BoBoiBoy Movie 2
BoBoiBoy Movie 2 is a 2019 Malaysian animated superhero comedy film produced by Animonsta Studios. Directed by Nizam Razak, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Anas Abdul Aziz, it is the standalone sequel to BoBoiBoy: The Movie (2016) and a follow-up to the first season of the series BoBoiBoy Galaxy. The film follows BoBoiBoy and his friends as they fight an ancient villain named Retak’ka, who plans to absorb BoBoiBoy's elemental powers. BoBoiBoy Movie 2 was simultaneously released in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore on 8 August 2019. The Vietnamese dub of the film was released in Vietnam on 30 August 2019.[3] A sequel, BoBoiBoy Movie 3: Gur'latan, is slated for release in 2026.[4] PlotGopal and BoBoiBoy try to retrieve a Power Sphere among a penguin monster's eggs. Gopal accidentally drops the Power Sphere, causing it to be nabbed by Adu Du and Probe, but Fang and Yaya manage to rescue it. BoBoiBoy rescues Adu Du and Probe before leaving. In space, illegal miners discover an alien within a crystal. He introduces himself as Retak'ka, the first master of the elements and escapes with a fragment of his powers, ordering them to help him locate BoBoiBoy and TAPOPS for more crystals. BoBoiBoy and his friends land at Tok Aba's Kokotiam where Papa Zola meets his daughter with Mama Zila, Pipi Zola. BoBoiBoy invites Fang for dinner at Aba's home whereas the Zolas and Gopal guard the Power Sphere they brought along, EggaBot, from Adu Du and Probe, carrying Pipi aboard. In an emergency transmission, Koko Ci orders them to go to planet Quabaq as Retak'ka attacks the TAPOPS station, which BoBoiBoy has Ochobot take them to. He confronts Retak'ka, who absorbs the Solar, Thunderstorm, Cyclone and Thorn elements from BoBoiBoy. Gopal rescues BoBoiBoy before Ochobot takes them to Quabaq, while Koko Ci tells them to find Hang Kasa. Captain Kaizo evacuates Fang, Yaya, Ying, Koko Ci and Tarung from the station. BoBoiBoy and Ochobot scramble to retrieve the message before evacuating the sinking ship. They are ambushed by Kang Kongs, sloth monsters passive towards light. BoBoiBoy tries to fend them off using Blaze since Retak'ka stole his Solar element, until another figure rescues them. The next morning, the figure reveals himself as Hang Kasa and offers to prepare them against Retak'ka. Kaizo and Fang discover that Retak'ka killed all of Planet Gur'latan's guards in his conquest to absorb energy from several planets to strengthen his elements. Tracing the miners to planet Bayugan, where Retak'ka plans to upgrade his Wind element, Ying warns the inhabitants of the threat. The miners discover BoBoiBoy on Quabaq, allowing Retak'ka to absorb the nearby planet Rimbara and capture Fang, Yaya and Ying while they evacuate the local aliens. BoBoiBoy and Gopal are forced to pay Hang Kasa training fees, so he claims Quake as debt and traps them in crystal. The Zolas, Adu Du and Probe discover that Kasa fixed Ochobot's databank in his house, revealing that Koko Ci told them to look for Kasa to find a way to defeat Retak'ka. Kasa reveals that he was the original master of the Crystal element and Retak'ka's former friend; it was Retak'ka who discovered him on the landfill planet of Gugura, where they first gained elemental powers. Retak'ka stole five more elements and desired Kasa's Crystal power, so he drained his elements through Ochobot, sealing him within the crystal. Retak'ka arranges to meet at Earth, which contains the elements he needs. Kasa arrives to fight Retak'ka, while Pipi breaks BoBoiBoy and Gopal free with EggaBot. BoBoiBoy intercepts Retak'ka with Blaze, and Gopal joins the fight with Ochobot. The Zolas, Adu Du and Probe rescue Fang, Yaya and Ying and fend off the miners. While Retak'ka prepares to finish off BoBoiBoy, Kasa insists on returning Quake to BoBoiBoy and takes the hit, encouraging him to stop Retak'ka who then absorbs his Crystal element. Realizing splitting makes him weaker, BoBoiBoy fuses his Frost and Fire elements into one. Gopal throws Ochobot towards BoBoiBoy, allowing him to drain Quake from Retak'ka while Fang, Yaya and Ying arrive. Refusing to accept defeat, Retak'ka explodes a nearby dam. BoBoiBoy drains the rest of Retak'ka's elements and blasts him to space, before falling unconscious into the river, prompting the rest of the crew to rescue him. The crew recuperates at a field hospital set up at the dam by the rescued aliens, identified as the Cendawa tribe, who also oversee the rebuilding. Kasa acknowledges BoBoiBoy as the new master of the elements. In a post-credits scene, Maskmana gives his Power Sphera, ArmoBot, to Amato for repair, asking if he should be helping BoBoiBoy. Cast

ProductionThe film's director Nizam Razak stated that the process of filmmaking for this second film is faster than the first film and only took a year to be finished. Animonsta enforced a 12-month deadline to see if they could make a film without jeopardising the story or the quality of the animation.[5] He admitted there was pressure in completing the movie on time but his production team of 100 people managed to do so within that time. They used better technology such as Redshift and comprehensive simulation method[6] even though the cost would be higher to give the best quality to the audience.[7] If the reaction to this film is positive, they plan to make movies consistently, with a new film every year or every one-and-a-half years.[5] Music
The official song for the film, "Fire & Water", is written and performed by Faizal Tahir, after Animonsta Studios approached him. He described the opportunity to sing the theme song as a platform to approach young fans.[8] Its official lyric video was released on 27 June 2019[9] and the music video was released on 26 July 2019.[10] The iTunes release came on 2 August 2019, alongside all songs in his latest album, Rojak. ReleaseBefore the release of BoBoiBoy: The Movie in 2016, Nizam Razak stated that they already have their ideas for the second film.[11] Initially, this would be the first Malaysian film to be released simultaneously in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, and Vietnam. However, the Vietnamese release was postponed to 30 August in order to allow time to produce a full Vietnamese dub version.[12] For the Indonesian market, it is distributed by CBI Pictures while for the Vietnamese market, the film is distributed by CGV Cinemas and Mani Entertainment.[13] There were requests to release the film in Thailand and the Philippines, as well as plans to target South Korea, India and China for future releases.[14] Comic adaptationThis movie has been adapted into a comic titled BoBoiBoy Movie 2: Evolusi Kuasa. Reception
Animonsta Studios targets the film to collect more than the first film (RM15.70 million) as the number of cinemas that show this film is higher. The film collected the biggest-grossing local animation film on its first day, raking in RM1.18 million. It achieved its target by overtaking the first movie after eight days, collecting RM15.80 million. In 18 days, the film collected RM25 million within three weeks. It overtook Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal (2019) to become the fourth highest-grossing local film in Malaysia and the highest-grossing animation film in Malaysia, including all local and international animation films, after collecting RM27.70 million for 26 days. However, the title of the highest-grossing animation film in Malaysia was later taken by Ejen Ali: The Movie and Frozen II, which respectively grossed RM 30.8 million and RM 41.67 million. In 70 days, BoBoiBoy Movie 2 reached RM30 million (US$7.4 million) in Malaysia, and in Brunei, Singapore and Vietnam with RM29.57 million (US$7.3 million), becoming the third highest-grossing local film within Malaysia at that time.[2] Awards and nominations
