgetting which is where.--Mr Fink (talk) 22:42, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hy Smokeybjb the mane problem with your argument is that clade is not a rank. About the parents if other groups are ranked as clades then their ranks should be changed to unranked as well. Smokeybjb wikipedia is written for the genrel reder not for the experts so even though sensu lato has an exact definition we still need to give its mening. And linking is, especially in this case a very Inefficient compromise for defining. in other cases like Gnathostomata the reder knows nothing about it so is more likely to clik on the link, but every body knows about amphibia and even if the sensu lato catchs their atention the link simply takes them to the amphibia article and the title makes them think that the article contains no information about sensu lato. Navbox for early amphibians

Hi!

I see you have put in a very nice navbox for the early amphibians. There's one problem with it though. It uses the term "Stem tetrapods" (linking to Stem Tetrapoda). Due to the extreme instability of the basal tetrapod tree, this unit is practically useless. The only thing we know belongs in there are the Ichthyostegalia and a whole lot of fishes (Rhizodontidae, Canowindridae, Megalichthyidae, Osteolepidae and the Elpistostegalia), but from there on the scientific consensus brakes down. On one extreme end the above would be it, on the other, all labyrinthodnts save Diadectomorpha and Lepospondyli should be included. I suggest sticking to the more well understood traditional units (Temnospondyls, Lepospondyls, Reptiliomorpha etc) and drop the stem group system here. Some Manda Beds taxa

Hi Smokeybjb,

I'm not sure where some Manda Beds taxa should be mentioned (in the Paleobiota section). I thought that Stanocephalosaurus pronus is known only from its holotype, UMZC T.288, a partial skull from Ntawere Formation. Am I missing a referred specimen or is it just a mistake? Additionally, is Stenaulorhynchus major valid? According to the Paleobiology Database it is known from two specimens from Manda Beds. From Lautenschlager and Desojo (2011): "Von Huene (1939) noted that the distal element {type of S. major} is nearly indistinguishable in size and shape from the humerus of Stagonosuchus nyassicus, which originated from the same locality and level, and attributed the fragmentary left humerus also to Stagonosuchus nyassicus." However, it's not very clear what they think about this synonymy, and it's problematic as S. nyassicus was named in 1938 but S. major in ‎1932. And there is also Stagonosuchus tanganyikaensis (SAM 11754) - Lautenschlager and Desojo (2011) wrote: "... Based on these differences, we do not refer SAM 11754 to Stagonosuchus", and suggested that it might represent a rhynchosaur...
