スコット・サンダー・シェパード（英: Scott Sander Sheppard, 1977年 - ）は、アメリカ合衆国の天文学者。

経歴

学士課程はオーバリン大学で物理学を専攻（1998年学士、優等学生表彰）、ハワイ大学の大学院を経て勤務先はカーネギー研究所の地磁気部門である（ワシントンD.C.在勤）^[1]^{[より良い情報源が必要]}。

太陽系外のマイナープラネット^[2]^[3]^[4]を追い続けて不規則衛星を観測し、彗星や小惑星の発見を重ねた。その中に海王星のトロヤ群と呼ばれる小惑星の最初の例もあり2008 LC₁₈と2005 TN₅₃を発見、海王星とほぼ同じ軌道をめぐることを示した。シェパードはそのうちの385571 Otrera（英語）を命名した。観測から、トロヤ群は非常に引き伸ばされた長楕円の軌道をめぐることがわかり、太陽系のあちこちで星のかけらをとらえたとも予測された。

LONEOS（英語版）（アンダーソン・メサ天文台（英語版））は1998年に発見したメインベルトの小惑星を献名し、スコットシェパード（17898 Scottsheppard）と名付けた。
