A "nem javasolt közzétenni" azt jelenti, hogy nem teszik közzé? Milyen forrásokat jelöljek meg konkrétabban a két lapalapítással kapcsolatban? A lapokat egyszerűen létrehoztuk, fent vannak az Arcanumon, stb. mind a huszonhat évfolyam. Dőlt betűt, fettelést használtam, a bekezdéscímek előtt, után entert ütöttem. A youtube-on szerkesztek videókat állatokról, az információim részben a magyar és angol wikipédiáról válogatom, de soha nem felolvasom, hanem átírom, átszerkesztem. Az egyik feliratkozóm megbátorodva ezen (megjegyzem, dícséretes!), kezdte szerkeszteni a wikipédia magyar oldalait az állatokról, mivel sok helyen erősen hiányosak (ez nekem is szándékom volt, de időhiány miatt elodáztam). Habár át szoktam írni még az angolról fordított szövegeket is, több esetben az illető által szerkesztett szöveg szóra pontosan ugyanaz, amit én elmondok a videóimban. Mivel a YouTube partner programban nem támogatják a szövegfelolvasást, mint saját értékű videót, ezért attól tartok, hogy az azonos szövegrészek gondot okoznának nekem a jövőben. A kérdésem az lenne, hogy ezekben a szövegekben lehetséges-e, hogy megjelöljem forrásként a videóimat, vagy hogy átfogalmazzam a mások által beírt szöveget?
A videók szövegét nem felolvasom, én szerkesztem. A magyar wikipédia források sok esetben hiányosak, ezért angolból fordítom és egyben írom át a saját szavaimra a szövegeimet. Minden esetben megjelölöm a videóknál a forrást, ahonnan olvasok szakmai dolgokat. Ha esetleg saját véleményt teszek hozzá, amit szakmai szempontból nem szoktam, az meg nem kerül be a wikipédia szövegbe. Éjmadárvita2023. március 7., 17:29 (CET)Válasz

Erre is válaszolva: az illető nem én vagyok, hanem valaki, aki a videóimat nézve elkezdte szerkeszteni a magyar wikipédia oldalakat, elmondása szerint ő is angolból fordítja, viszont néha szóról szóra ugyanaz a szöveg íródik. Igen, de csak abban az esetben, ahol szóról szóra úgy van leírva, ahogy én elmondtam a videómban. Vagy átírni, vagy megjelölni a videóm is a források között. Pl az indiai elefánt cikkje a tegnap frissült általa (még egyszer, dícséretes, hogy nekilátott a szerkesztésnek!). Vagy, mondjuk, ha szerkesztem a borneói orangután lapját (ami enyhén szólva hiányos), az elmondottaim alapján leírni és bejelölni a videóm forrásként (nem a saját véleményem részeit, ha van olyan). Értem, hát sajnos ez így nem biztos, hogy működhet, mivel a Wikipédia nem lehet önmagának semmiféleképpen forrása, tehát amit az angol WP-ről fordítasz a videódba az nem lehet a forrása az itteni szócikknek. Viszont javaslom ezt nagyobb plénum előtt megvitatni, mert lehet, hogy ez már nem minősül a WP-ről vett forrásnak, de gyanítom, hogy igen. Előre is elnézést kérek, új profilt kellett létrehoznom, mert az előzőt illetően semmilyen információm nem maradt (felhasználó név, jelszó), egy e-mail fiók tisztítás során minden elveszett.
Az előző profilommal hoztam létre Tomaji Attila költő barátom szócikkét, a mostani bejelentkezésem oka pedig, hogy egy újonnan megjelent recenzióval és egy elnyert NKA ösztöndíjjal szerettem volna kiegészíteni az anyagot. A recenzióról a kiegészítést látom, azt korábban tettem meg, ellenben hosszabb ideje nincs elbírálva. Az NKA ösztöndíj mai téma.
Kérlek, jelezd vissza számomra, hogy mi a további teendőm a két frissítés véglegesítése érdekében.

Köszönöm válaszod! Érveidet általánoságban értem, és tulajdonképpen igazad lehet. Bár személy szerint szkeptikusan várom azt a szócikket, ami a koszinuszt úgy tudja tárgyalni, hogy független a szinusztól meg a többi szögfüggvényektől, és túlmutat a kopipészt és csonk szinttől. Tisztelt Hári Zalán Szerkesztő Úr!
Szeretném megkérdezni, hogy egy Csigabi nevű szerkesztő miért törölte az általam közzétett Báthory család (Aba nembeli) oldalt. A Wikipédiában ugyanis nincs létrehozva oldal ennek az ősi családnak. A Pallas Nagylexikonban, a Tolnai féle lexikonban, az Arcanum oldalán írnak róluk, de a Wikipédiában nem. Ezért készítettem az említett lexikonokból egy összefoglalót, amely csak történészek által ellenőrzött tényekről szól, de törölték.
Van esetleg olyan fórum, ahol a törlés ellen fel lehet szólalni?

