Hi Daniel. A while back I stumbled across the page about The singing ringing tree in Barnley, in which I also found your very good picture. I am currently writing a conference report for a university in Sweden about sound/landscape. (Its a non-profit publication for free online access in Swedish.) I would like, if possible, to incorporate your picture. So I wanted to ask if this is ok by you, and if so, how would you want to be credited?
Thank you and very best wishes from Sweden,

Hi Childzy - got your messsage - I re-instated the edits with summary explanation, and full explanation in the discussion page for 'List of Notable Fencers' entry. Thanks for your quick feedback. 216.168.238.723:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...and if you had waited 5 minutes, you would have seen the article.
No problem, I just added it again. Thanx for the extra work.
It is not about waiting 5 minutes, it is about following wikipedia guidelines, I was well within rights to revert your edits, the editing page warns that any red links added will be removed. So please keep civil in future as i am sure that i didn't burden you with any extra work. Thanks and happy editing!--Childzy ¤ Talk19:30, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since it was not red for very long (a question of minutes), I regarded the rule as followed but in a dynamic way; when I was done, there would not be any red links in the list. And if you feel threatened and insulted enough by an ironic "thanx" to throw civil at me, there is not much more to say.

Dont worry, i cant block you. I had to put up with the same thing when i was at school, the best thing for you to do is create an acount so that if the I.P is blocked you wont be affected, it also distances you from the others --Childzy ¤ Talk15:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did so, good work cleaning it up. There was very little to fix. What went on with this article before? I was confused, some I.P kept blanking the page, was quite annoying. --Childzy ¤ Talk22:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea what Peru's issue was, to be honest... he/she kept fighting with people about a copyvio. I saw a few sentences that were lifted from that site so I just rewrote it all to fix it. Peru just kept coming back anyway screaming about copyrights and ended up blocked. • Lawrence Cohen22:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well you did well fixing it up and referencing it, as I say i only made a couple of minor changes to it. I'll give it a better copy edit sometime in the near future --Childzy ¤ Talk22:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Childzy, can I get a third opinion on an editing dispute I'm having with another user on both Jean Godden and Joe Szwaja? We're certainly both partisan and I'd like more opinions and involvement of people who don't care about this election. Mikesmash04:49, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I've had a pretty good look at what has been going on. It seems this user [3] is taking issue with some of the things that arent in the article? Saying that some important things are missing. Well i have read the article and sources a bit and the article in no way what so ever fails WP:LIBEL. Everything that is in the article is well sourced and it seems "User:Landsfarthereast" is using the talk pages of article to tell you to do things to the article, dont feel obligied to listen to the guy. Just tell him WP:SOFIXIT, there is nothing stopping the user from editing the page himself. A good thing to remember is not to get stessed, you are a valuable wikipedia, you are getting things done. I left once because it got stressful. Also wikipedia is not cited as being purely factual so if "User:Landsfarthereast" has an issue the tell him/her to read [4] which explains things. If you need any more help with this edit dispute just let me know, i've just tried to outline the basics here. Hope i've been of help --Childzy ¤ Talk09:52, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. You were one of the first to contribute to this AfD. Since then, the debate has been extensive and several users have significantly enhanced the article, demonstrating cited notability (and getting rid of POV). I'd be grateful if you'd review your opinion, as I genuinely believe this to be notable. --Dweller20:42, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A standard has got to be found for these albums. Some were beginning to list every single credited person on the case, which completely fails our indiscriminate information policy. I'm toning it down the absolute basics. If a better method can be found, fine, but till then I'd suggest leaving it in minimal form. I'm frankly getting sick of the crap that tends to creep into these articles over time, and this is just one part of it. -- HuntsterT • @ • C13:00, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you there but i did add some more back, such as the drummer, bassist, choir and guest vocals. I think all of them that are now listed did play a recognizable part in the album you agree? --Childzy ¤ Talk13:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and I sorta-kinda agree with the extra personnel in that regard, to the extent of compromise. However, when we start adding individual names of a choir and programmers and such, it is a sure sign of bloat. The other question is, exactly how are some of these guests notable, other than simply being there? I'm trying to find a middle ground as many people want as much data as can be tossed in, even though I'd strongly prefer having only the primary band members listed...it is really the only unbiased way of proceeding. -- HuntsterT • @ • C15:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah i remember that it once actually listed every member of the choir which is excessive! I think guest vocalists can be considered notable as the usually play a major part in a song. We could come up with some sort of draft guideline to use at WP:Album for whom to include on the personnel section. It may prove handy --Childzy ¤ Talk15:41, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly, though even background or guest vocalists are a slippery slope. If they are considered vitally important to a song, aren't the directors and producers and compilers