Oprah's Book Club

Oprah's Book Club adalah segmen diskusi buku dalam talkshow The Oprah Winfrey Show, membahas buku-buku yang dipilih oleh Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey memulai acara ini pada tahun 1996, menyeleksi satu buku baru, biasanya sebuah novel, yang didiskusikan dan dibaca setiap bulan.[1] Segmen ini berakhir setelah ditayangkan selama lima belas tahun, seiring berakhirnya Oprah Winfrey Show, 25 Mei 2011.[1][2][3] Total buku yang didiskusikan dalam acara ini mencapai 70 buku, selama 15 tahun.

Karena diskusi buku ini semakin populer, beberapa judul buku yang awalnya kurang terkenal menjadi buku terlaris, meningkat penjualannya, bahkan ada yang mencapai beberapa juta eksemplar; peristiwa ini, secara luas disebut sebagai efek Oprah.[4] Al Greco, seorang profesor marketik dari Fordham University memperkirakan total penjualan dari 69 "edisi Oprah" mencapai 55 juta eksemplar.[1]

Diskusi buku ini juga pernah diisi dengan pembahasan buku-buku sastra kontroversial, antara lain novel The Corrections karya Jonathan Franzen yang pernah dipilih oleh Winfrey,[1] dan memoar karya James Frey, A Million Little Pieces, seleksi tahun 2005, yang dibajak.[1] Kontroversi berikutnya terjadi pada Frey dan penerbit Nan Talese yang berkonfrontasi dan dipermalukan oleh Winfrey dalam sebuah "pujian" yang ditayangkan secara langsung dalam acara Winfrey.[5]

Pada hari Jumat, 1 Juni 2012, Oprah mengumumkan merilis acara Oprah's Book Club 2.0 bersama Wild oleh Cheryl Strayed. Versi baru dari Oprah's Book Club, proyek bersama antara OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network dan O: The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, akan menggabungkan beberapa platform media sosial dan pembaca.
