Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Western Australia/Perth archive
SuburbsFirst off, nice work on the suburb categories Shinjiman. I'd like to help you out with WikiProject Perth. You might have noticed that I started the list of Perth suburbs and created stubs for a lot of those suburbs, I just haven't had a chance (or the motivation) to create the rest. For information about the suburbs I've found DOLA, REIWA and the local councils websites have been useful, although I've still got to read the copyright info for DOLA. If you need assistance with anything please let me know, otherwise I'm going to continue adding suburbs. Meesham 09:42, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC) Is there anyone have the comments about the Article naming for the suburbs? Seems some names are names as [Suburb A, Western Australia], but some of them are named [Suburb B, Australia] or [Suburb C]. Is that we need to unite them to a uniform naming conveetions?? :) Shinjiman 16:20, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC) When I started adding some I only added Australia or Western Australia to disambig with other articles. Other editors have been changing some of them over to [Suburb, Western Australia], and for ones that I've been working on recently I've been changing them over to that format too. I think [Suburb, Western Australia] would be the best format, so that would be my vote. Meesham 16:38, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC) Support. :D Shinjiman 03:42, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC) If we don't get any other responses in the next couple of days we should probably just go ahead with changing them, I've already been changing a couple as I go along. I think South Perth is now a good example of what we should try to aim for for atleast the local council pages, maybe all of the suburb pages. This is thanks mainly to an anonymous user (203.59.82.69) who added a lot of the history, although finding history for the other suburbs will probably be difficult. The only thing that page is missing now in my opinion is a map of the area, showing the boundaries of the suburb and/or the local council. It could probably also do with a bit more information about the current state of South Perth, like popular areas etc (I'm not too sure, as I'm a northerner :) ) Meesham 10:32, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC) Hi guys, I've finally worked out how to contribute (I think I've got it right!) to this page. I only recently discovered the Wikipages and more as an experiment than deliberate intent, I decided to add some material to the South Perth page. Mainly this was because my Wife works for the City and I pick up lots of useful history and information. The COSP webpage has a lot of information about suburb and street name history; I know because I did a lot of web research for her at home. The pages are buried very deep in the website but are worth searching for. The REIWA website is singularly unhelpful. I've also done a bit on Waterford, for the same reasons as above, and also added some stuff about Dianella. --Robert Fraser 07:49, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC) Suburb InfoboxesLike the infoboxes for the train/bus stations, should there be one for suburbs? Such contents could be name, a picture with the dot on where the suburb is, public transport in the suburb, parks, gardens, lakes, attractions etc? EDIT: Found one that exists, tried an example with Innaloo, Western Australia Trisreed my talk my contribs 09:38, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Added and changed parts to suggestions. It is also set so that the dot map is based on the name of the council. Trisreed my talk my contribs 09:22, 31 October 2005 (UTC) No Dot Map - Find a free alternative to this? Maybe a similar picture of the zoomed out metro area? Boochan 11:08, 31 October 2005 (UTC) How about a representative picture instead of the dot? I tried for characteristic images for Mt Lawley, Inglewood and, to a lesser extent, Cottesloe. More informative than a dot, and once the Kvaleberg extension (the {{coor d||N/S||E/W|}}-Template that gives locations such as 31°57′07″S 115°51′32″E / 31.952°S 115.859°E) is implemented fully (like in the German wikipedia; see the top of this page for example), the dots may well be irrelevant - Gobeirne 18:09, 31 October 2005 (UTC) Great Idea. We got pictures of all the train/bus stations, so why not try and get indivdual pictures of places in suburbs that are well known? Boochan 23:28, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Suburb for Perth Airport and NewburnI've found out there's a suburb called Perth Airport, and its postcode is 6105. Completed SuburbsThe project page for WP:PERTH shows a progress bar with 94 of 350 suburb articles being listed as complete. Where is the list of complete suburb articles, and how do we add one or increase the counter if we have completed another? I have just expanded Ballajura quite a bit. -- Renesis13 09:22, 17 March 2006 (UTC) Naming conventions of Perth suburbs and Perth LGAsIt's quite common that one of the Perth suburb is the name of LGAs. Is that needed to disambig (split) the articles that explaining the suburb itself, and the other explaining the LGA? And also some LGAs is not containing the suburb itself, is that better to change the article name to the LGA name (like [City of ..., Western Australia], [Town of ... Western Australia] and [Shire of ..., Western Australia])?--Shinjiman ⇔ ♨ 04:58, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
