Myrmarachne рід павуків-стрибунів , які формою тіла та поведінкою імітують мурах . Назва походить від давньогрецьких слів myrmex — мураха і arachne — павук . Рід містить понад 200 видів , переважно з тропіків .
Головогруди видовжені, часто з перетяжками, як і черевце . Хеліцери виступають вперед, особливо у самців. Забарвлення тіла від чорного до жовтого, в залежності від забарвлення виду мурах, які імітуються.[ 1]
Порівняння павука роду Myrmarachne (ліворуч) і робочої особини мурахи (праворуч).
Рухаються подібно до мурах, імітуючи тремтінням передніх ніг антени комах . Вважають, що така поведінка разом із забарвленням рятує павуків від поїдання хижаками [ 2]
Зустрічаються в тропічній Африці , Азії , Австралії . Декілька видів є в Новому Світі та в помірній зоні Євразії . Особливо багатою на види є Південно-Східна Азія . З України відомий вид Myrmarachne formicaria [ 3]
Один з найбагатіших родів павуків-стрибунів, який містить більше 200 (за деякими даними до 227[ 4]
