Do you have the expertise to absorb the Gospel Hall Brethren page into the Open Brethren page? I have long contended that it should be a sectrion of that page, and doesn't warrant a page of its own. Your user page is cascade protected. Please do not cascade protect your user page. This makes templates that are usually not protected like {{User ko-1}} and {{User eo-2}} protected as well. Even {{User Ten Year Society}} became protected because you enabled cascade protection for your user page. Template editors will be unable to make changes on {{Age in years, months and days}}, {{Award2}}, and {{ISO 639 name}} unless the cascade protection for your user page is turned off. Cascade protection causes all templates that are transcluded in a page to be protected. Eyesnore (pc) 00:59, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Alliance Party (Fiji)Hi David. I see you moved this article to Alliance Party. I'm afraid I have moved it back to the (Fiji) title, as I don't believe it is the primary topic for the name. The Alliance Party was the ruling party in Malaysia for 16 years, whilst the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland is currently one of the main parties in Northern Ireland. If you still think it is the primary topic, I'd suggest you use the RM process. Cheers, Number 57 11:00, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm not fluent in template-ese, but it seems to be on the "name" line near the top. After the words "topics", there were two closing curly-braces — }} — and you changed it to only one. This is now making some templates that uses Country topics just display "{{Navbox with striping |name = European Union topics}" — I noticed it on Template:European Union topics. Today, calling someone "Fiji Islander" rather than "Fijian" would indeed have a right-wing political connotation, but it's simply that the article was never updated. Kindly refrain from assuming ill intent…

Infobox title dispute with another userHello. I have recently entered a dispute with Cartakes over the correct naming of former countries (specifically the old imperial dynasties of China) in the top of the article infobox. As it was originally (and I have attempted once to revert this to no avail), the names were simply the period names such as "Sui", "Xia", "Tang" (and on occasion "Great Yuan", "Great Qing", etc.) which are the official state names from the period. However, he has come along and changed them to include the word "dynasty" with the period name in the infobox title which is not the official state name but a common name given by Western culture. I have attempted to talk to him, but he is adamant that I am incorrect. Even looking at the same articles written in Chinese show that the infobox title without the word "dynasty" in it. Our discussion is located in this section on his talk page. Can you please help me resolve this? Nick Mitchell 98 (talk) 13:14, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Indo-Fijian HindusYou do realise that that the above mentioned Category is very racist right? ..There is no such thing as an ITaukei hindus so the category was better as Fijian Hindus and there was no need to divide it..the term "indo-fijian" is no longer allowed to be used under the 2013 Constitution.--Stemoc 04:14, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
The category system needs to be consistent, too. For example, the Category:Indo-Fijian Muslims and Category:Indo-Fijian Christians categories will link to international — and India-specific categories about Muslims and Christians (I haven't put the links in yet. I will later — unless somebody else beats me to it). The Category:Indo-Fijian Hindus category will likewise link to international and India-specific categories concerning Hinduism. Keeping it the way it was created a problem : Category:Fijian Hindus itself was a sub-category of Category:Fijian people by religion. This includes other categories that have nothing to do with Indians, so when linked to India-specific categories, that would muddle things up. I'm uncomfortable with the emotional and political connotations that are so often attached to words like Indo-Fijian. I have Indian friends who have argued vehemently both for and against that term, and other terms. It's not my business to take sides in that debate, and Wikipedia should stick to a neutral point of view and avoid taking sides either. That's partly why I renamed the parent category from Category:Indo-Fijian people to Category:Fijian people of Indian descent (which is also consistent with the way other categories are named — e.g. Category:British people of Indian descent. Wikipedia is trying to rationalize its naming systems for categories, so I'm just trying to follow the system that international categories have. (I had nothing to do with setting that system up, by the way). As for using the term "Indo-Fijian" in other categories, once again I'm just trying to follow the practice of how other categories (specific to other countries) are named. As it stands, the Category:Fijian Hindus category has not been deleted: it still stands as an empty category, but as the parent category it will be an important link to international categories. Just so that you know, what I've done with the category is not a split, it's a diffusion. I'm also in the process of organizing categories for iTaukei people. Those categories will be inside parent categories that will also include categories related to Indians. NO WAY is this intended as a social/political statement! It's simply so that researchers will be able to access information through streamlined categories — the Indo-Fijian categories will link to global categories about Indian people, the iTaukei categories to global categories about Melanesian /Oceanian people, and both sets of categories to parent categories about Fijian people generally. Bottom line: these categories are not just about Indians in Fiji. They have to be organized in such a way as to be able to "link" to categories about INDIAN people globally (Hindus, Muslims, Christians, etc), WITHOUT conflating those international categories with topics that have nothing to do with Indians. I will try to find out a bit more about how this is being done project-wide and will follow that pattern. Speedy deleteYou add your comments to pages awaiting for speedy delete, see e.g. Sterling Linder Davis, Gary Striewski.Xx236 (talk) 09:05, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
If you judge that they ought to be deleted under the relevant criterion, you may surely delete them. If you think that no speedy deletion is warranted, you may remove the db tag. I generally then add {{oldcsd}} to the talk page, and sometimes drop a note on the talk page of the editor who tagged the article or page for speedy deletion. In such a case you might well choose to edit the article or page. If you aren't sure but wish to try to improve a page, or leave a talk page comment for another admin, that is also perfectly fine. There is nothing wrong with leaving comments on such pages, if you judge them worth leaving. However I don't think there is much point in adding maintenance tags to a page tagged with db-author, unless you are going to decline the speedy (generally because there is in fact more than one author) DES (talk) 13:19, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

About Johnson_PhilipI notice that you have put together an article about me. However, there are a few factual errors, and kindly correct it. 1. It says I am "Principal of Brethren Theological College at Cochin University". Actually it should be Cochin University PO, where PO stands for Post Office. Alternately, you can drop the name Cochin University and say "Principal of Brethren Theological College in Kerala". BTC has no connection with Cochin University. 2. The article says that I lean towards Arminianism. That is wrong. I am opposed both to strict Calvinism as well as to strict Arminianism, and stand midway to accept some tenets of Calvinism and some of Arminianism. 3. In Academic career "he became the Founding Principal of Brethren Theological College at Cochin University in Kerala.[23]" the phrase Cochin University should be changed to 'Kerala' I guess that Cochin University PO confuses many who do not know the meaning of PO I will mention other corrections after these two major errors are corrected Dr. Johnson C. Attorneys General of the Leeward IslandsHi David- I will have a good look to see if anything worthwhile can be done on the above, but I can give a few more names from an initial google search viz.