Szeretném kérdezni, hogy miért nem jelenik meg a keresőben (Chrome-google) a keresett oldal? A más wikin említésből kattintható-látható az oldal, de a keresőben nem jelenik meg. Mi a módja annak, hogy megjelenjen, akár "névjegy szerűen" oldalt a keresőben? Szia, amint látod, szerkesztettem magyar változatot a Mirra Alfassa lapra. Utána Vépi javított rajta egyet s mást de van néhány dolog amit ki szeretnék javítani de nem tudom hogyan. Vadi új vagyok a wikipédián, ez az első munkám.

Szia, ismét PálMa 23 ....az "Élettársa Sri Aurobindo"-t ki kellene javítani "Spirituális Kollaboránsa" - ra. Ugyanis ez volt a személyes kapcsolatuk. Az élettársi viszonyt ők maguk cáfolták meg még életükben, ellentétes volt a tanításukkal.

@Richardomeister: először (sic!) is azt, hogy a szócikkeket mások ne szerkeszthessék nem szoktuk megoldani, a lapvédelmet csak kivételes esetben és átmeneti jelleggel alkalmazzuk. Ügyelj arra, hogy legyen elég megfelelő forrás az állításokra és a cikkben közöltekre (az ellenőrizhetőség értelmében, s ez vonatkozik arra az információra is, amit már tudtál). Ha ez nem teljesül, akkor a cikkedet törölhetik.
Ne másold az adott források szövegét! Ez jogsértésnek minősülhet, és 5 nappal azután, hogy a lehetséges szerzőijog-sértések listájára kerül, törlik a lapot.

Elolvastam az angol verziót. Háát,.. nem a legjobb cikk az angol wikin. A fitokémiai részt nem szakemberek írták. Zalán, sajnos nagyon rövid az időm most. Megpróbálom röviden összefoglalni a problémát. Az angol nyelvű fitokémia rész erősen hiányos és több helyen hibás is és – érthetö módon – nem illeszkedik a Magyar Gyógyszerkönyvhöz sem.
A gyógynövényekkel foglalkozó tudomány a farmakognózia nagyon pontosan definiálja (fitokémiai alapon), hogy mi a gyógynövény és milyen hatóanyagok tartoznak oda. A farmakognózia nem Mariska néni tudománya. De ezt te is tudod. A hivatalosan gyógynövényként számon tartott növények hatóanyagait primer és szekunder anyagcseretermékekre osztják.
Gyógyászatilag jelentős primer anyagcseretermékek: illóolajok, nyákok, mézgák stb.... Beszélnünk kell ezekről is.
Gyógyászatilag jelentős szekunder anyagcseretermékek: alkaloidok (pirrolizidin alkaloidok, tropánalkaloidok, fenilalanin eredetű alkaloidok, hisztidin eredetű alkaloidok, diterpénalkaloidok, szteroidalkaloidok..... csak ami hirtelen eszembe jut), továbbá glikozinolátok, terpének, kéntartalmú vegyületek (ezek nem alkaloidok). Ez egy gyönyörűen rendszerezett tudomány hozzáillesztve a megfelelő farmakológiai hatás.
Ja! Nem beszéltem még a medicinában/gyógyszerészetben gyógynövénynek számító antibiotikumokat termelő ilyen-olyan gombákról, amiről illik beszélnünk. Igen, azok is gyógynövények.
Tudom, hogy nem értesz a farmakognóziához viszont a szerencse az, hogy én sem. De egykor szigorlatoznom kellett belőle.
Javaslatom: a fitokémiát ugord át. A többi könnyen fordítható, puha angol szöveg. Ha visszajövök én megírom a fitokémiai részt. Ne keseredj el, nem kell mentegetned magad, el sem tudod képzelni, hogy mibe vágtál bele. Egyébként meg fitokémiai rész nélkül is kitehető az ablakba a lefordított angol szöveg.
Kicsit más de meg kell említenünk majd a "modern" gyógynövénytermesztést. Ezek már genetikailag módosított néha százszoros hatóanyagtartalmú (gyógy)növényi szövettenyészetek extraktumai. A gyógyszergyárak fokozatosan erre térnek rá.