use of clarifier (xxx ,Western Australia)I came across this article Perth Airport, its on a redirect from Perth Airport, Western Australia. Places using "Perth" like this should have the clarifier(DAB) added in every case, with redirects coming from the general title. When other Perths add articles the rediect page can become a DAB page. Category:Local Government Areas of PerthAnd while we're on the subject, I would very much like to see this category obliterated. There are no local government areas of Perth; there are only local government areas of Western Australia that just happen to be in the Perth metropolitan area. How do people feel about me depopulating this into Category:Local Government Areas of Western Australia and deleting it? Hesperian 23:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
This article has been butchered since July. Hesperian 05:58, 27 November 2007 (UTC) House valuesThe conversation has taken place in other forums as well, but I'm raising this specifically with regard to Perth. Is there a need for the housing value to be in each of the suburb articles? Reason I ask is that it has to be updated every 3 months, but updating 338 articles is actually quite a challenge, especially if the formatting on each article is not the same. About Train Station succession boxes
This is the sample train lines milestone which appears throughout the electric poles in Perth railway lines. The first row indicates the train section. The second and the third rows are indicates the distance from Perth Station. and the fourth row indicates the direction of the line. According those information on the pole, we can determine the information for the train lines, which includes: In general, up direction are towards Fremantle, and vice versa for down direction. In original, I've created the train station articles according to the train lines track directions order. See also Wikipedia talk:WikiProject_Melbourne/Railway_stations#Up_and_Down for reference about in Melbourne. But however, which way to express the train succession boxes are better? Better need to know the others opinion... --Shinjiman ⇔ ♨ 16:28, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Train InfoboxesI noticed in the train infoboxes there is a new section called 'SmartRider Format'. Is this needed? Most of the articles have no details for this and 'Fare Gates' has the same purpose ie if there is not fare gates, it is a mobile processor. Trisreed my talk my contribs 08:14, 24 October 2005 (UTC) Will be fairly important as the Smartrider is released January 2006. Fairly big difference between the two. Bus servicesjust a few issues to address 1. should we put all connecting bus services for all stations.. example: Oats Street is considered a station with connecting bus services (with bus stands) but Shinjiman has also put other routes which don't have an allocated official stand i.e. 282 and 283.. so should this be the case for all other stations? e.g. Kenwick is not officially a station with connecting bus services, but 220 passes by the station along Albany Highway 2. the Esplanade Busport page is in a mess, maybe putting all the bus stands in order, then showing which company owns which service by colour? like all sWAn Transit can be in orange, then Southern Coast Transit in red and Path Transit in green? Line NamingI was just looking at Innaloo and Hillarys articles the train line is referred to the joondalup lime on innaloo and the northern line on hillarys what should the train lines be referred to as. i've always thought they are midland, armadale, freo, joondalup and now mandurah. Can someone confirm the names and then we need to ensure the suburbs are consistant with what ever format Gnangarra 10:08, 7 February 2006 (UTC) The lines are indeed the Joondalup, Midland, Fremantle, Armadale, Thornlie, and Mandurah lines. These are the official names. Sandstorm6299 10:12, 21 May 2006 (UTC) New Line TemplatesArnzy has recently introduced a new template to the Perth station page. I have readily accepted this change, and I have even contributed to it by adding several things to it. But now I have found that I may have added more additions than necessary. I would like to know what is truly necessary? Obviously, we need the line, previous and next stations, and