ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:51, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from Urje4 on Bo Hines (07:09, 29 November 2022)

Parts of the information stated here is subjective and places by the opposition candidate. The news sources lack neutrality and they should be taken down. How can I do that? --Urje4 (talk) 07:09, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi Urje4, You can remove the information yourself. But I would leave a message on the talk page suggesting it. If you are going to remove it, you should give a reason in the edit summary. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:15, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Article improvement

Hi. Would you have a look at The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropistsand see if running the tools I have has done enough to remove the banner. Is there a better way (other than running the tools) to see without checking each citation? Thanks Lukewarmbeer (talk) 08:35, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Lukewarmbeer, what banner are you trying to remove and what are you trying to do with your edit, just so I can help understand how your edit went. Thanks, Zippybonzo Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:03, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

The one at the top. "This article uses bare URLs, which are uninformative and vulnerable to link rot". Lukewarmbeer (talk) 08:27, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Oh - and what I wanted to achieve was to convert the bare URLs mentioned in the banner and wanted to know if all I need to do was run the tools to do this. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 15:41, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
@Lukewarmbeer Yes, refill will work, and then you can delete the wiki text. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 17:58, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for that. It looks like you have done it for me. I was thinking of working on the basis that when I don't know what I'm doing I would check with you, get any advice, do it and then ask you to have a look at the work to see if ok or tell me where I went wrong.
What do you think? Lukewarmbeer (talk) 13:07, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
I like the initiative of it, and if on some cases you tried to find the answer yourself, that would be a great way to help you on the wiki. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:05, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2022 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since October. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

Blitz: Our October Copy Editing Blitz focused on July and August 2022 request months; and articles tagged for c/e in December 2021 and January 2022. Seventeen of those who signed up claimed at least one copy-edit, and between them copy-edited forty-six articles. Barnstars awarded are here.

Drive: In the November Backlog Elimination Drive, thirty editors signed up, twenty-two of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Both target months—December 2021 and January 2022—were cleared, and February was added to the target months. Sixteen requests were copy-edited and 239 articles were removed from the backlog. Barnstars awarded are here.

Blitz: Our seven-day-long December 2022 Copy Editing Blitz begins on 17 December at 00:01 (UTC)*. It will focus on articles tagged for copy-edit in February 2022, and pending requests from September and October. Barnstars awarded will be available here.

Progress report: As of 22:40, 8 December 2022, GOCE copyeditors have processed 357 requests since 1 January, there were seventy-four requests outstanding and the backlog stands at 1,791 articles. We always need skilled copy-editors; please help out if you can.

Election news: Nomination of candidates for the GOCE's Election of Coordinators for the first half of 2023 is open and continues until 23:59 on 15 December. Voting begins at 00:01 on 16 December and closes at 23:59 on 31 December. All editors in good standing (not under ArbCom or community sanctions) are eligible and self-nominations are welcomed. Coordinators serve a six-month term that ends at 23:59 on June 30. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, please nominate yourself or any editor you consider suitable—with their permission, of course!. It's your Guild and it doesn't coordinate itself.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers and best seasonal wishes from your GOCE coordinators, Baffle gab1978, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Tenryuu, and Zippybonzo.

Bare URLs

Just looking over this to try and and understand the process there is still one bare URL showing - but I can't really tell which it is from looking at the page. Is it reference 7? Lukewarmbeer (talk) 11:38, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

@Lukewarmbeer Yes, it is no7. You might have to do it manually as automated tools aren’t able to do everything. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 18:21, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks.I ran the tool initially but it left that one and I have updated manually. I think I'm there with that now :) Lukewarmbeer (talk) 17:00, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Could you assist with a brief explanation of the 'flags' that appear (as below) on contributions or changes pages....

