Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Mutharika.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Martin H. (talk) 07:42, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your new category

Regarding Category:Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metropolitan area, I think it might be easier from a categorization standpoint if you just put Category:Communities in Orange County, New York in that one as a subcategory, since the MSA includes the whole county (Is Ulster in it too? If so, a long time ago I also created Category:Communities in Ulster County, New York to depopulate the county cat there, and that would go in as well.

As for Dutchess, the county-level cat is not full enough yet to depopulate that way but there are already a number of community-specific categories in it that you could put in as subcats until we (well, since I'm the person primarily responsible for it, I) decide to have a "Communities in Dutchess County, New York" category.

Ideally, I think, the MSA category would have no other categories in it, and you could probably better serve the navigational function by creating a list article, "Communities in the Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metropolitan area" for WP:HVNY, and then linking to it from the "see also" section.

The reason I suggest this is that creating a category that by definition includes articles on all the settlements already categorized under two or three counties and nothing more would probably fail a CFD as mostly overlapping (Categorizing the categories that way though would, I think, be OK). The information is hardly trivial and definitely useful, but I think a category in each article is a little too much. (There's also a line for this in both the regular city infobox and the geobox variant (which I like more). Daniel Case (talk) 20:55, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: Oh, you already have an article on the MSA. OK. I added that to the HV project. Thanks. Daniel Case (talk) 20:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Gnassingbe Eyadema.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Gnassingbe Eyadema.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Lima-VanWert-WapakonetaCSA.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris 05:39, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Abdallah Ali Abdallah

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Abdallah Ali Abdallah, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

winning 0.11 percent of an election doth not notability make

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Proposed deletion of Wellborn, Texas

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Wellborn, Texas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Unnotable unincorporated community. A few minor mentions in local sources (which are therefore non-thirdparty) is not enough to meet WP:N, and its lack of status as a city or town does not make it "automatically" notable. Its having a zipcode also does not make it notable, many unincorporated communities and suburbs do.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Zanzibari heads of government

Hi, I noticed you did most of the work for the List of heads of government of Zanzibar. But I disagree with the title; strictly speaking (i.e. according to both the Zanzibar and Tanzanian constitutions) the President of Zanzibar is the head of government. The Chief minister is appointed by the president to run day-to-day things. Also, the list is short enough to be included in an article, so I was considered moving this list to Chief minister of Zanzibar, and adding some more information there. What do you think? This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Panola, Texas, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.panolacountytexas.us. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Panola, Texas. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. MLauba (talk) 10:55, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Striking this, I apparenly have used the wrong warning. This was meant for copyvio problems. Hello again,
Considering your statement on my talk page, I am a bit surprised to find yet again multiple sentences copied verbatim from the Handbook of Texas in Willow City, Texas. I just realized I completely screwed up the warning I put up here earlier, and fully understand now why a warning for edit warring might have sounded bewildering. I apologize for that.
However, I believe that you may be misunderstanding when using direct quotes from a copyrighted source is permissible and appropriate on Wikipedia. Quotes can be used, extremely sparingly, to illustrate a specific point, for instance, if someone famous had visited Willow City and wrote a statement about it, quoting and attributing it to that person would possibly be a legitimate use.
Building the descriptive part of the article, in this case the history section, on sentences lifted wholesale is however not a legitimate use. WP:Quotations has more lengthy explanations of how and when you can use quoted material.
That being said, I also have to add a more formal part to this message. I do not doubt you acted in good faith so far, and that such copying has not been done out of malice. You are more than welcome to bring any questions to me, or more widely, at WT:CP for instance. But if this happens again in the future, your editing privileges will have to be removed. Which would be a shame. MLauba (talk) 17:10, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hobson, Texas

Hi. The history section of Hobson, Texas will need rewriting, as it contains text copied and very closely paraphrased from two sources. I have put specifics on the article's talk page. Just to provide a single example here, your sentence, "It was possibly named Castine because of its early settlers were of French descent and for its elevation; it was referred to as 'French Heights' in the early records of Karnes County" differs from the one used at your source only by the addition of the words "of" and "early". This is not permitted under Wikipedia's copyright policies.I'm afraid that we are not able to use previously published text without completely rewriting it in our words unless it is public domain or compatibly licensed with CC-By-SA. While we can incorporate a few brief, clearly marked quotations from copyrighted sources in accordance with WP:NFC, we can't simply copy from our sources, even with some minimal arrangement.