the colours. Will it be necessary to fit in the patterns and zones as well? (see Claisebrook to see what I am referring to.) I have found the previous template more than adequate, but Arnzy may have changed to this template to make all rail line templates in wikipedia the same. Sandstorm6299 10:12, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Nice job Trisreed on adjusting the template. I guess I'm not very good at creating a good one. I'll get back to my usual updating and editing. Thanks again for clearing the terrible attempt I made! Sandstorm6299 13:53, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi guys, a short intro, I'm Arnzy, and in general I'm a railfan that has travelled on Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth systems. Getting onto things, as you all know, I was the one to implement this style of template to keep it to consistency with most other rail systems. However, the improvements to the template have been good ones as it does suit the Transperth rail system perfectly with the many running patterns and so on. Good work. --Arnzy (whats up?) 11:45, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Applied template to all stations on Armadale/Thornlie Line. Sandstorm6299 17:37, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
I have adapted the new Transperth template and made one for the Transwa services (see the Transwa template). Hope this keeps a bit more uniformity between the metro and regional rail services in the Perth pages. Now only the Indian Pacific is left, but it would be pretty weird to change only the WA pages (East Perth and Kalgoorlie) since the rest of the stations are in SA and NSW. Sandstorm6299 05:50, 1 July 2006 (UTC) I've seen this article, seems the name has been changed into Garden City Bus Station by Bergoine, is that the name of the station has been changed? Seems these changes is not verifiable, and cannot found in the Transperth website, which is in official. --Shinjiman ⇔ ♨ 17:55, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Train station sucession boxesSome changes to the succession boxes for the station made by yours truly make the Joondalup line head in the same direction of Fremantle, as they do in real life. So the revised track direction looks like this; This doesn't have appeared to have caused any conflicts, so it will stay like this hopefully. Also, regarding the Mandurah line, when it does come into service we should have the track direction the same way as Armadale/Thornlie and Midland, since it heads in that direction, and the Clarkson line will carry on to Mandurah--M W Johnson 06:59, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Confusing Train Station Navigation BoxesFor someone who is not from Perth, I find the new railway station navigation boxes confusing - for someone unfamiliar with the railway line stop categorisations, even if you can go to the Line page and look at it, it is very confusing if all you want to know is what the adjacent stations are Every other railway system with pages on Wikipedia does it this way and it is a lot easier to navigate. I suggest you put them back to just show the next station on each page or find a way to put the letter codes and the next stations on the navigation table. (JROBBO 01:30, 8 June 2006 (UTC)) Well, we tried making it as simple and yet as comprehensive as possible so that we would cover every bit of information on the routes. I don't seem to see anyway to improve it, but maybe that's because I'm from Perth, so that's why I can't pick out the bad points. Maybe you could suggest what could be done to improve it. I'm sure people here will be willing to discuss. Improvements and feedback on Warwick railway station, PerthThis article has been bugging me for a few days since I saw the extremely poor state it's history section was in (only a single line). Transperth line coloursIn thinking about the coming opening of the Mandurah line, I’ve begun to wonder about the most appropriate way to represent it when updating my map of the railways (see Transperth Trains), so I thought I’d bring it here. Even though the Joondalup and Mandurah lines are to form one complete north-to-south route (and, indeed, already do as far as Esplanade), Transperth have chosen to give each of them an individual colour. So far, I’ve been showing the Mandurah line separately, in its official colour, but is this the best choice? Is it more important to reflect official usage, or to represent the actual service operated? David Arthur (talk) 23:30, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