Gyógynövény. Mit tegyünk? Rám bízod a befejezést, összedolgozást vagy magadra veszed ezt a hálátlan dolgot? Tudod egyszer nagyon, ...nagyon... nagyon régen, még hallgató koromban gyűlöltem a farmakognóziát. Amikor a wikin elkezdtem tevékenykedni, megfogadtam, hogy bármit de farmakognóziát soha. De KeFe úgy felbosszantott (no meg sok más), hogy azt találtam mondani "egye fene".
Sok a tévhit, a butaság, a tájékozatlanság a témában. A Blikk, Origo, Index nevű "szaklapokban" megjelenik egy valódi szakfolyóirat közleménye, amit természetesen nem értenek... de azért írnak róla. Így fordulhat elő, hogy a lóhere egyik hatóanyaga "rákgyógyszer" lesz. Nyilván mind a 200 féle rákot gyógyítja. Itt már meg is lehetne állni. Az eredeti cikkben szövetkultúrán mM-os koncentrációt használnak (mert csak gyorsteszt) és van hatás. Ez azt jelenti, hogy egy 70 kg-os embernek napi 27 kg (!) lóherét kell egy hónapig enni, hogy valami rák ellenes hatás mutatkozzon. Csak így érhető el a kellően magas hatóanyag vérszint. Jónapot kívánok! Jó pár éve majsztro néven írtam az Endrődi Gyűjteményről egy cikket. Aztán megszűnt az email fiókom, és megszűnt valahogy (?) a szerkesztői nevem, és most olvastam hogy a címbeli, általam szerkesztett szócikk is megszűnt. Több hozzászólás volt, gondolom el is próbáltak érni, de talán nem tudtak. Írják, hogy látta Andrásfalvy Bertalan emeritus professzor úr is, de az sem volt elég a radírozni kívánóknak... Meg azt is láttam, hogy jelzik, hogy majd írnak nekem, de hogy írtak e azt nem jelzik, csak már a megszüntetést. A szócikk igaz, és az is, hogy a saját, de valós gyűjteményemről szól, és ez nem reklám, ezzel nem keresek semmit. Saját pénzemből (örökségeimből) hoztam létre a Gyűjteményt, ami ingyen látogatható! Eddig 14 díjmentes ideiglenes kiállítást csináltam! Ma ez Magyarországon egyedülálló, és hivatkoztam is a hasonló című FB oldalra is. Ezen kívül vannak hivatalos múzeumi értékelések is, szeretném befotózni itt vagy a cikknél, de nem értek hozzá, és a fix gépemhez sem nagyon, 70 éves vagyok, 30 éve csak gyűjtök, nincs senki aki tanácsot adna... Nagyon örülök, hogy a regisztrációval mentor is jár - épp keresni akartam, kitől tudnék kérdezni. A blogomon többek között olyan híres avatási beszédek fordításával is foglalkozom, amiknek még nincs egy "rendes" magyar változata, és most ezeket szeretném a szerzőik (már amúgy is létező) magyar wiki oldalán mint hivatkozást elhelyezni. A legfontosabb érintett David Foster Wallace lenne az Ez a víz című beszédével (https://preprocessor.hu/david-foster-wallace-ez-a-viz), de készítettem még fordítást Joseph Brodsyhoz, Bill Wattersonhoz és Arnold Schwarzeneggerhez is.
Tudnál segíteni, hogy mi lenne ennek az annotációnak a hivatalos menete? Wallace-nál például saját kútfőből talán a [33]-as cite után tennék egy extra mondatot, hogy "A beszéd magyar fordításban is elérhető[34]", és oda a link? Vagy a Bibliográfiába kellene egy bullet point a "Magyarul" szekcióba? Bármiféle tippet/útmutatást köszönök!
