Mary Beth Hurt (lahir 26 September 1946)[1] adalah aktris panggung dan film berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat.[2] Namanya dikenal ketika dinominasikan selama tiga kali menerima penghargaan Tony Award.[3] Beberapa film yang melibatkan dirinya antara lain Interiors (1978), The World According to Garp (1982), The Age of Innocence (1993), dan Six Degrees of Separation (1993). Dia juga berkolaboraisi dengan suaminya, sineas Paul Schrader, dalam beberapa film di antaranya Light Sleeper (1992) dan Affliction (1997).
Kehidupan awal
Hurt lahir dengan nama Mary Supinger tahun 1946 di Marshalltown, Iowa, puteri dari Delores Lenore (née Andre) dan Forrest Clayton Supinger.[4] Pengasuh semasa kecilnya adalah aktris Jean Seberg, juga berasal dari Marshalltown, Hurt belajar drama di University of Iowa dan New York University's Graduate Acting Program di Tisch School of the Arts. Karier
Hurt mengawali debut keaktrisan di panggung pertunjukan di New York pada tahun 1974. Hurt dinominasikan selama tiga kali dalam Tony Awards atas penampilannya di Teater Broadway dalam naskah Trelawny of the Wells, Crimes of the Heart (for which she won an Obie) dan Benefactors.
Seangkan debutnya di dunia perfilman, Hurt memulai saat bermain dalam film drama arahan Woody Allen berjudul Interiors sebagai Joey. Peran-peran di film lainnya antaralain sebagai Laura dalam Chilly Scenes of Winter; Helen Holm Garp dalam The World According to Garp; dan sebagai Regina Beaufort dalam film garapan Martin Scorsese berjudul The Age of Innocence. Hurt juga menyulih suara karakter Jean Seberg dalam film dokumenter karya Mark Rappaport tahun 1995 berjudul From the Journals of Jean Seberg.
Hurt dinominasikan dalam Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female untuk penampilannya dalam film produksi tahun 2006 berjudul The Dead Girl dan juga dinominasikan oleh BAFTA, Drama Desk dan meraih penghargaan Obie Award atas perannya dalam Crimes of the Heart (1981).
Kehidupan pribadi
Hurt menikah dengan aktor William Hurt sejak 1971 sampai 1981. Setelah pernikahan itu selesai di ujung perceraian, dia menikah kembali dengan penulis skenario/sineas Paul Schrader tahun 1983. Mereka memiliki seorang puteri dan putera.