I was accidentally cruising the Perth Street entries on Perth Stubs. I will refrain what I think of most of the entries. Someone needs to set a much higher standard - if not a template example- just compare St Geos Tce with Murray St and Forrest Place - As for the Forrest Place entry, refs are the last thing I am thinking of when I check the other streets, the inconsistency and mess is more important to cleanup at this stage, it's as though they are not in the same city. One: someone needs to do a template map of the cbd. Two: someone needs to check books rather than links to web pages with almost irrelevent info. There is a very strong need for a very strong editorial broom through the weird and wonderful collection of Perth Stubs. Unfortunately I have neither the time at the moment, or the sufficient sense of humour to cope with issues that will no doubt arise. Maybe someone else will take up the call. Refs later, consistency and thinks to tie it all together like a map or box for each entry.User:SatuSuro 13:58, 15 July 2006 (UTC)"
Perth Street Article TitlesFollowing a recent change - it is obvious a consensus is needed ( possibly with explanation of background - to refer to editors who might not have been part of the extensive issues in the formatting of names of places and things in australia in general) and a policy needs to be made about how Perth streets and article titles fit into the greater scheme of things before we have divergent title usage. SatuSuro 06:10, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
<-- (edit conflict)*Olive branch I think the bracket street (perth, western australia) convention is a lot cleaner. That also the reasoning for use at WP:Australian places. We also need to consider names like Queen st, Aberdeen st as I think it would be likely that our friends in Scotland will probably have those names. Gnangarra 11:26, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Disambiguation link repair: PerthI guess here is as good a place as any to bring attention to the page Perth. It's a disambigaution page (which is fine), but that means that if someone accidentally uses "[[Perth]]" when they want to link to Perth, Western Australia then the reader has to make an unnessessary vist to the dab page. This can be fixed by performing disambiguation link reapir on Perth, using its What links here. I thought it might be a simple job for someone who's interested, a minor way to help this WikiProject.--Commander Keane 19:49, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Use this method where the request is not an immediate necessity, and on the talk if you have a specific requirement for the photograph then leave a message. Some differentiation was necessary - I ended up with the following schema: Suburbs and LGAs
Transperth/PTA
This is quite arbitrary, so I'm happy to hear feedback, and in particular anything that anyone thinks has been incorrectly rated. If you see a Low suburb that definitely should be Mid, just rerate it yourself (note - only change the Perth-importance tag! All suburbs should be low on the "importance" tag except for our two top ones), but anything involving High and especially Top should go here for discussion. Orderinchaos 04:56, 25 April 2007 (UTC) Culture in WAHi all... I've just started editing under a username, I was previously known as all sorts of little number groups making small corrections to articles. I'm just dropping a note here regarding the Culture categories. I have created a new category "Culture in Western Australia" to house the cultural sections of the WA and Perth Wikipedia projects, as they all seemed to be floating around ekeing out their own separate existences and were thoroughly tangled! Also sorted out the 100% redundancy between "Media in Perth, Western Australia" and "Radio stations in Perth" - the latter seems a more logical place, and it is a subset of Media in Western Australia anyway. I also note the relative dearth of arts information, and am hoping to get something up on Artrage and FORM soon. If anyone has any suggestions or requests or ideas I'm all ears ! One final thing - "Perth, Western Australia culture" looks awkward and odd. I realise it started off as "Perth culture" and got renamed, but given we have to disambiguate the name maybe "Culture of Perth, Western Australia" would look better? If others agree maybe we can get it speedy renamed. Zivko85 11:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

WP:Perth/WP:WA
I am here to propose the deletion of the WP:Perth project. My reasons are as follows;
Any thoughts on this? Thanks. Twenty Years 16:23, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
In March we discussed a proposal to drop the WP Perth Project and the consensus was to make it a taskforce of WP:WA. I'm still a bit unclear what that actually means in a practical sense but see we still have all of the Perth quality and importance categories hanging around. Are they really necessary? And is the WP AUS Perth=yes parm necessary also? There just seems to be so much overlap and demarcation with these admin functions it is always confusing. I have no problems with maintaining a separate taskforce talkpage, if that is still the consensus. Moondyne 03:28, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