Tehát ha jól értem, akkor a "Bibliográfia/Magyarul" rovatba csak egy nyers cím menne mint új felsorolási elem (nyilván ISBN és minden egyéb hivatalos ID nélkül), és a külső link pedig oké, feltéve hogy a "További Információk" rovatba megy? Bár akkor így nincs összeköttetésben a címmel... Vagy inkább az ISBN helyett legyen ott egy számozott forrás hivatkozás a cím mellett, és a külső link pedig a források között? Melyik a jobb? Hát de ha hivatkozok rá a "Bibliográfia/Magyarul" szekcióból, akkor pont azáltal válik a cikk forrásává, nem? Állítom, hogy van magyar fordítása, és aztán be is hivatkozom, hogy tessék, itt a magyar fordítása. A későbbi "Díjak és Kitüntetések" rovatban is van még cite, vagyis ez szerintem elég precedens, hogy innen is lehetne forrás hivatkozás. Mondjuk megnézve a többi linket, a további információk közé valóban nem annyira jól illene ebben az esetben... De a cite-ok közé szerintem simán. Mit gondolsz? @Blua lago: Bocs, hogy beledumálok de ez a jegyzet vagy hivatkozás dolog engem lassan már szórakoztat. Több példát tudnék hozni, hogy az általam írt szócikkekben utólag kijavítják a jegyzetet hivatkozásra majd mások a hivatkozást vissza jegyzetre. Igazából nincs rá pontos útmutató a wikin. A józan ész azt diktálja, hogy hivatkozás legyen, mert a cikkbeli állításunkat a megadott referenciával támasztjuk alá., tehát arra hivatkozunk. @Pharmattila Köszönöm, hogy megosztottad a gondolataidat. „Pontos útmutató” éppenséggel van rá a magyar Wikipédián, ezt fentebb is említem, és ennek az útmutatónak az interpretációjáról szólt nagyrészt a fenti beszélgetés, ez a Wikipédia:Szócikkek felépítése néven fut. Szerintem viszonylag logikusak az útmutató által javasolt szócikkfelépítések. Eszerint egyik opció az, hogy van egy „Jegyzetek” szakasz, ahol vegyesen vannak feltüntetve forráshivatkozások és megjegyzések is. A másik útmutatószerinti opció a szakaszok szeparálása: itt külön lehet venni a kettőt, és azt javasolja az útmutatónk, hogy legyen két szakasz, az egyik hallgasson „Megjegyzések”, a másik pedig „Hivatkozások” névre. A megjegyzések és a hivatkozások különválasztására jó példa lehet az általad írt majomhimlő cikk felépítése, az egybevont módszerre pedig mondjuk Afrika. Örülök, hogy te is az általam preferált „Hivatkozások” szakaszt támogatod a Gyógynövények cikk esetében – mindazonáltal ha szerinted a Wikipédia forráshivatkozási gyakorlatát érdemes lenne nagyobb nyilvánosság előtt tárgyalni, akkor szerintem érdemes lehet felvetned a forrásokkal foglalkozó kocsmafalon. @Blua lago: Köszi a magyarázatot. Már régen olvastam a "szabályzatot". A "jegyzet" viszont irritál... de ez legyen az én bajom. Tervezem, hogy felvetem a hivatkozásokkal kapcsolatos problémákat csak mostanság nagyon keveset vagyok a computer közelében. Ez néha >3000 mérföld távolságot is jelenthet.
Ha már a majomhimlőt említetted, az ottani hivatkozásokkal is gondom van. A sajátommal. Én a wiki szabályait követve az eredeti cikkek formátumát "wikisre" formáltam. Elég sok munkával és közben nagyon morcos voltam. Aztán jött egy nem regisztrált 2001:4c4c:20a0:2c00::1000 "nevű " fazon és sok sok munkával visszaalakította az eredeti adatbázisban található formára az összeset. A bajom NEM a kéretlen javítgatóval van (az övét tartom jónak), hanem azzal, hogy órákat töltöttem el a wikisítéssel majd ő is órákat javítgatta vissza.
Konklúzió: felül kellene vizsgálni a wikin a hivatkozások/jegyzetek/referenciák elavult szabályait. Csak ezzel nem akarok most előjönni, mert átkozottul nincs rá időm. Pharmattilavita2023. június 17., 22:17 (CEST)Válasz

