jschlatt (born 1999),[2][3] also known popularly as Schlatt, is an American YouTuber, Twitch streamer, entrepreneur, podcaster, and singer. He is best known for his variety of online content, including gaming, vlogging, reactions, skits, and music covers.[4] Schlatt is the current owner of GamerSupps, an energy supplement company targeted at gamers;[5][better source needed] and a former co-owner of One True King, a gaming and online content organization.[6]
As of September 2024, Schlatt has a combined following of over 10 million subscribers on YouTube[a] and nearly 3 million combined followers on Twitch.[b]
Internet career
2013–2018: Beginnings
Schlatt began creating YouTube videos in 2013, recording Call of Duty gameplay videos alongside his friends.[7] In July 2013, the original jschlatt channel was created, with his first video being uploaded the following year. His content primarily consisted of video essays covering various topics of interest, including astronomy, technology, music, gaming, and memes. On February 6, 2018, Schlatt uploaded a 27-second meme video titled "elon r u ok", an abridged recap of Elon Musk's highly-publicized ventures. It would quickly become his most viewed video and catalyze his career.[8][5]
2018–present: Streaming & OTK
Schlatt began streaming in June 2018, playing a variety of games,[9] notably Cities: Skylines and Minecraft. On March 1, 2019, Schlatt was invited to SMPLive, a private Minecraft server. Streaming on the server grew his internet presence greatly, earning him hundreds of thousands of new followers and subscribers.[10][11]
Schlatt concealed his face until the climax of his SMPLive series. He revealed his face after defeating the final boss of Minecraft in a video uploaded to the jschlattLIVE channel on September 26, 2019.[12]
In December 2019, Schlatt began an unannounced hiatus from streaming[13] which ended on December 16, 2021, with the release of a video titled "i'm quitting youtube", in which he announced his return to streaming.[14][15]
In 2021, Schlatt joined the online content organization One True King as a co-owner, appearing in various videos and livestreams hosted by the organization.[16] He left the organization in 2022 to pursue personal goals.[17]
On March 21, 2021, Schlatt uploaded a Jackbox Party Pack gameplay video that drew criticism online. The thumbnail included a crudely drawn cartoon face, shaded with black scribbles and labeled "blackface". In response to the backlash, the thumbnail was updated to a similarly crude drawing, now depicting the Twitter logo and labeled "Dumb Bird".[18] Similar criticism was lodged against Schlatt later that year when a tweet from 2018 resurfaced, in which Schlatt replied to a selfie of Twitch streamer Scott Fisher, commenting "the face of allah".[19]

On September 28, 2022, Schlatt and Ludwig Ahgren created the YouTube channel Lud and Schlatts Musical Emporium, a collaborative project aimed at providing royalty-free recordings of famous classical compositions, as well as original, Nintendo-inspired music for use in content creation.[20][21][22]

On November 7, 2024, Schlatt released a cover of the Christmas song "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" and announced the beginning of work on his debut Christmas album, A Very 1999 Christmas.[25][26] The album was created with the help of saxophonist Tom Scott, a former member of The Blues Brothers, to arrange the music sheets. The full album was recorded at The Sound Factory in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Following the worldwide blocking of the cover on YouTube, Schlatt released his second single, "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", on November 21, 2024.[27][28] The album, which includes Schlatt's first two singles as well as six other classic Christmas songs, officially released on December 1, 2024.[29]

Schlatt has hosted a number of online and in-person podcasts throughout his career, most notably Chuckle Sandwich, which he co-hosted with fellow YouTubers Ted Nivison and formerly Slimecicle;[30] and Did Schlatt Win? (stylized in all caps), both with a rotating cast of guests.[31]
