Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Devadoothan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Murali. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Poster uploads

Why are you overwriting posters with those of different movies? See WP:Upload. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:18, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've too have noticed you've been overwriting lots of files lately. While this isn't something specifically prohibited by WP:IUP per se, it's not something that's recommended practice. Each file uploaded to Wikipedia requires two things per WP:IUP#Required information: information about its provenance and a copyright license. When you overwrite a file but don't update any of the information related to it, it becomes hard to verify the copyright information of the new "updated" version. Improperly overwriting non-free files can also a problem because Wikipedia's non-free content use policy requires that older unused versions of a non-free file be deleted per non-free content use criterion #7. So, when you overwrite an existing non-free file with something that's completely different, the older unused version becomes eligible for speedy deletion per speedy deletion criterion F5. This is why overwriting a file for reasons other than really minor changes (e.g. minor resizing) is typically discouraged, especially when the new version is a completely different file from the originally uploaded version. In such cases, it's better to upload the "updated" version as a new separate file instead. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:31, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Marchjuly, he's not stopping, let alone listening. What do we do? Kailash29792 (talk) 12:35, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: I've asked an administrator to take a look at this. It's most likely just a misunderstanding about uploading files, but you should be careful to avoid anything that might be seen as edit warring when reverting. Things will eventually get sorted out; so, please be patient. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:25, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AADITH KRISHNA: While I'm sure you mean well, you might want to stop overwriting files for the time being until things can be sorted out. You're just potentially creating another thing that might need to be cleaned up every time you overwrite a file. If you feel an existing poster needs to be replaced with a new updated version, perhaps it would be better to be WP:CAUTIOUS and discuss the change on the relevant article's talk page first. If a consensus is established in favor of changing the poster, a "new" version could then be uploaded. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:25, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free content use policy and file size

Wikipedia's non-free content use policy requires that non-free content use be kept to a minimum as much as possible; this includes the size and resolution of non-free files as explained in WP:IMAGERES. For this reason, there are WP:BOTs that go around checking non-free files to make sure they're sized appropriately for Wikipedia purposes. So, a bot reducing non-free files like File:L2 - Empuraan poster.jpg is just doing what it's been tasked to do by its operator, and the bot's edits shouldn't be reverted without a really good policy-based reason for doing so. If you weren't aware of any of this, then that's OK; just try to keep this in mind for future reference with respect to non-free content size. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:46, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello AADITH KRISHNA, I have temporarily blocked your ability to upload files, as I notice you are edit warring over non-free files. Also you are overlaying files with something nothing to do with the earlier picture, and you are not explaining why your new image is appropriate or where it comes from. Please read and understand Wikipedia:Non-free content. You may explain what you will do to avoid these problems below. And if it appears that there will be no more problems, I can then unblock.
