In this paper the writer explores the capacity of Islamic identity and ummah to promote cross cultural understanding through displays of Islamic art and culture. The exhibition of contemporary Indonesian Islamic art entitled "Bayang", held by ITB alumni and INISAF Foundation at Galeri Nasional, 27 July-14 August 2011, was curated by Rizki A. Zaelani and A. Rikrik Kusmara. In the exhibition, there were more than 200 works in the form of two-dimensional works, three-dimensional works, installation or artworks done through digital technology. They represent the faces of contemporary Islamic art in Indonesia. Islam is the human belief system that keeps relevant life from past to present. The development of Islamic art today can be understood in the context of a culture change that is getting more visual. Pameran seni rupa Islam Indonesia kontemporer bertajuk “Bayangâ€, yang diselenggarakan alumni ITB dan Yayasan INISAF di Galeri Nasional, 27 Juli-14 Agustus 2011, dikuratori Rizki A. Zaelani dan A. Rikrik Kusmara. Dalam pameran digelar sebanyak lebih dari 200 karya berupa karya dua dimensi, tiga dimensi, instalasi ataupun karya yang dikerjakan melalui teknologi digital. Mereka mewakili wajah-wajah seni rupa Islam kontemporer yang ada di Indonesia. Islam adalah sistem kepercayaan manusia yang menjaga kehidupan yang relevan dari masa lalu sampai sekarang. Perkembangan seni rupa Islam saat ini dapat dipahami dalam konteks perubahan budaya yang semakin visual.Kata Kunci: Seni Rupa Islam Kontemporer, Identitas Islam, Budaya Visual