Recent changes
The Section-level Image Suggestions feature has been deployed on seven Wikipedias (Portuguese, Russian, Indonesian, Catalan, Hungarian, Finnish and Norwegian Bokmål). The feature recommends images for articles on contributors' watchlists that are a good match for individual sections of those articles.
Speciális:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool for administrators to help fight spam. It provides a clearer interface for blocking plain domains (and their subdomains), is more easily searchable, and is faster for the software to process for each edit on the wiki. It does not support regex (for complex cases), nor URL path-matching, nor the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist, but otherwise it replaces most of the functionalities of the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. There is a Python script to help migrate all simple domains into this tool, and more feature details, within the tool's documentation. It is available at all wikis except for Meta-wiki, Commons, and Wikidata. [3]
The WikiEditor extension was updated. It includes some of the most frequently used features of wikitext editing. In the past, many of its messages could only be translated by administrators, but now all regular translators on translatewiki can translate them. Please check the state of WikiEditor localization into your language, and if the "Completion" for your language shows anything less than 100%, please complete the translation. See a more detailed explanation.

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 July. It will be on all wikis from 13 July (calendar).
Speciális:Hivatkozás keresés and its API counterparts will now search for all of the URL provided in the query. It used to be only the first 60 characters. This feature was requested fifteen years ago. [5]
Future changes
There is an experiment with a ChatGPT plugin. This is to show users where the information is coming from when they read information from Wikipedia. It has been tested by Wikimedia Foundation staff and other Wikimedians. Soon all ChatGPT plugin users can use the Wikipedia plugin. This is the same plugin which was mentioned in Tech News 2023/20. There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed Third-party resources policy. The proposal will impact the use of third-party resources in gadgets and userscripts. Based on the ideas received so far, policy includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, some best practices and exemption requirements such as code transparency and inspectability. The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 July. It will be on all wikis from 20 July (calendar).
MediaWiki system messages will now look for available local fallbacks, instead of always using the default fallback defined by software. This means wikis no longer need to override each language on the fallback chain separately. For example, English Wikipedia doesn't have to create en-ca and en-gb subpages with a transclusion of the base pages anymore. This makes it easier to maintain local overrides. [7]
The action=growthsetmentorstatus API will be deprecated with the new MediaWiki version. Bots or scripts calling that API should use the action=growthmanagementorlist API now. [8]

The tag filter on Speciális:Új lapok and revision history pages can now be inverted. For example, you can hide edits that were made using an automated tool.[9][10]
The Wikipedia ChatGPT plugin experiment can now be used by ChatGPT users who can use plugins. You can participate in a video call if you want to talk about this experiment or similar work.[11]

It was not possible to generate a PDF for pages with non-Latin characters in the title, for the last two weeks. This has now been fixed.[12]

Our first project of the year will be Community configuration 2.0, which helps editors with extended rights transparently and easily configure important on-wiki functionality.
After we finish work on Community configuration 2.0, we will hope to fit in one of the following projects:
Article creation: This project aims to provide new editors with better guidance and guardrails in the article creation process, with the intention of lightening the load of new page reviewers.
Non-editing participation: This project aims to create low-risk ways for readers to participate in Wikipedia with the intention of funneling more readers into contributing to the Wikimedia movement.
Suggested Edits are now receiving topic predictions via the new Language-Agnostic Topic Classification. This change affects non-English Wikipedia wikis. It will ensure newcomers receive a greater diversity of task recommendations. Before, as this feature was a test, English Wikipedia was used to select topics. The change is gradual as lists of topics are refreshed when they become empty. The Research team will evaluate the impact in a few months. [14]
Starting on August 1, a new set of Wikipedias will get "Add a link": Georgian Wikipedia, Kara-Kalpak Wikipedia, Kabyle Wikipedia, Kabardian Wikipedia, Kabiyè Wikipedia, Kikuyu Wikipedia, Kazakh Wikipedia, Khmer Wikipedia, Kannada Wikipedia, Kashmiri Wikipedia, Colognian Wikipedia, Kurdish Wikipedia, Cornish Wikipedia, Cornish Wikipedia.
Mentorship
The Growth team provides dedicated features to establish a mentorship program for newcomers. Every newcomer gets a volunteer mentor who provides encouragement and answers questions. Communities can set up or join this mentorship system by visiting Special:ManageMentors. This mentorship system is configurable by the community at Special:EditGrowthConfig.
More communities have implemented mentorship. A Wikimedia Foundation data scientist will be looking at the impact of Mentorship. We will look at the impact on Spanish and English Wikipedia. [15]
The Growth team will also host a Mentoring new editors on Wikipedia session at Wikimania 2023 in Singapore. Workshop attendees will help brainstorm improvements to Growth’s mentorship features.
Positive reinforcement
We will share more complete experiment analysis for all the three parts of the Positive reinforcement project soon. At the moment, the new Impact module, Leveling up, and Personalized praise are still being A/B tested on the Growth team's pilot wikis.
In the meantime, initial leading indicators for the Personalized praise project have been published. Although this is still a relatively small sample, results seem healthy. They show that Mentors are indeed receiving notifications and clicking through to view their praise-worthy mentees.
Growth contributes to IP Editing migration
The Growth team is currently focusing on IP Editing: Privacy Enhancement and Abuse Mitigation. It is a project that touches many different Wikimedia Foundation teams. The Growth team will focus on temporary accounts through two main points:
the user experience of a logged-out user, that switches to a temporary account,
change Growth-owned extensions and features, so that they work as expected with temporary accounts. [16]

The service was in place for several years, but due to no usage, and availability of alternatives, it was deprecated to reduce maintenance overheads. Other services which cover the same languages are still available.[21]