Or where the best place to find out is.

current   prev   rvv   rb Preview Rollback Quick rollback Vandalism Rollback  [rollback] [vandalism]

Thanks Lukewarmbeer (talk) 18:00, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

@Lukewarmbeer current takes you to the current revision, prev takes you to the previous revision, rvv undos and warns for vandalism, rb undos. Preview looks at what an undo would look like, quick rollback quickly undos it. Vandalism rollback undos it and warns for vandalism. Rollback undos for a reason you can specify. Vandalism undos with the edit summary mentioning vandalism as the undo reason. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:37, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from Mprateek (04:39, 19 December 2022)

Hi, I am trying to edit an article that is not present on Wikipedia yet but it got "protected" after a few edits. How do I unprotect it? --Mprateek (talk) 04:39, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

@Mprateek Hi, welcome, it has likely been salted (creation protected) so you would need to request it to be unprotected at WP:RfPP and mention the page and why it should be unprotected. If that is declined, or if you don’t want to request it, you can ask an administrator to create it and they will either create it or not. If the page you want to create is Manupatra, I wouldn’t bother because it has been repeatedly protected from creation. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:40, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Beira's Place

Hi

I have been having a look around and and following the Recent changes

I noticed one that sparked my interest because of a 'flag'.

Could you have a look at the history of the page to see what's happened and the Talk:Beira's Place to see how I have been dealing with it and give me some feedback.

When it became apparent that we were unlikely to see eye to eye I invited the originator to have a look and you can see his response - which as I say on the page - I think is perfect.

Can you advise how best to proceed from here if Special:Contributions/109.144.213.18 a) doesn't respond b) responds but disagrees.

Thanks

Lukewarmbeer (talk) 17:35, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

I am able to agree with you and the other editor, but I do think that removing “criticism” when there are sources supporting the statement is censorship. But I think that the IP has changed IP addresses, and therefore will not respond form the same IP, but if they don’t respond, think about an RfC and if they do respond, I would consider suggesting to them starting an RfC as that is probably the best way to get input on what would be the best thing to do for the article. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:46, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. I think we are sorted with that one now but the RfC looks like a good plan for future use. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 11:39, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
I was going to say that it looks pretty sorted. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 13:49, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sipnget (08:23, 29 December 2022)

Good day!

I was wondering how I can apply a specific format to a text in a table: "Nominated" with a red background "Won" with a green background. I saw it being used in awards nominated/won tables for artists and I want to try it, too.

Thanks in advance! --Sipnget (talk) 08:23, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

@Sipnget Hi, you can just add: style="background: [insert your colour];" before the content in a cell with a pipe (looks like this: |) in between the content and the quote mark. Or to colour the whole table you add this at the top of the table wikitext: style="background: [add colour]; Hopefully this answers your question. Thanks, and Happy Editing Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 09:39, 29 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from PTusiime (13:32, 3 January 2023)

I would like to edit an article in English that I recently read, how can I start? I would also like to translate it into French. --PTusiime (talk) 13:32, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi @PTusiime, to edit an article, just press edit and make your changes, then click publish or save changes, and then add an edit summary of what you changed in your edit. To translate, you can go to fr.wikipedia.org and create an article, you may need to make some edits before you can create an article and translate it into French as you wish. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 13:44, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Can you give me some feedback on this.

My inclination is to remove the two sections (Insincere moderation/editing and Confusing language/insincere moderation) from Special:Contributions/77.183.164.73 as vandalism .

What do you think.

They may have gone by the time you look - but in any event can you give me a view and - if to act - what best to do.

Thanks. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 14:32, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

@Lukewarmbeer Don’t remove them, as that is unconstructive, because the sections are not written in bad faith. I’m going to spend a bit of time evaluating the discussion and I will attempt to resolve the dispute, though I would advise you not to get to involved in the discussion, but I will take a look. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 20:12, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello Zippybonzo,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Question from Beverview (19:28, 16 January 2023)

Hi Zippybonzo, thank you for being my mentor! I have been making some minor edits, and have a few questions:

- Some pages have a full visual editor, and in others I need to edit the source (I am not sure what source it is in, maybe Wikipedia has its own style / source language). What makes the distinction between these? Is there a mode I need to set? - Related, one of the reasons I got on wikipedia is to change an outdated reference to a running club I am part of. However to change a reference (or delete it in this case), it says I need to use the source editor. See the first question :-). I'm actually not sure how to get into the source directly.

Thanks for any advice,

Beverview --Beverview (talk) 19:28, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

@Beverview firstly, the club Wikipedia page shouldn’t really be edited by you as it is a conflict of interest linked here. The visual editor isn’t available on all pages because there can be some elements not compatible with it. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:37, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Mentoring

Hi ZB

I'm thinking that you might have got busier than you had when you offered to assist so would it be better if I found someone else to take me on?

LWB Lukewarmbeer (talk) 10:04, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

@Lukewarmbeer I am somewhat busy, I am thinking that it might be better if I were to act in a support capacity, being able to answer your questions, I’m not unable to mentor you, and I’m happy to commit more time, but if you would rather follow some structure and a course, I can’t guarantee that I would be able to do that as much. I apologise for my lack of support and I would hope that we can work forwards with this. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 18:56, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply and the offer of your time. Let's give it a go. The course was your suggestion and I didn't have a course in mind to begin with so I'm not feeling the loss of one :)
You may recall my asking you about how to handle a debate in Beira's place and you said to leave to you. I was hoping you would guide me through the process rather than take it on. If that's ok with you that's how I would like to approach things.
An example I would like some advice on below. Please let me know what you think.
I have had an rfc on this and I'm thinking that the sources provided are not accessible unless you buy the books mentioned.
Q1. I'm not really sure, having looked at the helps on the subject if citing pages is books is good enough? Are they?
Q2. Would it be reasonable for me to reply......
I would like to see some more publicly accessible sources before coming to a view. As in publications that users can review without having to buy the books to which you refer.
Thanks again Lukewarmbeer (talk) 10:01, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Lukewarmbeer I would say that books are adequate, but if I were to read an article I would rather have an accessible source, rather than hope that the information in the book is part of the article, so I would suggest it but if nobody can do it, I would just leave it as books are adequate sources. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 16:37, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Status Quo and Consensus

Talk:Trans woman#Gender-affirming surgery

Can you have a look at this and see how I'm doing and if required provide advice / guidance (not on that talk page).

Thanks. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 09:53, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

No rush as I have thrown in the towel on this one now :0) Lukewarmbeer (talk) 21:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
@Lukewarmbeer you probably would be better off if when someone pointed a detail out like the fact that gender alignment is a term in medical books, unless you think that they are badly incorrect, don’t keep pushing your point, because there’s not much that can be done to help the cause if you’re fighting a losing battle if you get what I mean. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:27, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks.
The term is far from universal and certainly not in medical circles. This is just one current example. [1] Having read something on the subject I realise now that these terms have become 'political' and the articles which have a connection to this are developed and policed by a small 'special interest' groups of editors. When they decry the BBC as un unreliable source (i used it to illustrate the point that this is not simply done and dusted) it told me that discussing the issue was pointless.
I felt that as the term 'reassignment' was the status quo before a day or two ago and as I had reverted and objected the original term should prevail unless and until some consensus could be agreed. Is that the case? Lukewarmbeer (talk) 07:49, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Question from TheOneWikiWonder (06:35, 1 February 2023)

Hi Mentor

As I work to become a contributing member of Wikipedia, what advice do you have, if any, to offer a newcomer? I want to eventually be able to publish my own articles here in this space.

Warmest Regard TOWW --TheOneWikiWonder (talk) 06:35, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi TheOneWikiWonder, my best advice would be to be bold, and be prepared to make mistakes, and if you take some bold steps, you’ll have an article written in no time. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:10, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Lvisjk on User:Lvisjk/sandbox (12:17, 16 February 2023)

Can you please help me post this on the main Wikipedia directory --Lvisjk (talk) 12:17, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

@Lvisjk add {{subst:submit}}, and you may need to press submit, and then your article will be submitted for a review through articles for creation, and will be added to mainspace if it meets the standards for an article. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 14:00, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
@Zippybonzo Thank you for the quick reply. My page is relatively new, so I am unable to move the article to drafts. Would you be able to help? Lvisjk (talk) 14:06, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
@Lvisjk, I've gone ahead and added the template that submits it for review. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 15:38, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Rockroyally (20:36, 18 February 2023)

I want to edit the photo that is currently on the Phil Seymour Wikipedia page.