I have blanked the section with the copyright template and listed the article at the copyright problem board to give you time either to rewrite this completely in your own language or to verify permission. See donating copyrighted materials. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:55, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed all of the content from this page except for the first two sentences so I will no longer be accused of copyright infringement. I can't believe how my work is being singled-out today. --Acntx (talk) 00:11, 7 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Once a copyright problem is detected, it's necessary to look to see if other issues exist. If you have not understood that you could not place content from other sources on Wikipedia without verifying permission, I'm afraid there's a chance that you may have placed content in other articles that will need to be repaired. This isn't personal, but essential to protect the project from potential legal liability. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:15, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If a copyright issue is found with any other pages that I have created, I don't want to even waste my time trying to fix it just to run the possibility of being back in this situation again. As I also said on the Hobson, Texas talk page, Its nothing you said, I am just frustrated that this keeps happening, especially after I have spent months creating these articles with no copyright issues having ever been raised. --Acntx (talk) 00:39, 7 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Have you changed your approach to reusing text? If not, it's possible that there are older issues that were not noticed. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:42, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't think that anything changed, but I'll go back and re-examine them. --Acntx (talk) 00:50, 7 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

←That could be helpful, thanks. I've only been able to glance at your back catalog, but it's obvious that you've put a lot of time and effort and good improvements into Wikipedia. I'm sure that it is frustrating and dismaying to suddenly have something like this pop up. We just need to figure out if there are other articles that are likely to be a problem, so we can address those, and to be sure that you've got a good understanding of copyright policy going forward. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:04, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've cooled down now and apologize if I sounded combative earlier. I will try my hardest to create articles that are acceptable and meet all necessary guidelines. --Acntx (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Seychelles district maps

Hi friend, nice work you did on the Seychelles district maps. However I believe three of them are wrong: File:SC-Mont Fleuri.png File:SC-Les Mamelles.png File:SC-Roche Caiman.png. Sainte Anne Islands and the other islands of the Sainte Anne Marine National Park are not Mamelles District, they belong to Mont Fleuri District instead. Mammelles District is the interior part of what you show as Roche Caiman District. This is what I gather from here and there and other sources. I am looking forward to your corrections. Greetings, --Ratzer (talk) 21:54, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article David Farhat has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability has not been established. This person was never elected to any office.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Miguel Trovoada.png

Thanks for uploading File:Miguel Trovoada.png.

Thank you. NBS (talk) 22:08, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Margaret Tor-Thompson. Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Margaret Tor-Thompson. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

