Korean pages

Hey, I saw your question...and I really don't know how to answer it because to me, krnloop is the only one that puts in sources. I usually just type in korean what i want (generally) and go from there, but since you don't know it...I don't know what you can do. I'll let you know if I see something promising. Well darn, LOL. I can search in Korean (I mean, hey, I can copy-paste with the best of 'em!) but the results don't do me much good! Have you found krnloop's translations pretty accurate? If so, I might be able to use them for non-contentious facts. I mean, some of these articles have no sources at all... and I'm so sick of seeing translations that credit 15 different screen names but not, you know, the actual source. Manhwa people, come here!

Okay, here's the situation. I was wondering if any of you know if anyone is working on manhwa articles in an organized or systematic way? Right now it falls under the wikiproject Korea's popular culture working group. I took a look at the contribs of the people on the participants list, and aside from someone who worked on the main manhwa article last year, I don't see any manhwa-related edits. (The group as a whole is pretty dead, actually.)

I also don't see any of the 'regional' wikiprojects I'm involved with (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Korea) working on their respective local comics (besides Japan, obviously). The Comics project has a new World comics working group, which presently doesn't have any Asian comics listed in its scope, I guess either through a desire not to step on any regional project toes or (more likely) in the assumption they are all handled by animanga. (Or because the creator didn't think of it.) I posted up a message on the 4 regional projects listed above, asking if there was any core of folks there working on comics and if they had objection/opinion about seeing their country's comics handled at the world comics group, but haven't gotten a single reply from any of them.

My idea was to see if the Asian comics besides manga could be added to the scope of world comics, and make that a place to centralize some much-needed work on manhwa-related articles. With the exception of a few decent series-specific articles, everything I've run across related to manhwa is just...crap, to be blunt, LOL. Expertise or ability to read Korean isn't even required (I'd never heard of Blade of the Phantom Master until I responded to an RfC @ project Korea), and there's gotta be some interested parties out there. I don't actually know if you guys are even into manhwa, or if you just wound up on those articles b/c of the whole Japan-Korea collaboration issue. But I just wanted your opinion as to whether there you know of some hub of people working on manhwa, and whether you think trying to create a hub at world comics is worthwhile. I'm sorry I've deferred to you to edit Blade of the Phantom Master. You've been working very hard and editing from neutral point of view, so I really appreiciate your effort. I've very busy and had some another urgent matter in English Wiki as well (I'm more active into Korean cuisine and Korean film) I think integration of all Asian comics except manga are a great idea for editors or readers to apprehend different/similar forms from manga. I do care about manhwa related articles, but that is really a subculture from Koreans, so there is not much editors here or even at Korean wikipedia. Japanese manga has established to spread their works via anime/magazines to inside and outside world while current Korean manwha is webtoon-centered. Even thought many of manhwa works are adapted into films, drama, or other cultural items, articles relating to top 5 manhwa artists are not created yet. If we initiate Asian comic task force in comics project, it would be really helpful not only to arrange such articles in order but also to draw potential editors who are interested in the subjects. Thanks so much for your perspectives, and don't apologize over BotPM! I'm enjoying myself and now am quite interested to sit and read the series through. And it forced me to learn how to make an infobox template! :) I'm glad you feel the same about the manhwa situation, and I'd thought about an Asian comics task force as well. I definitely understand WP:ANIME removing non-Japanese forms from the project to prevent sheer out-of-control bloat, but it has unintentionally left manhwa and similar forms high and dry. A lot of manhwa and a little Chinese manhua is being published in the US right now, so its English-speaking readership is growing, though b/c of the way it's usually marketed, many of the fans don't realize it's not manga. I've asked for a few other comments as well from other editors I thought might have interest. In the meantime, I'm going to go to the world comics working group and make some inquiries. Technically speaking, manhwa and manhua (and, actually, also manga) are within the scope of WikiProject Comics, but I don't think there's much real interest in focusing on manhwa or manhua. I started a discussion on the animanga project a little over a week ago about not explicitly excluding manhwa and manhua from our scope, but it was shot down, although IIRC a person or two did express interest in contributing to a possible wikiproject devoted to them. Thanks for your input! I figured you were pretty loaded up in animanga but thought your perspective would be valuable nonetheless (which it is!). I'm glad to hear others are interested in working on these types of articles, though, and hope you could be counted on to help guide lonely wannabe manhwa editors as well as those misguided souls submitting articles to animanga under the mistaken impression that everything Tokypop calls "manga" really is, over to the world comics working group once it's a go. I know no one currently at Comics' main group is interested in non-English stuff, and the founder of the world comics working group's area of expertise is Argentinian comics. But all articles on non-English comics (and media, for that matter) share some common challenges, and to a large extent it's a much-needed place to centralize -- dump infobox templates, sort out category nightmares, take a look at crap like List of manhwa. I'll take a look at the animanga discussion you mentioned and make a point of poking the amenable people, and if you don't mind, I'll give you a heads up as things progress, just for FYI purposes. Absolutely, and that's part of the reason a lot of this can be pretty easy and not "from scratch." I mean, with the exception of some very Japan-specific things, everything happens basically the same way as in animanga. Well, I don't think my input is really anything that hasn't been said, but I just want to say that I would be glad to help with the project. There is a manwha, Jack Frost, that I really want to be expanded on, but cannot possibly find all the sources myself. Manwha is barely ever recognized as manwha either, and it annoys me to an extent that people refer to everything as "manga". Ooh yeah that's a good one! One of these days, Lee Soo-man's article needs some hard-core attention. Just a couple weeks ago I removed some really horrible unsourced allegations from his article, and they'd probably been sitting there for a long time. X_x Right now I'm setting up a manhwa working group and it's eating most of my time, but when I'm less busy I'd like to see an SM task force under Wikiproject Korea/Popular culture working group, as a temporary thing to get some SM articles improved in a coordinated way. Then there can be some standardization and sharing of resources. Most of the articles with the exception of TVXQ and The Grace are, um, not too great...and TVXQ and The Grace are far from perfect. In the meantime I've just been doing a few little fixes here and there, and then thinking "ack I don't have time for this!" LOL! I keep bookmarking articles that I run into online, for future use, but just haven't been able to do anything with them yet. It does certainly seem that way. I still haven't figured out what exactly he's reporting you for. Part of this stems from his inability to express himself with clarity, due to language constraints, which isn't his fault but does compound the murkiness of the whole situation. That happens on the BPM talk page, too. Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. Thanks for the note! As these stub types are exactly like other stub types within the project, I didn't think going through the entire process was necessary...or even that a process existed, LOL. Our "world" comics group only has stub types for two parts of the world, so these new ones are very necessary. Oh, I did not even know you posted the matter to WP:KO (I had to go back and forth to WP:ANI for Korean cuisine, racist vandals, Jazz-related matters during the time. :( ) Well, unless, Korean people are very famous outside of South Korea with their alternative spelling (ex. "Moving" articles