There are 2 photos on the page, one of him onstage and one of his first album cover. The onstage photo is the one that initially pops up on his page, but I think the the photo of his album cover should be the initial one seen by visitors. Visitors looking for Phil Seymour will immediately understand they are on the musicians page since they are seeing an album cover. Also this album cover is the most popular image of Phil online.

If the album cover photo cannot be made the dominant image, there is another photo I have been considering adding. That photo was taken by a photographer I know who has granted permission for its use. Does that photographer need to grant permission or watermark it in some way? Thank you for your help. --Rockroyally (talk) 20:36, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Mdinonno (23:49, 20 February 2023)

There is a lot of incorrect information on our page. I tried correcting it and someone rejected my corrections. --Mdinonno (talk) 23:49, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

Mdinonno The reason for that would be that you have a conflict of interest, which means you should refrain from editing the page, but if you are paid to edit the page, you aren't allowed to edit the page as paid editing is required to be disclosed and prohibits you from editing pages you are paid to edit. See here. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:38, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

I am not paid to edit the page. I am the President & CEO of the Geena Davis Institute and there is incorrect information on our page. Mdinonno (talk) 18:45, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Navpil (10:39, 8 March 2023)

Hi, Zippybonzo! I want to add a reference to my webpage about Chinese Dominoes, which list most of the games currently known played with Chinese Dominoes. The website is published on the "wordpress" platform. When trying to add a link, I got a warning from Wikipedia and I left a question on a Talk page as suggested. No one responds (I guess Chinese Dominoes are not a topic too hot). Would it be appropriate if I add a reference to my own website dedicated to Chinese Dominoes in a good will? Here is a reference to the talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Chinese_dominoes&oldid=1140080139 --Navpil (talk) 10:39, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Navpil, I would advise that you don't add your own links into Wikipedia pages because that can be classified as self promotion. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:20, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from KiDont508 (05:59, 23 March 2023)

I want to add a picture of someone named Charles Tambu. I found an official portrait image but it had a text watermark so I used photoshop to remove the watermark. Can such pictures be uploaded on Wikipedia? --KiDont508 (talk) 05:59, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

KiDont508 Assuming you downloaded the image of the internet then the only place the image is allowed to be added is the article, but if you just uploaded the image and didn't put it on a page, or if it was removed from the page, that would result in it being deleted. You have to add the appropriate copyright tags (non-free/fair use) and also add a reason why you are using the non free image on Wikipedia. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 07:16, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Rxgau (21:35, 24 March 2023)

Just read the Cheetah magazine stub and it is completely wrong. Suggest you read or reference pages 184-188 of my 2015 memoir Going Into the City, about my recollections of Cheetah, where I was a contributing editor. The most reliable source is the magazine's editor for most of its nine-month life, Larry Dietz, lsdietz716@gmail.com, 626-360-9400. I still have a full-time writing career at 80 and though I love and donate to Wikipedia I don't have time to do this work myself, though I might be able to send you the aforementioned four pages. But for starters Cheetah was not begun by my then-girlfriend , the late Ellen Willis; it was the creation of two hustlers who'd had success with the Diner's Club magazine, Len Mogel and Matty Simmons, who hired Willis on Dietz's say-so and fired her when they figured out what a lefty she was. --Rxgau (talk) 21:35, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Zippybonzo. After reviewing your request, I have temporarily enabled rollback on your account until 2023-09-30. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 15:01, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Why.. did you just revert my changes to List of British Army installations?

Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits. I added the closing dates? How is that vandalism? Militaryfactchecker (talk) 18:54, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

USPLACE

Hi Zippy. I think you may have missed some of the nuances of the USPLACE RFC, or I might be misreading your close. Hello, I tried to create an infobox for the new page I am working on but I had never made one before and it looks like I missed something. Could you please kindly tell me how to fix it? Thank you for your advice. best, --Crescendo102 (talk) 21:49, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

@Crescendo102, I've fixed it, you had a lot of nowiki tags, meaning it didn't use the template, and showed it in plain text. Let me know if you need any more help. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:38, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
@Zippybonzo I get this too it seems to happen on all templates when inserting them it wraps them in no wikis. ThatFungi (talk) 11:05, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
It's the visual editor offers to turn formatting into wikitext and it adds nowiki. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 11:06, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your kind help and fast response. Crescendo102 (talk) 18:56, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome. 😊 Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 18:56, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

The Rad editor

I noticed after all the COI talk on the pages he has now changed all the “ME” to “HIM”. Something fishy is going on there. Especially since he has not yet followed the COI instructions. Look at his talk history and look for his - numbers on his talk page. It might be time for an admin to handle it. I also thought I saw two other usernames similar to his one ending in 86 and another one. Since you are on the crime team I thought you might have more thought on this. ThatFungi (talk) 10:20, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

ThatFungi, I've decided to undo the changes of me to him, as they are clearly trying to obfuscate history, and they are clearly changing the story all the time, and they've made a dubious own work claim of the photo they uploaded it. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 10:45, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
@Zippybonzo I think it’s time to block and delete the article as it is clearly self promotion. Thanks! ThatFungi (talk) 11:04, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
@ThatFungi I've messaged an admin about it, as it's always good to get an extra pair of eyes. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 11:06, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Comments at WP:PERM

Hello ZippyBonzo, When patrolling, I have noticed you have left some comments at the requesting permissions page. I wanted to give you a suggestion that was actually given to me a few weeks/months ago. Non-administrators are discouraged from leaving comments because they tend to just clutter up the page and don’t usually help the administrator make a decision. You don’t have to take my advice, I just thought I would share. Anyway, I am coming up in my contributions number, I may in ~1 month overtake you. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 12:01, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

@Illusion Flame, I am aware of it, I tend to comment on some requests when there are problems such as shared account usage. I also comment on some NPR requests when I would consider the user suitable for NPP. I also comment on some Autopatrolled requests when I identify problems with some of the requestors articles, or if I’ve patrolled a lot of their articles. In a nutshell, thanks for the advice, I will consider it before commenting. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 15:47, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Okay. I don’t really mind your comments, and I don’t care what you do. I just thought I’d offer advice given to me. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 20:15, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
@Illusion Flame Thanks for the advice, sorry if my comment was a little firm, but I do agree with what you are saying and appreciate that you gave the advice, and I’m looking forward to you beating me in edit counts. Thanks for the advice again, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 20:49, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sabrinacozzi on User:Sabrinacozzi (10:35, 17 May 2023)

Hello how do I create a profile of a person? --Sabrinacozzi (talk) 10:35, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Sabrinacozzi Welcome to Wikipedia! If the person is notable, meaning there is coverage of them in reliable sources, you can create a page by searching for the page title, with a 'Draft:' in front and then clicking create, make sure to reference reliable sources. Because you are a new user, you won't be able to create new pages from the getgo, they will have to be reviewed by a more experienced editor. Let me know when you have finished your draft and I will be happy to review it for you, as the draft review backlog is quite long at the moment. Thanks, and welcome! Question from Bobafett2024 (04:07, 23 May 2023)

Hello, it's me again. So i uploaded an image for a brand logo 2 months ago, as they changed their brand logo.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCCW#/media/File:Lenovo_PCCW_solutions_logo.jpg

Today i received another editor ask for copyright status. The logo is a public logo, can I still use it in wiki? and it seems that i can fix it with puting the logo into publick domain, but I cannot find the options, in this case, i need help again, here is the text i type in the edit box, i do not submit it yet.

