Joining the Dream SMP caused his YouTube and Twitch channels to increase in popularity.[6] As of 24 April 2023[update], his eleven YouTube channels have collectively reached over 27.74 million subscribers[a] and over 2.82 billion views;[b][7] his two Twitch channels have reached over 9.02 million followers,[c] making him the most-followed Minecraft channel on Twitch,[8] as well as the 17th most-followed overall.[9][10]
Early life
Thomas Michael Simons[8][11][12] was born in Nottingham, England[13] on 9 April 2004[14] to Iain and Sarah Simons. His father is a former arcade owner and the founder of the GameCity festival, and now works with Thomas. His mother is a former actor, and is now a teacher for people with disabilities.[15] While in secondary school, Simons reportedly cheated on some of his mock examinations. The COVID-19 pandemic caused these grades to be counted as his official GCSE grades, as well as some of his lower grades to be rounded up to be significantly higher.[16]

Simons created his first YouTube channel, Channelnutpig, on 15 February 2013[17] and his TommyInnit channel on 24 December 2015.[18] He uploaded his first video on his TommyInnit channel in September 2018.[19] Simons typically uploads videos consisting of him playing Minecraft. Simons began streaming on Twitch in late 2018, where he regularly streams Minecraft and "Just Chatting".
On 20 January 2021, Simons live streamed the finale of the Dream SMP, titled The Dream SMP Finale, which peaked at over 650,000 viewers, making it the third-highest all-time concurrent viewer livestream on Twitch, overtaking Ninja's Fortnite collaboration with Drake.[23][24][25] His streaming ventures would then earn him two Guinness World Records,[8] claimed with the help of content creator Jack Welsh for "most viewers of a Minecraft gameplay live stream on Twitch" and "most followed Minecraft channel on Twitch".
In 2023, Simons, along with fellow Twitch streamers and YouTubers Wilbur Soot, Philza, Slimecicle, and Ranboo, briefly started a new comedy group YouTube channel called The Sorry Boys.[26]

Soon after, he began doing United Kingdom and United States tours as well as speaking to comedians and being mentored by Daniel Sloss. As well as this, he began doing open mics and started getting more into stand-up comedy, beginning to pursue his career into comedy.[41][42] On 19 November, Simons announced the Tommyinnit: The Survival Tour, his first tour as a stand-up comedian, he is planning to tour the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.[43]

The book was released on 13 October 2022.[44] All of the sales money from the book is being donated to Sarcoma UK in honour of Simons' and Gold's late friend Technoblade,[45] to whom the book was also dedicated.[46][47]
