デビッド・ラシャペル（David LaChapelle、1963年3月11日-、アメリカ合衆国コネチカット州フェアフィールド生まれ）は、ファッション、広告、芸術の分野で活躍する写真家、映画監督。シュールかつユーモラスな表現で知られる。

デイビッド・ラシャペル（1963年3月11日生まれ）は、アメリカ人の写真家、ミュージックビデオディレクター、映画監督です。ファッションと写真の分野で特に知られており、その作品は多くの場合、美術史を参照しながら、時として社会的メッセージを込めています。彼の写真スタイルは「超現実的で巧妙な反体制的要素を含む」あるいは「キッチュなポップ・シュルレアリスム」と評されています。「写真界のフェリーニ」と呼ばれたこともある彼は、国際的な出版物で活躍し、世界中の商業ギャラリーや美術館で作品を発表しています。

写真家としての始まり

1980年代、ラシャペルはダグ・エイトケンなどのアーティストも所属していた303ギャラリーと提携していました。インタビュー誌のスタッフが彼の展示作品を見たことをきっかけに、同誌での仕事を依頼されることになります。17歳の時、アンディ・ウォーホルと出会い、まだ高校生だった彼はインタビュー誌の写真家として採用されました。ウォーホルは彼に「好きなようにやればいい。ただし、みんなが良く見えるようにするんだ」と言ったと伝えられています。その後、ラシャペルの作品はDetails、GQ、i-D、ニューヨークタイムズマガジン、ローリングストーン、The Face、ヴァニティ・フェア、ヴォーグ・イタリア、ヴォーグ・パリなど、数々の雑誌の表紙や誌面を飾ることとなりました。

ラシャペルの作品は「丹念に作り込まれた光沢のある、色彩豊かな超現実的なスタイル」と評され、その写真には「反体制的な—あるいは少なくともユーモアに富んだ—アイデア、荒々しいエネルギー、笑いが満ちあふれている。生命力に満ちた作品」だと言われています。1995年、ラシャペルはディーゼルの有名な「キスをする水兵」広告を撮影しました。第二次世界大戦の終戦記念をモチーフに撮影されたこの広告は、同性カップルのキスシーンを公の広告に使用した最初期の例の一つとなりました。その物議を醸した背景には、当時アメリカで議論を呼んでいた「Don't ask, don't tell（言うな、尋ねるな）」政策があり、この政策下では同性愛者や両性愛者の軍務が禁止されていました。1996年にフリーズ誌に掲載された長文の記事では、この広告は「全体的に重厚なユーモアと風刺に満ちている」と評価されました。2011年9月、バラク・オバマ大統領によってこの政策が最終的に撤廃された際、広告の採用を承認し推進したディーゼルの創業者兼社長のレンツォ・ロッソは「16年前、この広告について苦情が絶えなかった。今ではついに法的に認められた」とコメントしています。
