Geobox at Mount Pico

While I suppose there is nothing technically wrong with using a Geobox template for a mountain article, it is almost never done. The vast majority of mountain articles use the infobox mountain template - {{Infobox mountain}}. We do use geoboxes for mountain ranges and passes among many other things of course, but for the mountains themselves, I and most mountain editors prefer the mountain infobox for several reasons:

• Consistency - Virtually all mountain articles use the infobox.
• Design - The infobox mountain template is specifically designed for efficient and effective use on mountain pages.
• Ease of use - The simple and concise nature of the template is more user friendly than than the geobox, imo.
• Familiarity - Many editors, like myself who edit mountain pages regularly, have grown familiar with editing in the mountain infobox, which helps our overall performance, particularly when making larger scale edits or sweeping edits over many pages.

For these reasons, shortly I will be removing the geobox from Mount Pico and replacing it with the latest version of the mountain infobox from that page's history. I know all too well the effort you put into converting the information to geobox. I have been there myself, converting German Wikipedia infoboxes to English Wiki for example. Tedious work. Unfortuantely, I think the change back is necessary enough to undo your efforts. Sorry.

Note that I will not be reverting, strictly speaking, your entire edit in question. I will not be touching any of the other changes you made to the rest of the article as part of that edit. Church of São Mateus (Calheta)

Hello Zeorymer. I was interested to see you were born in the Azores but I have a feeling you may have made a geographical error in your attempt to adhere to Wikipedia naming standards. As far as I can see, the article is about a church in the village of São Mateus da Calheta on the island of Terceira. If you want to use the style you have adopted, the correct title would then be Church of São Mateus (São Mateus da Calheta) which is a bit of a mouthful. The title you have now given to the article would normally mean that the church is located in the town or village of Calheta. However, Calheta happens to be a municipality on the island of São Jorge some 20 km to the east. I therefore suggest you move the article back to Church of São Mateus da Calheta. Interestingly, the Church of Santa Catarina or Igreja de Santa Catarina (Calheta) in Calheta also looks as if it deserves an article in the English Wikipedia. Braga - 89.13.179.61 identified as vandalism

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've remove the external link pointing to the Guide Braga, Portugal and identified as vandalism. I was not intending to make vandalism in the article of Braga when i insert this Link. Comparing to the existing external links i think this is a good informative guide of Braga. I would like to say I am sorry. I, looking back, realize that I did not address the issue on the Portuguese Geography in most polite or formal ways. I appreciate your heavy contributions to Portuguese-related articles and I hope that we can work together happily and efficiently. Should you like any help on the Queluz article I would be delighted to help, the palaces of Portugal, their history, and architecture are a passion. I have also done much artificial work on Lisbon's article. I would appreciate any feedback (User talk:Cristiano Tomás) on what I have done. I only wish the best for the Portuguese related articles, for wikipedia is perhaps the gateway to knowledge on Portugal to most people. Google Maps

Sorry to have messed up with pages of towns in Portugal with "Municipality" in their name. I don't know other ways to do address it. I noticed that the English vertion of Google Maps shows some town names with "Municipality" at the end, which seems to me to originate in Wikipedia, because towns that on the map don't have "Municipality" in the name, also don't have it on their Wikipedia page. I also could find "Minicipality" in the name of any town in other countries. "Municipality" takes a lot of space in Google Maps and it doesn't make sense that only some towns have it. Please let me know how should I address it.

The English title does look cumbersome, however if you check on the homepage of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, you will see the Portuguese name, which corresponds to the current English name. A Portuguese wikipedian who likes history?

Hi, Zeorymer. There has been quite awhile since we talked for the last time (I believe it was during the João VI/John VI naming dispute?). Do you know any Portuguese wikipedian who has true interest in Portugal's history and who could be of any help (except for Cristiano Tomás whom I already know)? English Wikipedia is a very hostile environment to foreigners (that is, people whose native language isn't English). Don't you remember the dipuste over the name of King João VI? The xenophobia in there was at the same time offensive and ridiculous. In the end, the article was left dead as it is. They don't even cared about the article.

Most foreign users simply give up and go do something else. Usually, you'll at most a single editor working around. It's very frustrating. I created a [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries/