Participants will be invited to submit pictures of listed structures of significant importance (eg grades I or grade II* or equivalent), as recorded by English Heritage, Historic Scotland, Cadw and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency . The main external website for competitors can be found here, and you can leave a message there if you have queries about competing. Do please join in, and let people in your local area know of this excellent way in which both existing and new Wiki users can help improve the encyclopaedia by contributing photographs of local listed structures. What about organizing a local Wikimeet to attract new people? In preparation for the start of the competition on 1st September there is still quite a lot of work to do, and we would like to ask for the help of members of this wikiproject. Many of the listed structures are residential or other buildings, but there are a significant number of rail-related listed structures that may be of specific interest to members of this project. Your local and expert knowledge will be invaluable in ensuring that the lists of eligible structures are up to date and correctly formatted. If you look at Listed buildings in the United Kingdom you will see how many structures are included. If you then follow the links, you can get to the detailed lists for your area. Alternatively have a look at the WLM planning table. Can you help to ensure that the lists for your area are up to date and well presented? Some of the lists have been semi-automatically generated from data provided by the official listing organizations. These use pre formatted templates (eg EH header) which will make it much easier for competition participants to upload their photographs to Commons as an automated process. Please don't change the template structure, as we need to ensure that the templates are properly compatible with the WLM standards that are in use worldwide. The format will allow a bot automatically to collect the information and to put it into the international Monuments Database. The data still needs the attention of local editors:
For further information, please see Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in the United Kingdom. If you have any queries, please post them not below but on the Organizers' help page on Commons. Anything you can do to help improve these lists will be much appreciated. The final deadline for cleaning up is 31st August. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:22, 22 August 2013 (UTC) Invitation to User StudyWould you be interested in participating in a user study? One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations. This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g: • Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film • Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers. • Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc. • Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____ • Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to: Project leaflets — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adikhajuria (talk • contribs) 16:13, 12 June 2014 (UTC) A new one just uploaded. As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC) Nova ScotiaThis is a request to add a designation to {{Designation}}: the Heritage Property Act (Nova Scotia). This heritage legislation is provincial in scope ("State/provincial designations"), limited to sites in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Under the legislation, both the province and municipalities can designate sites and cultural landscapes, while municipalities can also designate heritage conservation districts. I cannot find a source that indicates how many sites are designated under this legislation, but apparently 1008 are listed so far on the Canadian Register of Historic Places. Callnames should be NOVA SCOTIA, NSHPA, and NOVA SCOTIA HERITAGE PROPERTY ACT. It doesn't really matter which colour is chosen for {{Designation/colour}} and those templates that still use the colours as backgrouds - I've already added blue to {{Designation/colour2}} (to match the Nova Scotian flag) for those templates that use a border. Let me know if additional information is required. Thanks for your help. Cheers, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:30, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

75.128.34.228 (talk) 22:04, 20 February 2013 (UTC) GermanyI have noticed Germany is not mentioned on the project page. I was thinking of importing some of the lists from deWiki like de:Liste der Baudenkmäler in Freising and have two questions: 1: do you have a terminology guide in the project? 2. A quick scan of the articles I see you tend to use plain wikitables. The German lists tend to use templates for the individual entries and their area containers like de:Vorlage:Denkmalliste Bayern Tabellenzeile used as {{Denkmalliste Bayern Tabellenkopf|Gemeinde=Freising}} {{Denkmalliste Bayern Tabellenzeile |Adresse= Alte Poststraße 5 |NS=48.40392 |EW=11.75005 |Bezeichnung= Wohnhaus |Beschreibung=kleiner zweigeschossiger Schopfwalmbau mit Erker, Zwerchhaus und aufwändiger Fassadengliederung im Stil der Neurenaissance, erbaut 1888 |Nummer=D-1-78-124-1 |Bild= Alte Poststr 5 Freising.JPG |Commonscat= }} where the templates are state specific due to different registration and numbering systems used. Do you have similar template already in use, or would there be an objection if the German Structure would be imported for the German lists. In particular I like the feature of being able to add a Commons category to every object. This came up at AFD about one new article created "Jusay Ancestral House". We need some stuff to be set up to accomodate these, such as a list-article and an infobox and a category. There are some brand new Wikipedia editors, including some who are themselves conducting interviews and otherwise performing primary-type research about the historic sites. So there will be issues to sort out, about what material, with what sourcing, when relative to properties achieving what level of listing status, etc., can be included into