The political history of Leeward Islands is very messy. They seem to have appeared in several incarnations over the centuries, by and large between 1671 and 1960. Hi David, How are you doing? Firstly, I want to thank you for all your contributions to Wikipedia. The community is very proud of you. I observed that several admin backlogs need more attention and i like to help in this area. I will be more than glad if you can nominate me for the mob at request for adminship. Fiji Football LeagueHi Daniel, my name is Lawrence and I have seen that you have an extremely keen interest for Fiji. If you are interested, I have a new task force proposal as part of the Wikipedia Football page about Oceania football. Your help would be highly appreciated as you have some more in depth of Fiji and I also spotted you making a small edit to a page on the Port Vila Football League in August (hence how I found you). If you would like to explore this avenue a bit further, your help would be beneficial on other football league pages in need of help in the Oceania region. ThanksHi David, I want to appreciate your support and immense contributions in that thread. I appreciate the confidence you have in me and I'm deeply sorry to disappoint you. It has never occurred to me that my user page could be used against me among other concerns although some irrelevant issues where raised but I will take them as constructive criticisms. I'm one of those pile-on opposers at RfA that assumes bad faith. I think you bear some responsibility for that train wreck of an RfA. Your candidate lacks cluefullness and has created an edit history which clearly other editors balk at. I question your judgment in that you thought he was an appropriate RfA candidate. The fact that you didn't know how to transclude the nom doesn't impress me, either. Advancing the idea that the community should support adminship for an editor simply because he's a lecturer at a university is utter nonsense and you should know better. However, your own RfA was in a different era and perhaps you're not cognizant that the average expectations have changed. Please take my comments to heart. Question about adminshipI saw you were listed as someone who was willing to consider nominating candidates for adminship. I would like to know if you felt I would be worthy of a nomination, when you have a chance, and if not, where you feel I could improve to be a better candidate. Being a user and editor of Wikipedia for close to 10 years (with a few breaks thrown in), I feel that I would have a lot to offer as admin, namely patience, a level head, and the ability to help resolve conflict when needed. Hi, Signpost exit pollDear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates? If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election. All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian The questionnaireDear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.
Detailed Instructions: you are welcome to answer these questions via usertalk (easiest), or via email (for a modicum of privacy).
We do promise to try hard, not to make any mistakes, in the processing and presentation of your answers. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact column-editor GamerPro64, copy-editor 75.108.94.227, or copy-editor Ryk72. Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping Wikipedia. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy. Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas. In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you. Two-Factor Authentication now available for adminsHello, Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page PatrollersHi Davidcannon. A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right. It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best. If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! My grandfather's used Pál Hermann for his music compositions, although he also used Paul when performing as a cellist. As all that is left of him are his compositions, IMSLP and German/French/Hungarian wiki pages have accepted Pál, I would like to undo Kleuske moving of the English and Dutch wiki pages to Paul, but she refuses (see her talk page). Also there was another composer Paul Hermann (1904-1970) active in Berlin, which is what the Italian, French and German Pál Hermann wiki pages explain as disambiguation. As cruel destiny will have it, this namesake of my grandfather was a Nazi composer. My attempts to insert a similar disambituatio in the English and Dutch wiki pages have been boycotted by Kleuske as well. The sources of the name Pál Hermann are my grandfather's birthcertificate, the manuscripts of his music compositions as made accessible through IMSLP and also the recent scholarship in LA in his name and the publicity cellist Clive Greensmith gives to Hermann's cello concerto. Could you help out? Many thanks and greetings from Italy, Pvangastel. —Preceding undated comment added 08:52, 16 January 2018 (UTC) Notification of imminent suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivityFollowing a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:21, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community. Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised. We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered. For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC) Invitation to join the Fifteen Year SocietyDear Davidcannon, I'd like to extend a cordial invitation to you to join the Fifteen Year Society, an informal group for editors who've been participating in the Wikipedia project for fifteen years or more. Speaker queryHello David. I saw you were still occasionally active here, so thought you might be able to help as an expert on all things Fijian! I have a query about who was the second MP for Namosi Fijian Provincial (alongside Ifereimi Buaserau) from 1992 to 1994. According to the Fiji Elections website (which I think may be run by Girmitya?), it was Apenisa Kurisaqila. However, Kurisaqila was elected Speaker of the House shortly after the elections, and according to the 1990 constitution, the Speaker had to be elected from outside the membership of the House. Looking at the available records of debates, I cannot see any reference to a second MP from Namosi Provincial, which makes me wonder whether Kurisaqila was indeed the second MP, somehow against the rules? You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki. When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed. Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help. If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter. We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
