Il Campionato World Rugby Under-20 2016 (in inglese 2016 World Rugby Under 20 Championship campionato mondiale di rugby Under-20 organizzato da World Rugby .
Si tenne in Inghilterra in due impianti della Greater Manchester tra il 7 e il 25 giugno 2016 e fu vinto dalla Nazionale di casa che si aggiudicò nell'occasione il suo terzo titolo[ 1] Irlanda .
A retrocedere nell'edizione 2017 del Trofeo cadetto fu il Giappone , battuto dall'Italia nella finale per l'undicesimo posto, l'ultimo disponibile per essere qualificati all'edizione successiva[ 2]
La formula previde la disputa di tre gironi all'italiana di sola andata con classifica finale aggregata: di conseguenza il successivo seeding nella fase a playoff non dipendeva dalla posizione nel girone ma dai punti conquistati. Le quattro squadre meglio piazzate nel seeding disputarono i posti dal primo al quarto, le quattro ultime per i posti dal nono al dodicesimo, posizione questa che comporta la retrocessione nel Trophy ; le altre quattro disputarono gli incontri per i posti dal quinto all'ottavo.
