Hello, I am not fluent in Japanese. I would be grateful for any help with the translation of the article Tin Can Cathedral. Any help with language or content would be much valued. My translator did the best she could with some of the nouns. Also, I could use help with the internal links. Nicola Mitchell(会話) 2016年10月5日 (水) 20:56 (UTC)[返信]
Hi, appreciate you are introducing ja readers to Ukrainian culture and history. Very inspiring article, ティンキャン大聖堂 you are offering to readers in ja language circle.
AFAIC, as yourself have noted the article was a translation here on your user talkpage, and maybe forgot to note that on the article talkpage in the format as presented above.
Today, I wish to have your kind attention to the local rule on jawp, aka Japanese Wikipedia, for interlanguage translation. (FAQ offered here.)
- We need you to declare language code, original title, and &oldid in the edit summary when you post your translation:
:* eg. translated from en:Tin Can Cathedral, oldid=742017721. Or you can apply tl:translated_article, or {{tl:翻訳告知}} on the Notepage of each translated article after you post, and before another user edits that article.
- According to the local Principle, your post up to &oldid=89486695 falls under copyright violation category, subject to Case_G or version delete.
My humble advise as a peer translator would be, that you copy and save off-wiki your edit of &oldid=89486695, so that you would be able to compare with the most recent version even if Case_G is carried out. That way, you can check later if the context you intended is still active. Very sorry but it happens. /:
Please ping me anytime if this note lacks some clarity, and I would try my best to find the best way with you to respect local rules. Cheers, from one among your readers, --Omotecho(会話) 2022年5月12日 (木) 17:34 (UTC) formatting error fixed. / --Omotecho(会話) 2022年5月12日 (木) 17:30 (UTC)[返信]
Hello Omotecho, This translation was done by a Japanese translator outside of Wikipedia. I am not fluent in Japanese. I had difficulty just creating the article in the Japanese Wikipedia. Can you help with anything further that is needed with this article? Nicola Mitchell(会話) 2022年5月12日 (木) 20:05 (UTC)[返信]
- @Nicola Mitchell:, oh, I'm afraid I can't ping you: you see your signature in red letters, and that gives me an uneasy feeling to tell you the following. Or you could detail your answer by recalling what date you received the translated piece, and I'd try matching ja to enwp and point out the original &oldid your translator used. Asking your translator helps me save time and energy, if you generously inquire which enwp article, or ukWP article, on which date they based their translation on. As an requester, would at least try that solution?
- At the moment, someone can prove the first version be over 85% a translation from enwp, sorry but to be deleted for copyright violation. Jawp is much more stringent against that type of misdeed compared to enwp, as considered degrading the Encyclopedia we knit globally.
- Cultural thing. Red signature signals to some ja people a touch-and-go type of personality, if I may point out, who wolfs/harvests local editors for the interest of one's self, but not necessarily for ja community. (I don't ever wish to hurt your feelings, but to drop a note that it's a cultural climate endemic to an island country, even if it'd be sour or bitter for a moment. We have an old saying good remedy is bitter to taste. (良薬は口に苦し)
- 情報 Another hack: Please consider that it's better creating your own userpage, a small trick that the system will ping both you and me whenever we post to each others' user_talk page. Are you looking at desktop mode, and tabs displayed in English?
- Start at the very top of your [user_page], or 利用者ページ, the far left tab.
- If I were you, I'd copy and paste the first part you have noted on this talkpage, with little twist as (...the article I have posted/will post in the future. Any help... would be much valued. Also, I could use help with the internal links. )
- How does it sound? Isn't it the way you wish to accomplish your personality on jawp? Imagined that would help you look less stranger-ish to those who wish to learn what kind of cooperation you and they could share. It's worth trying out options, such as userpage, as a mean to introduce ourselves as amicable. Convenient language skill markers are useful as well, to tell your Native tongue and "ja/0" if it be.
- Gambatte (cheers), --Omotecho(会話) 2022年5月13日 (金) 11:22 (UTC)00(PS, If I ever meet our Minister of Education, I'd deff propose they would shake up compulsory English language curricula, so that accepting/turning down/detail requests in non-Japanese language would become a part of communication skill of our land (;[返信]
Hello Omotecho, The translator used the English version of this article Tin Can Cathedral to work from. The time of that version would be the time when the Japanese article was created. I don't know my way around the Japanese Wikipedia, and can't do anything more to help. If you can help this article with whatever it needs, then please help. I am not fluent in the Japanese language and totally lost when I enter the Japanese Wikipedia. Thank you. Nicola Mitchell(会話) 2022年5月13日 (金) 12:01 (UTC)[返信]
- Hello, that is a great news you have confirmed the date/steps your translator applied to: that is quite helpful so that I would add tl:translated_article on its Notepage, an indication the article was posted with good intention but forgot to declare which &oldid the initial version applied as translation source.
- As you might have noted, I am working on the article, and now understand what a hard working spirit your consignée was. I mean, applying citation format so that page numbers from the same source would be tacked into Sfn format, but not showing to the right of Sfn tags.
- A few loose ends to be tied, eg sfnref parameters on cite book/journal templates. Sfn leads your readers to footnotes, while you list the bibliographic data of materials cited under section 参考文献, or Bibliography.
- I might discuss with you as the author of cited works, if I need to confirm my understanding of the citation/part(s) of paragraph corresponding or matching to contents.
- Please consider building your user page on ja Wikipedia ASAP, or link it to your home wiki at least. I foresee more people are needed to work with you here, but I can't introduce you to everybody who shyly reads our correspondence here.
- Good day to you. Cheers, 0--Omotecho(会話) 2022年5月15日 (日) 11:46 (UTC)[返信]
- Thanks Omotecho for all your help with this! I could not possibly have done this on my own. Your work is much welcome and appreciated.Nicola Mitchell(会話) 2022年5月15日 (日) 11:53 (UTC)[返信]
