Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Zealand/Music task force
Assessment guidelinesI suppose we ought to nut out some guidelines for assessing music-importance. I'll throw my thoughts into the ring for a start:

CollaborationWithout starting an official collaboration project, I suggest we put a bit of effort into Goldenhorse - a relatively prominent band whose article is quite a mess. A lot of unverified yet challengable and not very neutral material, plus irrelevancies such as all the stuff about de Palma. dramatic (talk) 05:53, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Scope queryShould NZ radio stations (plus sub cats) fall within the scope of this project? If so, I note that they are not tagged (at least not the sample of stations that I've had a look at). Schwede66 19:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Request for comment: Use of succession boxes in song and album articlesThere is an RFC going on at WT:CHARTS#Request for comment: Use of succession boxes for songs and albums reaching number one on RIANZ charts and other charts around the world. Interested parties are encouraged to participate. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 10:09, 21 December 2010 (UTC) Article alertsI've worked out how to make a category-based article alerts subscription for the politics task force of WPNZ. If you'd like a subscription for this taskforce, please let me know here and I'll repeat the steps for you. Schwede66 23:49, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
I've just discovered two incorrect claims in The Feelers, which kind of puts the accuracy of the whole article in doubt, especially since most edits have been performed by anons. dramatic (talk) 18:43, 14 April 2011 (UTC) Promethean EditionsI see that Promethean Editions is a Wellington company, so members of this group might want to have a look whether the company is notable. In its current form, there isn't any suggestion of notability whatsoever. Schwede66 05:43, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Notability of Nature's Best SongsHi all, I've started adding information as I couldn't believe that Loyal by Dave Dobbyn didn't have a dedicated song page, given how important it is for NZ culture! One thing I've been wondering, are all the songs from Nature's Best (i.e. voted as important NZ songs) worthy of at least a mention. There's certainly nothing about #1 (Nature) and quite a few gaps throughout the system. In some cases the songs may just be covered by album or artist, but surely, sales aside, they have to be notable. I know it's only one voting system, but still, it's the only voting system of any clout we've ever had! Vickytnz (talk) 17:34, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Cheers, will do. NZ On Screen has recently published a lot of stuff to do with New Zealand music videos (as well as TV) which is useful in terms of notability and reliability. Vickytnz (talk) 14:33, 26 September 2012 (UTC) Separate pages for NZMAs pre-2008 and NZ #1 albums pre 1999Are either of these options for dedicated pages? I've added in all the details for post 1980 NZMA nominees (e.g. the 2000 awards) and wonder if the pages are getting a little overloaded for the year page. Conversely should the overall page have all these details by category and show the winners/nominees per year? Also, I note that NZ #1 singles on the RIANZ page go back to the 80s, but the albums only go back to 1999. Just trying to figure out what I should put time into given that list stuff is pretty easy to do once the data is on Wikipedia :) Vickytnz (talk) 12:31, 5 October 2012 (UTC) Vital articlesThere is a discussion occuring here regarding which music articles should be deemed vital to the Wikipedia project. Your input would be appreciated. GabeMc (talk|contribs) 22:09, 19 March 2013 (UTC) Request for information on WP1.0 web toolHello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables. We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC) Kia Ora, I'm making a page for a single by OMC, called On The Run. I found I could upload the non-free cover of the single if I followed a specific process, which I tried my best at- but I may have done it wrong, and it may need to be deleted. I'd appreciate some help if it gets taken down. Cheers. Aubernas (talk) 09:52, 14 February 2021 (UTC) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:On_The_Run_(OMC_song)_cover.jpg
Hi Schwede66, here is the image i tried to upload- https://www.google.com/search?q=omc+on+the+run&safe=strict&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiK-tCU1fDuAhXXyTgGHaomBn0Q_AUoAXoECBAQAw&biw=1366&bih=657#imgrc=twc-UwzTPNG4VM and i tried copying and pasting the non-free use rationale from this album cover- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Unknown_Mortal_Orchestra_-_Multi-Love_album_cover.jpg cheers--Aubernas (talk) 10:05, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
Hi Schwede, sorry to bother you again, but I tried filling out the form for the Wikipedia file upload wizard, and it still did not work because the upload button refused to work. Is this a common problem? Form is filled out completely. Aubernas (talk) 09:37, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
Needs clean-upBill_Direen - Atsme 💬 📧 22:05, 30 March 2022 (UTC) Coverage of classical musicians in NZI was surprised to discover that there are so few NZ-based classical musicians currently listed in en:Category:New Zealand classical musicians. As one example, there is currently no article for Vesa-Matti Leppänen, who has been the Concertmaster of the NZSO for 20 years.[1]. Other well-known classical musicians without articles are the violinist Amalia Hall and the guitarist Matthew Marshall. The relatively small numbers of classical musicians with articles may perhaps indicate that for many performers there are insufficient sources to support an article, but I still think this is a significant gap, and is worth time and effort. Perhaps it warrants a campaign of some kind ? Marshelec (talk) 19:37, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Meltdown Records AfDI have tried to find information about Meltdown Records, a 1980's Massey University linked record company form the 1970's without much success. If any of you have access to publications on the New Zealand music scene from that era I would appreciate it if you could take a look at the article and see if you can make any improvements otheriwse they are heading for probable deletion. Requested move at Talk:Royals (Lorde song)#Requested move 7 June 2024![]() There is a requested move discussion at Talk:Royals (Lorde song)#Requested move 7 June 2024 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. Векочел (talk) 12:24, 7 June 2024 (UTC) Crystal Palace TheatreI've created an article for the Crystal Palace Theatre. The building has a lot of history with the New Zealand music scene although I have no familiarity with it personally. It may help if someone familiar with the subject tries to expand/clean up the parts about the music scene. Traumnovelle (talk) 00:52, 24 June 2024 (UTC) |