Recent changes
As part of the changes for the better diff handling of paragraph splits, improved detection of splits is being rolled out. Over the last two weeks, we deployed this support to group0 and group1 wikis. This week it will be deployed to group2 wikis. [33]
Wikisource users can now use the prpbengalicurrency label to denote Bengali currency characters as page numbers inside the <pagelist> tag. [35]
Two preferences have been relocated. The preference "A vizuális szerkesztő engedélyezése" is now shown on the "Szerkesztés" tab at all wikis. Previously it was shown on the "Béta funkciók" tab at some wikis. The preference "A wikiszöveges mód engedélyezése a vizuális szerkesztőben, külön wikiszöveges szerkesztő használata helyett" is now also shown on the "Szerkesztés" tab at all wikis, instead of the "Béta funkciók" tab. Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
All right-to-left language wikis, plus Korean, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, and Bulgarian Wikipedias, will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. This feature will come to more wikis in future weeks. [38]
Future changes
The removal of the DoubleWiki extension is being discussed. This extension currently allows Wikisource users to view articles from multiple language versions side by side when the <=> symbol next to a specific language edition is selected. Comments on this are welcomed at the phabricator task.
A proposal has been made to merge the second hidden-categories list (which appears below the wikitext editing form) with the main list of categories (which is further down the page). More information is available on Phabricator; feedback is welcome!

EditInSequence, a feature that allows users to edit pages faster on Wikisource has been moved to a Beta Feature based on community feedback. To enable it, you can navigate to the beta features tab in Preferences. [40]
There is a new option for Administrators when they are changing the usergroups for a user, to add the user’s user page to their watchlist. This works both via Speciális:Szerkesztők jogai and via the API. [42]
The LoginNotify extension was not sending notifications since January. It has now been fixed, so going forward, you may see notifications for failed login attempts, and successful login attempts from a new device. [44]

Recent changes
ORES, the revision evaluation service, is now using a new open-source infrastructure on all wikis except for English Wikipedia and Wikidata. These two will follow this week. If you notice any unusual results from the Recent Changes filters that are related to ORES (for example, "A módosítások minőségének megbecslése" and "A szerkesztő szándékának megbecslése"), please report them.[47]
When you are logged in on one Wikimedia wiki and visit a different Wikimedia wiki, the system tries to log you in there automatically. This has been unreliable for a long time. You can now visit the login page to make the system try extra hard. If you feel that made logging in better or worse than it used to be, your feedback is appreciated.[48]

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 September. It will be on all wikis from 14 September (calendar).
As part of the changes for the Better diff handling of paragraph splits wishlist proposal, the inline switch widget in diff pages is being rolled out this week to all wikis. The inline switch will allow viewers to toggle between a unified inline or two-column diff wikitext format.[49]

The Enterprise API is launching a new feature called "breaking news". Currently in BETA, this attempts to identify likely "newsworthy" topics as they are currently being written about in any Wikipedia. Your help is requested to improve the accuracy of its detection model, especially on smaller language editions, by recommending templates or identifiable editing patterns. New variables will be added to AbuseFilter: global_account_groups and global_account_editcount. They are available only when an account is being created. You can use them to prevent blocking automatic creation of accounts when users with many edits elsewhere visit your wiki for the first time. [56][57]

There is a new user preference for "Mindig engedélyezze a biztonságos módot". This setting will make pages load without including any on-wiki JavaScript or on-wiki stylesheet pages. It can be useful for debugging broken JavaScript gadgets. [58]

At some wikis, newcomers are suggested images from Commons to add to articles without any images. Starting on Tuesday, newcomers at these wikis will be able to add images to unillustrated article sections. The specific wikis are listed under "Images recommendations" at the Growth team deployment table. You can learn more about this feature.[62]
In the mobile web skin (Minerva) the CSS ID #page-actions will be replaced with #p-views. This change is to make it consistent with other skins and to improve support for gadgets and extensions in the mobile skin. A few gadgets may need to be updated; there are details and search-links in the task.
Community Configuration 2.0 is a feature that will enable Wikimedia communities to easily customize and configure features to meet their unique needs. This approach provides non-technical moderators with more independence and control over enabling/disabling and customizing features for their communities.
Initial designs are drafted for two different approaches (see images). We will soon demo interactive prototypes to interested admins, stewards, and experienced editors (T346109). Please let us know if you have feedback on the design approach, or want to participate in prototype testing.
IP Masking
The Growth team has been working on several updates to ensure Growth maintained features will be compatible with future IP Masking changes. This work has included code changes to: Recent Changes (T343322), Echo notifications (T333531), the Thanks extension (T345679) and Mentorship (T341390).
Before December, the Growth team will initiate community discussions with the goal of migrating communities from Flow to DiscussionTools. This move aims to minimize the necessity for additional engineering work to make Flow compatible with IP Masking. (T346108)
Mentorship
We assembled some resources for mentors at Mediawiki wiki. This resource page is translatable and will be linked from the mentor dashboard.
We are working to resolve a bug related to mentors properly returning after being marked as "Away". (T347024)
We continue the deployment of the structured task "add a link" to all Wikipedias. We plan to scale the task to all Wikipedias that have link suggestions available by the end of 2023.
We plan to scale the new Impact Module to all Wikipedias soon, but first we are investigating a bug with the job that refreshes the Impact Module data. (T344428)
At some wikis, newcomers have access to the "add an image" structured task. This task suggests images that may be relevant to add to unillustrated articles. Newcomers at these wikis can now add images to unillustrated articles sections. (T345940) The wikis that have this task are listed under "Images recommendations" at the Growth team deployment table.
Other news
We disabled the “add an image” task temporarily (T345188) because there was a failure in the image suggestions pipeline (T345141). This is now fixed.
After a 2.5 years-long collaboration with Bangala Wikipedia, we have decided to start a collaboration with another wiki. Swahili Wikipedia is now a pilot wiki for Growth experiments.