{{No license since|month=May|day=16|year=2023}} =={{int:license-header}}== {{Remove this line and insert a license instead|year=2023|month=04|day=13}} {{Uncategorized|year=2023|month=April|day=13}}

thx! --Bobafett2024 (talk) 04:07, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

@Bobafett2024, Hi, this is an issue on Wikimedia Commons, however I will say that the logo is non free content and therefore shouldn't be uploaded to commons, I would advise adding it to the article and uploading it locally on Wikipedia, as our licensing policies allow fair use of non free content. You may wish to ask at Wikimedia Commons as the editors there have more knowledge of how commons works. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:12, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Mass message sender granted

{{safesubst:require subst|template=Mass message sender granted|1=

Hello. Your account has been granted the "massmessage-sender" user right, allowing you to send messages to multiple users at once. A few important things to note:

  • Messages should only be sent to groups of users who are likely to be interested in the topic.
  • For regular mailings such as those for WikiProjects, localized events, or newsletters, users should be informed of how they can unsubscribe from future mailings.
  • The mass messaging tool should never be used for canvassing with the intention of influencing the outcome of discussions.
  • You can create a new MMS list of users by moving one from this page.
  • It is usually best to send a test message to yourself, ensuring that the test message doesn't break talk page sections, and that the test message has a timestamp (for bot archiving).

For more information, refer to the guidance for use. If you do not want mass message sender rights anymore, just let me or any other administrator know and we will remove it. Thank you and happy editing! <!

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello Zippybonzo,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Question from Rockroyally (04:08, 19 June 2023)

Hi Zippybonzo! I'm trying to start a Wikipedia page for a music group named RAZZ from the Washington, DC area. They are no longer together, but there are a number of references available online, as well as a recently completed documentary about them. I am personal friends with the existing members. The documentary filmmaker and I have discussed getting this off the ground. I have a bit more time on my hands to do this, but no experience beyond a small edit I made to another page years ago. I find the instructions for starting a page a bit daunting. Can you guide me? --Rockroyally (talk) 04:08, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Zippybonzo. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Hi Quick Question

Hi @Zippybonzo I saw you on Illusion Flame's talk page and I was wondering are you a teacher at the NPP School? Shadow345110 (talk) 21:20, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Shadow345110 a list of trainers can be found here. Also, you don’t have enough mainspace edits to apply for NPP school yet and I personally think you have a little bit left to learn before enrolling. Keep at it! - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 21:38, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Ok Illusion Flame to be honest I actually completely forgot about the 500 minimum mainspace edits. Thanks for reminding me. Hopefully if my draft gets accepted when submitted my mainspace edits will start building up as this draft I have quite alot of information ready and the WikiProject Professional Wrestling Sources is a big help. GA

Hey @Zippybonzo, thanks for expressing interest in a GA. Here's the link to Quintin Johnstone; the link to the GAN is here. GuardianH (talk) 20:15, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Hey, this is a pretty typical case where I'd relist – no consensus with participants still actively !voting after a week (4 !votes on July 5 UTC, the same day it was closed). Why the no consensus close over a relist and keeping the discussion actively going? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 01:00, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

@Skarmory, when there's almost even consensus and there's a decent amount of participation, I prefer to close over a relist, you can reopen it if you want though. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 06:46, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
I'm involved, so I can't reopen the discussion myself. The main reason I'm worried about the close is that discussion seemed to still be active at the time of the close, and in that case there's always the chance things shift and a consensus is found. Suwon station

Hey, I see you carried out the technical request for Suwon station, however it was being contested by me at the talk page. If you could kindly self-revert so that the discussion can be carried out, that would be great, thanks! :3 F4U (they/it) 03:59, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Ok, doing now. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 04:10, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi Zippybonzo, I am wondering if you would be interested in training me? I have a bit of experience but still think there's more to go before I'm comfortable with (or eligible for) things like the faster tools or rollback, and I'd like to build that experience with guidance rather than more errors. You've beaten me to the punch on more than enough edits that I immediately recognized your name in the list, lol. PriusGod (talk) 22:01, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

@PriusGod, sure, give me a minute to setup your course and I'll let you get to work. :) Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 04:25, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Zippybonzo. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account.

— Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 20:54, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