Wikipedia articles. At the AFD, i offered to keep track of new articles created in this process, while asking AFD editors to hold off on nominating more for deletion. A Guy into Books (talk) 08:23, 7 August 2017 (UTC) I need Some new designationsHi, I have been wanting to improve Wikipedia's coverage of British Heritage Sites. As some people here have no doubt noticed, most statutory designations in England have been included in the National Heritage List For England (NHLE). "The National Heritage List for England (NHLE) is the only official, up to date, register of all nationally protected historic buildings and sites in England - listed buildings, scheduled monuments, protected wrecks, registered parks and gardens, and battlefields." (Quote from Historic England). This still does not include Locally Listed Buildings, or Conservation Areas. And being for England only does not include Scottish/Welsh/N. Irish equivalent listings. Now at this time Template: infobox historic site does not have designations for protected wrecks, registered parks and gardens, and battlefields. I also want Designations for Locally Listed Buildings, and Conservation Areas. Additionally I want to create an additional designation for the National Heritage List For England (as a header preferably). I hope this makes sense. If it is not possible to add all this to the Template: infobox historic site, i have created a separate template for the purpose at Template: infobox NHLE as you can see (by the blatant copying) this would simply the same as Template: infobox NRHP but for the NHLE. I have not finished this template, and if the needed extra designations can be added to Template: infobox historic site then it can be deleted as it wont be needed. I recommended perusing the information on Historic Englands own website rather than Wikipedia, as most the information here is based on the pre 2011 reforms and thus widely unhelpful. the designations i am taking about can be researched here: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/what-is-designation/ . A Guy into Books (talk) 08:14, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/what-is-designation/local/ is written in council-speak, you were correct the first time, local listings are not given by Historic England. At this point i think having the extra designations in an existing infobox would be best because making a new one is so much effort. (yes i have no idea how to properly code it:). Im not sure but I think most infoboxs can be embedded in others, which could allow a simpler infobox with only theses additional features, to be added to boxes like: Template:Infobox building or Template: infobox historic site. Thanks for the layout improvements, they make it much more readable. Regarding the new pages I agree with your comments regarding being area specific. The register is a closed register in that it has been superseded by other national and state registers; however, there are places that remain on the register. Many thanks. Yes, Nthep seems to have put UK Battlefields in correctly, I am going to test it out to see if the new bit works, and then we can add the Australian National Heritage List, you should probably chose a colour, something that will not look the same as an existing designation used in Australia preferably. Historic monuments code designation for RomaniaIn 2021 Timișoara will be one of European Capital of Culture cities. We expect many visitors to search for information, including Wikipedia. On ro.wp we plan to write about the historic monuments in Timișoara. In Romania the historic monuments are registered in the List of historic monuments in Romania (in Romanian: Lista monumentelor istorice – LMI). Here you find the official lists. Each monument has a code, the LMI code. Timisoara has 119 positions in this list. We have some articles on ro.wp (see article list here) and we intend to translate some on en.wp. On ro.wp the infobox contains the LMI code. Can this code be implemented at Template:Infobox designation list for use in Template:Infobox historic site? Obviously, this LMI code would also be used in other articles about historic monuments in Romania, not just those in Timișoara. Thank you. --Turbojet (talk) 07:25, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
Designation for Monument of National Importance (India)I request a designation for the historic monuments of India, designated Monuments of National Importance. About 3650 sites are designated. New designation? HABS / HAER / HALSHi! It'd be nice to have an infobox for sites listed in the Heritage Documentation Programs (the Historic American Buildings Survey, the Historic American Engineering Record, and the Historic American Landscapes Survey). I was assuming the "Infobox historic site" template would be the appropriate place to start, but I gather that new designations need to be proposed and accepted. Does that seem to be the right option for creating a HABS infobox? If so, I'm not quite sure what the official designation or color scheme should be (for reference: Heritage Documentation Programs from the National Park Service, and HABS/HAER/HALS collection from the LOC), or really how to go about this at all. If not, is there a better option? Thanks. Andrew Jameson (talk) 15:58, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Recent template changes broke a few list-type articles, recommend splitting them to fix the problemFirst, I want to thank OliverGalvin for improving Template:English Heritage listed building header and its companion template, Template:English Heritage listed building row. However, some pages that use this template are now "too big" for Wikipedia because their post-expand include size is over 2,097,152 bytes. Pages over the limit wind up in Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded. More importantly, templates, including reference templates, at the bottom of the page may not display correctly. As of 16:00, 18 August 2020 (UTC) this list included the following pages that call these templates:
A "live" list of article pages in that category along with the date they most recently exceeded the limit is here. The most straightforward thing to do is split the articles. Another option is to go back and re-do the templates so their "post-expand include size" is smaller, but as these articles were already "close enough to the limit" to be pushed over by a small change to a template, it's better to just split them. Some thought may need to go into how to handle the last two, so they don't lose their featured list status or jeopardize the featured topic status of Scheduled monuments in Somerset I don't have time to jump in and fix it now, I'm hoping someone else will see this and fix the problem before I get back to it. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:07, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
@Rodw: The issues discussed in November 2018 at User talk:Wbm1058#Scheduled monuments in Mendip and User talk:cyberpower678/Archive 60#English Heritage website changed the URL syntax for accessing its site database don't appear to have ever been resolved. I made a couple of demo edits for one solution, which still stand, but another solution involving using a bot to update URLs instead was proposed. Scheduled monuments in Mendip has ~300 transclusions of Template:Vcite web, which is similar to {{cite web}} except that it uses the Vancouver system, a popular citation style in science and medicine. The problem might be solved by converting Template:Vcite web to use Lua module coding, or changing the citation style of the article to use {{cite web}} instead of {{Vcite web}}. {{Vcite web}} only transcluded on 161 articles. – wbm1058 (talk) 18:04, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Historic markers with no buildingsHello everyone - my comment is about this site: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African-American_historic_places_in_South_Carolina I notice that there are a number of places listed that have historical markers, but there is actually no building there. I would like to remove these, and possibly have a new category created for African-American historic markers. Of course, this doesn't include sites like battlefields. But often we have a historic house that was demolished due to preservation failures, and a marker is put there as a stop gap. People seeing the list will expect to see a building there, so its a bit misleading. This is probably the case for a lot of historic places, not just African-American. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories. However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new Good article reassessment for Royal Albion HotelRoyal Albion Hotel has been nominated for a good article reassessment. RfC at Montacute HouseHello! I've opened an RfC at Talk:Montacute House on the placement and size of the images in the article, please join in if you would like. Thank you, A.D.Hope (talk) 11:13, 2 January 2024 (UTC) Hotel Constance is an NRHP-listed historic building in Pasadena, California. Three days ago, the article was moved unilaterally and without discussion to Pasadena Hotel & Pool. The article is about the historic buiding that has been known for a century in the historic perservation world as the "Hotel Constance". (Despite that name change, we did not change the Wikipedia article name to suit the branding decision. The building was purchased in 2014 and rebranded as the DusitD2 Constance Pasadena. It went into bankruptucy and was sold again in 2022, and the new owner in 2023 decided to rebrand the hotel that operates in the building as the "Pasadena Hotel & Pool". With historic buildings, it has been my understanding that we typically seek constancy (no pun intended). We don't change the name every time a new owner comes along and decides to rebrand the business. This is based, as I understand it, on the fact that the notability flows from the historic building and not from the hotel operation which may change its corporate affiliation and/or branding every decade or so. Accordingly, it is my pressent intention to revert the rename. Before doing so, I am interested in feedback from experienced users in this project. Cbl62 (talk) 09:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
Historical Marker DatabaseLately I have been corresponding with a "Regional Editor" at Historical Marker Database about possible collaboration. They have a little more than a dozen "Regional Editors" some of whom double as a "Topic Editor" like for war memorials or something. Each Regional Editor has a bit of the United States, and one of them also handles the Americas and another the rest of the world. So, the 200,000 markers are almost all USA. They have hundreds of "Contributors" who actually write most of the pages and snap the photos (they are big on photos) but new entries only get published into the site when the Editor approves, unless the Contributor has done well enough, often enough, to be promoted to Correspondent. (Have I reversed the ranks?) This all results, far as I see, in slow production of pages but high quality and rare revision after it's published. I figured every article that mentions something for which HMDB has a marker page, and every WD item about it, and every Wikimedia Commons picture of the marker, ought to have a link to the HMDB page. I have noticed that Wikidata has a Property for HMDB but if I put it in the WD item for a church or something, it raises an error flag because a church or town hall or battlefield or whatever isn't a historical marker, even if it has one standing on the lawn. Also I notice that ENWP has a Template for HMDB, but it seems broken and unused. And, in our List Articles (List of National Register of Historic Places in . . . ) most list items have not even a Wikidata link, much less a HMDB one. There is also an "Open Plaques" website that seems pretty much limited to the United Kingdom; presumably it works similarly but I'm concentrating on USA which implies sticking with HMDB. Can anyone suggest good ways for how we might go about linking this stuff together? I haven't even asked about links in the opposite direction; first I'd like to figure what we can do in our own house.