The Structured Content team, as part of its project of improving UploadWizard on Commons, made some UX improvements to the upload step of choosing own vs not own work (T347590), as well as to the licensing step for own work (T347756).

Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [65][66]
Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [67]

In the Vector 2022 skin, the default font-size of a number of navigational elements (tagline, tools menu, navigational links, and more) has been increased slightly to match the font size used in page content. [68]

If you are using the gadgets Reference Tooltips or Navigation Popups, you won’t see Reference Previews. Deployment is planned for November 22, 2023.
Canary (also known as heartbeat) events will be produced into Wikimedia event streams from December 11. Streams users are advised to filter out these events, by discarding all events where meta.domain == "canary". Updates to Pywikibot or wikimedia-streams will discard these events by default. [78]

Impact Module
At the beginning of November 2023, the Growth team deployed the New Impact Module to all Wikipedias. We recently released a follow up improvement to how edit data was displayed based on editor feedback. [88]
Developers can find some initial proof of concept code shared on gitlab.
Mentorship
When a mentor marked themselves as "Away", they were not getting their name assigned to new accounts when they returned. This has been fixed. [92]
We improved the message received by newcomers when their mentor quits, to reduce confusion. [93]
We worked on ensuring that all mentees are assigned to an active mentor. This required reassigning mentees with no mentors to a new mentor. We paused this as the clean-up script confused some editors. We will resume it when the identified blockers are resolved. [94]
It is now possible to create an Abuse Filter to prevent one user from signing up as a mentor. [95]

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 December. It will be on all wikis from 21 December (calendar). There is no new MediaWiki version next week. [107][108]
Starting December 18, it won't be possible to activate Structured Discussions on a user's own talk page using the Beta feature. The Beta feature option remains available for users who want to deactivate Structured Discussions. This is part of Structured Discussions' deprecation work. [109]
There will be full support for redirects in the Module namespace. The "Move Page" feature will leave an appropriate redirect behind, and such redirects will be appropriately recognized by the software (e.g. hidden from Speciális:UnconnectedPages). There will also be support for manual redirects. [110]
Future changes
The MediaWiki JavaScript documentation is moving to a new format. During the move, you can read the old docs using version 1.41. Feedback about the new site is welcome on the project talk page.
The Wishathon is a new initiative that encourages collaboration across the Wikimedia community to develop solutions for wishes collected through the Community Wishlist Survey. The first community Wishathon will take place from 15–17 March. If you are interested in a project proposal as a user, developer, designer, or product lead, you can register for the event and read more.

Recent changes
mediawiki2latex is a tool that converts wiki content into the formats of LaTeX, PDF, ODT, and EPUB. The code now runs many times faster due to recent improvements. There is also an optional Docker container you can install on your local machine.
The way that Random pages are selected has been updated. This will slowly reduce the problem of some pages having a lower chance of appearing. [111]

Pages that use the JSON contentmodel will now use tabs instead of spaces for auto-indentation. This will significantly reduce the page size. [114]
Gadgets and personal user scripts may now use JavaScript syntax introduced in ES6 (also known as "ES2015") and ES7 ("ES2016"). MediaWiki validates the source code to protect other site functionality from syntax errors, and to ensure scripts are valid in all supported browsers. Previously, Gadgets could use the requiresES6 option. This option is no longer needed and will be removed in the future. [115]

