അമേരിക്കൻ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ മനഃശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് ബഞ്ചമിൻ സാമുവൽ ബ്ലൂം (21 ഫെബ്രുവരി 1913 – 13 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 1999). ബ്ലൂമും സഹപ്രവർത്തകരും കൂടി അനേകവർഷങ്ങളായി നടത്തിയ പഠനങ്ങളിലൂടെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസോദ്ദേശ്യങ്ങളെ ശാസ്ത്രീയമായി അപഗ്രഥിക്കുകയും വിശദീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബ്ലൂമിന്റെ ടാക്സോണമി ഒഫ് എഡ്യൂക്കേഷണൽ ഓബ്ജകറ്റീവ്സ് (Taxonomy of Educational Objectives) ആണ് ഉദ്ദേശ്യാധിഷ്ഠിതബോധനത്തിന് ആധാരമായ മുഖ്യഗ്രന്ഥം.[1]

ഉദ്ദേശ്യങ്ങളെ മൂന്നു മണ്ഡലങ്ങളായിട്ടാണ് ബ്ലൂം തരംതിരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നുത് .ഇതിനെ ബ്ലൂമിൻറെ വർഗീകരണം എന്നു പറയുന്നു.സംജ്ഞാനാത്മകം (cognitive), വികാരാത്മകം (affective), മനശ്ചാലകം (psychomotor). ഇവയെ ആധാരമാക്കി ഭാരതീയ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ പ്രവർത്തകർ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള ബോധനോദ്ദേശ്യങ്ങൾ താഴെ പറയുന്നവയാണ്: ജ്ഞാന (knowledge) സമ്പാദനം, ധാരണ (undrstanding) വികസനം, പ്രയോഗസാമർഥ്യ (application) വികസനം, വൈദഗ്ദ്ധ്യ (skill) സമ്പാദനം, അഭിഭാവ (attitude) രൂപവത്കരണം, അഭിരുചി (interest) സംവർധനം.[2]
