New York Dolls boli americká hard rocková hudobná skupina, ktorá bola založená v roku 1971 v New Yorku. Spolu s kapelami The Velvet Underground a The Stooges patrili k prvým kapelám punk rockovej hudobnej scény.[2] V čase vzniku boli v zostave skupiny New York Dolls: spevák David Johansen, gitarista Johnny Thunders, basgitarista Arthur Kane, gitarista a hráč na klávesové nástroje Sylvain Sylvain a na bicie nástroje s nimi hral Jerry Nolan. Posledných dvoch v roku 1972 nhradili Rick Rivets a Billy Murcia.[3] Podľa vyjadrení v Encyklopédii populárnej hudby (Encyclopedia of Popular Music), patrí skupina New York Dolls k zakladateľom hnutí punku a glam metalu, a boli „jednou z najvplyvnejších rockových hudobných skupín posledných 20 rokov“.[3]
Napriek tomu, že sa prvá zostava kapely rýchlo rozpadla ich dva prvé albumy New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974) sa stali jednými z najpopulárnejších kultových nahrávok rokenrolu.[1] Kapela New York Dolls ovplyvnila skupiny ako Sex Pistols, Kiss, the Ramones, Guns N' Roses, The Damned, a The Smiths, ktorej frontman Morrissey zorganizoval nové spojenie na vystúpení členov kapely, ktorí sa dožili roku 2004.[4] Po novom spojení kapely jej členovia nahrali a vydali tri ďalšie albumy: One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This (2006), Cause I Sez So (2009), and Dancing Backward in High Heels (2011).[1]