vitally important as well? It just seems dangerous, but it'll work for now. Personally, I like guidelines and policies, so any you want to propose over at WP:ALBUM is good with me :P -- HuntsterT • @ • C15:47, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I like guidelines as well really, it just keeps things smart tidy and encyclopedic instead of just being rambling lists of crap that end up appearing. The best thing that happened to the site was the whole thing about removing trivia, I hate trivia sections lol. But yeah I'm sure together we can come up with a basic outline of what should and shouldn't be in personnel sections. Obviously all band members should be listed. Secondly and guest vocalist should be added or are we not sure on this one yet? Thirdly and choir or backing group/singers that make a continued appearance on the album should be included. As for the producer then I'm not sure, if the article has an infobox then its always mentioned there so it needn't be written twice. What do you think? --Childzy ¤ Talk15:59, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you also deleted the 1995 civil suit that Szwaja lost in King County. Is that not relevant, either? Or the fact that he was arrested for driving with a suspended license? Also, not relevant? You're unbelievable. Are you getting paid for this?Landsfarthereast 05:38, 1 September 2007 (UTC) [6]
I have removed the {{dated prod}} tag from Lab 5 since its deletion has already being contested by an IP editor. I have also struck the warning from the IP editor's talk page as well. Removal of the {{dated prod}} tag from an article is not vandalism and should not be reverted as such unless the IP editor has an edit history that demonstrates a clear history of vandalism. Doing so would be assuming bad faith on the part of the IP editor. Ideally, the IP editor should have given a reason why he or she is contesting the deletion, but such explanations are not necessary. If you still think the article should be deleted, then take it to AfD as the next step in the deletion process. --Farix (Talk) 03:41, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was just editing the political economy page - did you have a problem with my edit? I noticed that some of the big names of international political economy had been left off and wanted to add them - what's wrong with this??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.21.34 (talk • contribs)
The way it was phrased reads like original research and the warning template above explains my actions anyway.
Robert Cox and Susan Strange are major figures in the so called 'new' or 'critical' school of international policy economy.
The problem with this is who says they are the major figures? I could say black is the new white but it doesn't mean its true, so i reverted it. All that is needed is a source but until it does it is WP:NPOV--Childzy ¤ Talk21:18, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind watchlisting this, and in several days taking a whack at it after I pore through the sourcing (or dig in yourself, if so inclined/interested)? I'm wanting to expand out this article, as there are a very large number of sources on the phenomenon. I'm worried, though, about the structure and flow of the thing, and you and Jehochman (leaving this message for them, too) are good copy-editors. I can fill it up, but I'm worried it will take me far longer than you two to potentially form it up into a readable state rather than a mere collection of facts and anecdotes. Lord knows, it took me a while on Szwaja to get my bearings... • Lawrence Cohen16:07, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!
Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold(t/a/c)01:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Image copyright problem with Image:Smrtbmb.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Smrtbmb.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
A tag has been placed on Para Todas las Putas Celosas, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Evanescence
One of the categories for the page is "list of Gothic metal bands".
And the article itself mentions outside sources referring to them as either "goth rock" and "goth metal".
And I myself think of them as a Goth band.
So, all three factors combined were the reason I identified them as "goth rock".
I've just uploaded a new version of the picture of Yatton church porch which you voted 'support' for on the Featured Picture Candidates page. Since the newest version isn't (in my opinion) substantially different to the old one, I just replaced the old file, rather than uploading it separately as 'Yatton church porch edit 2'. I thought I should inform you of this, so you have a chance to inspect the new picture and change your vote if you want. NotFromUtrecht (talk) 21:43, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

tortoise photo
Hi there. I enjoyed your giant tortoise photo, but I wanted to let you know that the species identity is incorrect. It is an Aldabra giant tortoise and not a Galapagos giant tortoise. I made the caption change on the Wiki page for tortoise (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortoise#General_information) but when you click on the photo it still mentions Galapagos tortoise. You might want to change the file name to reflect the species. Also, I went to the Galapagos giant tortoise entry and removed the photo from that page since it doesn't belong there.

Successful featured picture nomination
An image created by you has been promoted to featured picture status
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Origin (Evanescence album). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

I made an edit to the caption which User:Oda Mari reverted (see discussion on my talk page) because I had not added an edit summary nor was the image file name commensurate with the modified caption. Would you be so kind as to make the appropriate changes? Thanks, HLogicNet (talk) 12:08, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Orphaned non-free media (File:13sencesfollowme.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:13sencesfollowme.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:37, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412T02:06, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
