Script for AFD or PROD?

Hello, I'm looking for a script that allows me to quickly add an "AFD" and a "PROD" to articles and quickly add them to the "AFD" page and notify the creator. Currently I have a script that allows me to mark it for "speedy deletion" but I'm looking for a script that adds another panel at the top that can make it easier to mark them as AFD. Noun particle

I noticed your change to the redirect I set the other day. However, noun particles aren't indigenous to Japanese, as far as I know. Suggesting as much doesn't make sense, and I felt that redirecting to general information about particles (which did, in fact, mention noun particles and explain what a particle is) would be best until someone did have insight on how best to explain noun particles across all languages that have them. Perhaps, but it remains that the article redirects to an article that doesn't explain what a noun particle is, in what way it differs from just any old particle, et cetera. Stubs attract writers, redirects don't. But if you are knowledgable in this field, why don't you write something about it? Then the redirect won't harm and no stupid stub is needed. Hi. I came here from the Formatter talk page, having just checked for the issue reported, then checked the edit history and realised that you had directly copied this section from your talk page. While there's nothing wrong with doing that when relevant, it would be better to have included some sort of notice, especially because it appears User:Darkest Hour's problem was not with the Formatter but with your search & replace tool... Male Y DNA testing

I recently sent Dna samples for analysis and as part of a study tracking decendants of an early dutch imegrant to New Amsterdam now New York. My DNA markers matched 4 others in the group with different surnames all with Dutch origins. I am a Garrabrant, Two are Clawsons, ant Two are petersons. Aggregation in COM

Thanks for adding the section about Aggregation in COM in Object composition. I found that material very interesting although I found it a bit difficult to be understood for those with no enough knowledge of COM. Could you expand it ? I unfortunately don't have OS9, but on my disintegrating Windoze box this happens:

Which after hitting the conversion key (spacebar on my PC) becomes:

But perhaps it would be nicer to demo a longer sentence, perhaps a famous quotation or something?

Perhaps Japanese literature can be a source of inspiration, although I should note at this point that many modern texts can unfortunately not be used due to copyright considerations. I was looking at this edit, I think. I've dug in the history of the article for a bit, and I found this, which an anon later fixed and then you appear to have accidentally undone the fix. Can happen to the best of us. If you are still convinced you didn't do it, not even by accident, just change your password - life goes on. P.S. User check requires a special privilege and we don't all have it, but I believe this happened by accident, so what's the worry? MoS

Whatever script you've been using recently to clean up articles to MoS guidelines is breaking {{convert}} templates and possibly others which require a hyphen to be used to denote a negative number for the software to process it. I don't know if this has affected any of your other contributions besides that to WWII. You ought to change or at least check the behaviour of the script though. Note that templates such as this still output MoS-compliant dashes such as the minus sign even though the input needs to be a hyphen. BigBlueFish (talk) 15:43, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, I totally overlooked that! (I assume you're talking about {{convert|600|mi|km|-2}}.) In principle all edits through that script must be overlooked by a carbon-based AI, but when there are lots of dashes it can happen that it misses something when the script doesn't handle something correctly. IPA chart 2005

I say on the talk page of Image:IPA chart 2005.png that I'll be happy to generate an SVG file if someone tells me how, but there hasn't been any response. The only way I can think of is to first convert the Word doc to PDF, and then convert the PDF to SVG, but much of the text gets corrupted. Some of the fonts get lost along the way. I'm sorry I didn't check the talk page, I was just routinely tagging. Anyway, without seeing what went wrong for myself it's hard to say what exactly goes wrong, but I gather PDF is okay, right? So maybe there's something wonky with the program you use to convert the PDF to SVG. There are a few things you could do. You could try a different program to do the conversion, a quick websearch yields the names Pstoedit (commandline utility), Gsview (a PDF/PostScript viewer that calls Pstoedit), and Inkscape (but not yet in the main branch). Another option would be to grep the file for the font names or to try to select the text objects and see what kind of font names the converter made up, so you can correct what went wrong. It's of course also possible that the SVG is okay but that the drawing program doesn't load it correctly. If all else fails, I can recreate the file as an SVG using Inkscape, but that will involve drawing the table etc., so in that case I will take my sweet time. Upon checking the Japanese Wikipedia page and official website for Akai Ito, I realized I was in error. The game was released for the Playstation 2, but not for the PC. Leonardo's science etc

I just reverted your edits and I am leaving this message to explain why. In many articles quotations conatin information that is being used by the editor to enlarge upon the subject eg:

Vasari says of Leonardo "not only was he esteemed during his lifetime, but his reputation endured....."

This is a very different sort of quotation to:

Shakespeare wrote:

"To be, or not to be. That is the question.

Whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune......"

In the article about Leonardo's science and inventions, the quotations which have been set apart as cquotes fall into the "to be or not to be" category, not into the "Leonardo was esteemed during his lifetime" category. They are quotations from Leonardo's own journals that indicate how his mind was working. They are not part of the informative discussion of his achievements. Once you remove the cquote marks, the reader the reader then has to make sense of the several disjointed passages which don't flow immediately from the sentence above, or the sentence below.

When you make changes like this, you need to read thoroughly what the article is saying and understand why that format has been chosen. If you don't do this, then later editors tend to presume that what you have done is fine, because it complies with some reasonable standard. The effect, however, is very destructive to the article, however untintentionally so, because it makes nonsense out of clarity. Amandajm (talk) 09:19, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

These quotes are indeed "pull quotes". However they are not used in the journalistic sense that generally entails pulling the most sensational few lines out of the article to excite interest. In this instance they are quotations pulled from the writer's journals. The actual statements made in the pull quotes are not very closely linked to the general text, because they are sampled rather than discussed. That is why they were in cquotes. I know exactly how they were used, and the reason why they were in cquotes, because I wrote the article. In this particular instance, it is the correct use of this formatting. Romanian keyboard layout

Hi,

This image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Romanian_keyboard_layout_(Romania_&_Moldova)_-_text_as_paths.svg is wrong. Nobody uses that keyboard layout. Where did you hear that from?

Have a look at http://www.secarica.ro/kbdro_help_romanian_standard_ro.pdf and http://www.secarica.ro/kbdro_help_romanian_programmers_ro.pdf for details. Briefly there are two layouts: romanian (standard) and romanian programmer. The last one is identical to the US layout with added letters on 3rd and 4th layer. The first one is almost identical with US layout but the Romanian letters are added around the Enter key, like in your picture.

Colors used in Heraldry

I'm in the process of restoring "The Heraldry of the Johnstons" by G. Harvey Johnston. I've started to work on the first of the eight, color plates and would like to know if there is an accepted formula that one can use in Photoshop for blue, red, and gold, ie: the numerical values for Red, Green and Blue or C, M, Y, K?

I would like to do as accurate a restoration job as possible.

Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon. It's 1-3 June and registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, just mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

Our goals for the event are to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Non-free rationale for File:WinDiff demonstration.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:WinDiff demonstration.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Dithering program

Hi,

In https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Gerbrant/Dithering_algorithms you mentioned that you used a "homebrew program" to generate those images. Do you happen to still have the source available? I al really curious about the exact matrices used by each method as it is difficult to find info on some.