I see that you are correcting Korean names that are in the wrong order. However, the proper method is to use the Move tab that is at the top of the page. This preserves the edit history. You haven't been a user long enough, I think, to see the Move tab; that should happen in a few hours. Until then, please refrain from "moving" articles the copy-and-paste way. • Not to worry. Your edits are in good faith, and can always be undone if somebody feels strongly about the edit histories (not me). If you wanted to fix them, just try moving the older articles to the better name. If that is prevented by the programming (I have yet to figure out why sometimes one can move over existing articles and sometimes one can't), I think you you can blank the pages you made, put the {{db-author}} on them, and when they get deleted, move the older articles. Comics or "manhua" in Singapore

Hi, in Singapore, there is no distinction between the terms. Generally "comics" is the broad identifier for any comic book, and "漫画" (manhua) is the Chinese word for this purpose. Hence, "comics" = "manhua", when used in most shops. A separation of region is only accounted for, e.g. "English comics, Chinese comics, Japanese comics". Although using "manga" to identify Japanese works is evident in media articles, the shops (Kinokuniya, Times, and bookstores) still using "comics/manhua". One can be tempted to conclude that society-wise, there is no real effort to differentiate the works. Note that Chuangyi use "manga" as the English word for "comics"...

This pertains to local works as well. To repeat, English works such as "Orchard Road" and "Lat" and Chinese works such as "Celestial Zone" are reffered as "comics" in English and "漫画 (manhua)" in Chinese (sometimes with a language prefix) . Jappalang (talk) 03:25, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. Down here, there is no schism (yet?) in classifying these works. Perhaps the overall view is that they are all the same (using drawings to show a story), or that it is not worth the attention. For the moment, "comics" is the general word for describing this industry in Singapore, regardless of its language. Of course, some local fan communities might beg to differ. Just an update. I just went down to the local Kinokuniya and noticed the following changes...

• Japanese "comics" are shelved under "コミックス" (comics)
• Chinese-language "comics" are shelved under "漫画" ("manhua"/comics)
• English-language "comics" by Marvel/D.C./Image are shelved under "Comics" (including compilations and graphic novels)
• English-language "comics" in the Japanese drawing style (yes, that includes the "OEL"s) are shelved under "Manga"
• English-language "comics" in the Japanese drawing style that are compiled ala Shonen Jump are shelved under "Comics" along with Mad and Cracked magazines

Fluid Friction Comics

I can't think I've ever seen it done before (you can get it done if you are the only editor and you blank a page - you do it sometimes if you've started a category with a typo in it). I've left them a note about this. What might be helpful is if the article was if it was given a once (or twice) over and made more neutral - also those links in references should be made into footnotes to support statements made in the article. I know what you mean, but on the articles I tend to monitor, darn near no one uses edit summaries. I think the user is new to Wikipedia and posted about this on the article's talk page. Chinese Music History

Hi, I found via the participants list of WikiProject Chinese language entertainment. I myself have worked on the article for Chinese rock a few times in the past and am dedicated to present Chinese music online to those that don't speak Chinese, i.e. 5/6 of the world.

As you can see from my user page, I am also one of the founding members of Rock in China (which currently expanded to Music-China.org). Our community is also a Mediawiki-based system solely focussed on Chinese music with one major difference: Whereas Wikipedia would like to be an encyclopedia with the aim to capture humankind's knowledge in brief, short and destinctive articles, it is our aim to present Chinese music in all its details and as much information as possible. As we like to say, we are preparing the reference page that Wikipedia is linking to. You can see the page for Cui Jian as example where this is implemented.

The main reason I am writing to you is that we have started a new project at Music-China.org called 'Chinese Music History' during which we want to document the complete history of Chinese music in all its details and cross-reference it to Wikipedia, i.e. work on both platforms according to each platforms' aims.

I would like to invite you, as member of the WikiProject Chinese language entertainment to help us build up both wikis, Wikipedia and Music-China.org. Please feel free to read more about us and the the project.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!