Starting on January 17, it will not be possible to login to Wikimedia wikis from some specific old versions of the Chrome browser (versions 51–66, released between 2016 and 2018). Additionally, users of iOS 12, or Safari on Mac OS 10.14, may need to login to each wiki separately. [120]
The jquery.cookie module was deprecated and replaced with the mediawiki.cookie module last year. A script has now been run to replace any remaining uses, and this week the temporary alias will be removed. [121]

Recent changes
Starting Monday January 29, all talk pages messages' timestamps will become a link. This link is a permanent link to the comment. It allows users to find the comment they are looking for, even if this comment was moved elsewhere. This will affect all wikis except for the English Wikipedia. You can read more about this change on Diff or on Mediawiki.org. [125]
There are some improvements to the CAPTCHA to make it harder for spam bots and scripts to bypass it. If you have feedback on this change, please comment on the task. Staff are monitoring metrics related to the CAPTCHA, as well as secondary metrics such as account creations and edit counts.

Recent changes
The mobile site history pages now use the same HTML as the desktop history pages. If you hear of any problems relating to mobile history usage please point them to the phabricator task.
On most wikis, admins can now block users from making specific actions. These actions are: uploading files, creating new pages, moving (renaming) pages, and sending thanks. The goal of this feature is to allow admins to apply blocks that are adequate to the blocked users' activity. Learn more about "action blocks". [130][131]

Talk pages permalinks that included diacritics and non-Latin script were malfunctioning. This issue is fixed. [134]
Future changes
24 Wikipedias with Reference Tooltips as a default gadget are encouraged to remove that default flag. This would make Reference Previews the new default for reference popups, leading to a more consistent experience across wikis. For 46 Wikipedias with less than 4 interface admins, the change is already scheduled for mid-February, unless there are concerns. The older Reference Tooltips gadget will still remain usable and will override this feature, if it is available on your wiki and you have enabled it in your settings. [135][136]

The WDQS Graph Split experiment is working and loaded onto 3 test servers. The team in charge is testing the split's impact and requires feedback from WDQS users through the UI or programmatically in different channels. [137][138][139] Users' feedback will validate the impact of various use cases and workflows around the Wikidata Query service. [140][141]
Problems
There was a bug that affected the appearance of visited links when using mobile device to access wiki sites. It made the links appear black; this issue is fixed.

Community Configuration
Growth features are currently configurable at Special:EditGrowthConfig. This quarter we are working on making Community Configuration accessible for other MediaWiki developers while also moving Growth feature configuration to the new CommunityConfiguration extension.
An early version of Community Configuration can be tested at Spanish Beta Wikipedia. We plan to release the new Community Configuration extension to pilot wikis (Arabic and Spanish Wikipedia) in early May, 2024. The first non-Growth team feature to utilize Community Configuration will be Automoderator.
In parallel with the development, the Growth team will propose Community Configuration usage guidelines, Community Configuration design guidelines, and provide technical documentation.
The Growth team conducted an experiment to assess the impact of the “Add an Image” structured task on the Newcomer Homepage's "Suggested Edits" module. This analysis finds that the Add an Image structured task leads to an increase in newcomer participation on the mobile web platform, particularly by making constructive (non-reverted) article edits:
The likelihood that mobile web newcomers make their first article edit (+17.0% over baseline)
The likelihood that they are retained as newcomers (+24.3% over baseline)
The number of edits they make during their first two weeks on the wiki (+21.8% over baseline)
A lower probability of the newcomers' edits will be reverted (-3.3% over baseline).
This feature was developed for Mentors as part of the Growth team's Positive Reinforcement project. When A/B testing on Spanish Wikipedia, we found no significant impact on retention, but we found a significant positive impact on newcomer productivity. However, we concluded that the results weren’t positive enough to justify the time investment from Mentors. We plan to discuss this feature with our pilot wikis, and consider further improvements before scaling this feature further. Meanwhile, communities willing to test the feature can ask to have it deployed. (T361763)
As in previous years, donors were directed to a Thank you page after donation (example). However, this year we tested a new “Try editing Wikipedia,” call to action on the Thank You page. This call to action linked to a unique account creation page. From this account creation page we were able to track Registrations and Activation (editing for the first time). During the English banner campaign, the Donor Thank you page led to 4,398 new accounts, and 441 of those accounts went on to constructively edit within 24 hours. (T352900)

Annual Plan
The Growth team and the Editing team will work on the WE1.2 Key Result in the coming fiscal year. We will start initial discussions with communities soon to help finalize our plans. (T361657)
We plan to A/B test adding a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We are early in the planning phase of this project that will take place first at our pilot wikis and wikis volunteering. We welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