maps of Guinea Bissau

Hi Acntx, if I'm not mistaken, you are the creator of this map of Guinea Bissao, and possibly others. May I ask you what source you used to draw the region boundaries? On your map, the Bolana Region includes a piece of the mainland. The current official map, however, allocates this piece of land to neighboring Quinara Region. Possible, the border has changed recently. In this case, may I ask you to update your map(s)?--Ratzer (talk) 15:54, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I made this map back in 2005 and honestly don't remember where I obtained it from. I originally uploaded the image to Wikipedia and it has since been modified by others and moved to the Commons. I looked at the links you provided and I noticed the difference. I am unsure if any boundary changes have taken place since then, but I did check this site, which is pretty up to date on subdivision changes across the world. It states that the last boundary change in Guinea-Bissau occurred in 1990.
The following links are to several maps of Guinea-Bissau's regions. All of them show the mainland piece as belonging to the Bolama Region.
I'm really torn over whether the map should be replaced because the source you provided does come from a Guinea-Bissau government agency, but no other source that I have been able to locate shows that change. If after reading this message and reviewing the links, you think the map should be updated, I'll upload a new image to the Commons. Just let me know. Thanks. --Acntx (talk) 20:21, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm also not certain anymore which version is correct and current. The statoids page on sectors of Guinea-Bissau does note some changes on the sector level in 2004 and 2007, whereby the Bolama region is affected by the splitting of Uno sector from Caravelo sector, but it is silent about a possible change regarding the (former?) mainland portion of Bolama region. On the other hand, two maps produced by user Rarelibra in September of 2006 shows the mainland pice in Quinara region, while at the same time the first one (the Bolama sector map) does not reflect the 2004 splitting of Uno sector. If I find out more about the current situation, I shall report it here.--Ratzer (talk) 16:08, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just sent an e-mail to the statistical office of Guinea-Bissau at inec@mail.gtelecom.gw: ...may I ask you kindly about information whether the coastal strip around the town of São João belongs to Bolama region or to Quinara region. Has there been any change in that matter recently? I even got it translated to Portugese with Babelfish. Let's see if they answer.--Ratzer (talk) 18:12, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I hope they respond as well. Its a very confusing situation. Keep me informed and sorry for the delayed response. --Acntx (talk) 02:45, 23 March 2010 (UTC).[reply]
I already received two warning messages that the mail could not be delivered: "The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect" (which probably means that the domain doesn't have up-to-date MX records or is otherwise misconfigured, or is experiencing temporary networking problems, not surprising in a poor country with little and fragile infrastructure). But I also wrote a mail to Gwillim Law, who runs the Statoids page, and asked him if he has any information on that matter. Greetings,--Ratzer (talk) 07:35, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:KM-Grande Comore-Koimbani.png.

You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:40, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:07, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're the uploader of the flag above. Can you add some sources you used to create it. For me it seems much simplyfied, because in that time nor the central nor the rebel governments had real control over their territory, so is not the best way the colorize the provinces. Also important is a date, because the territorys changed rapidly.--Antemister (talk) 16:06, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry for the delayed response. I wanted to let you know that I updated the file with sources and a link to the original image that the map is based on. Thanks. --Acntx (talk) 23:21, 31 July 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Bukar Ibrahim.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bukar Ibrahim.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:38, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Acntx! Do you mind if I submit some photo requests to you?

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Buyoya.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Buyoya.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:40, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Opportunity to comment on Batavia

There is a discussion starting up at Talk:Batavia (disambiguation), that may be of interest to you. The subject is technically a page move discussion, but the purpose of the discussion is to decide where Batavia should redirect. Until earlier today, Batavia redirected to History of Jakarta, but during this discussion, it is redirecting to Batavia (disambiguation). Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for your help. HuskyHuskie (talk) 22:41, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

  • editors who are blocked
  • anonymous IP editors
  • editors who, despite ranking in the top three of edits to an article, have only a single edit to said article

This is an attempt to be a neutrally-phrased posting in keeping with the principles of WP:CANVASS. If you find anything in the wording or the manner posted to be a violation of that guideline, please notify me at my talk page.

Replaceable fair use File:Silveira.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Silveira.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please remove the tag.

Thank you. Hekerui (talk) 15:51, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Ntibantunganya.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ntibantunganya.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Orphaned non-free media (File:Minyardlogo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Minyardlogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Population table for Richland, Texas in Navarro County.

I updated the population info to the 2010 number. I did the same for Rice. The historical population table you added to the page caught my eye. The numbers did not look right. [1] hows the 2000 population as 291. Your table has it at 798. [2] also show the 2000 pop. at 291 and also has the 1990 pop. as 244 (the table has it at 564). I could not find the correct numbers for the other years. It looks like you mistakingly put the Rice, Texas numbers on the Richland, Texas page. I figure you'd want to correct this. If not, can you tell me where you got your numbers and I'll correct it.Jdtrue63 (talk) 08:56, 12 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Adamu Mu'azu has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Throckmorton ISD

In 2018, the school district changed names. I've updated the name to Throckmorton Collegiate Independent School District and updated the name on incoming article pages, but the school district page and high school's pages may be out of date in other ways.

I have not renamed the high school page. It's unclear if there is now one high school, named "Throckmorton Collegiate High School", or if there are two, that one and the Early College High School[1]. My best guess is that the "Early College High School" is either a program within the high school or a "school within a school" similar to some magnet schools that share a campus and some classes with a "neighborhood" non-magnet school. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:24, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
