พรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่น (ญี่ปุ่น: 民主党; โรมาจิ: Minshutō; ทับศัพท์: มินชูโต; อังกฤษ: Democratic Party of Japan, DPJ) เป็นพรรคการเมืองสายกลาง^[1] ถึงซ้ายกลาง^[2]^[3] อุดมการณ์เสรีนิยม^[4] หรือสังคม-เสรีนิยม^[5] ของญี่ปุ่นระหว่าง ค.ศ. 1998 ถึง 2016 ซึ่งมีขนาดใหญ่เป็นอันดับ 2 รองจากพรรคเสรีประชาธิปไตย หรือแอลดีพี

ประวัติ

พรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่นก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 27 เมษายน ค.ศ. 1998 โดยเกิดจากการยุบรวมพรรคทั้งหมด 4 พรรคเข้าด้วยกัน อันมีพรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่นเป็นแกนนำ

ในการเลือกตั้งทั่วไปเมื่อ ค.ศ. 2009 พรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่นซึ่งนำโดยยูกิโอะ ฮาโตยามะ สามารถเอาชนะพรรคเสรีประชาธิปไตย แล้วได้เป็นแกนนำจัดตั้งรัฐบาล โดยมีฮาโตยามะเป็นนายกรัฐมนตรี แต่ในการเลือกตั้งทั่วไปเมื่อ ค.ศ. 2012 พรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่นได้พ่ายแพ้แก่พรรคเสรีประชาธิปไตยทำให้ทางพรรคต้องกลับมาเป็นพรรคฝ่ายค้านอีกครั้ง

วันที่ 27 มีนาคม ค.ศ. 2016 พรรคประชาธิปไตยญี่ปุ่นได้ทำการยุบรวมพรรคเข้ากับพรรคนวัตกรรมญี่ปุ่นหรือเจไอพี พรรคฝ่ายค้านอันดับ 3 ของญี่ปุ่น โดยใช้ชื่อพรรคใหม่นี้ว่าพรรคประชาธิปไตย
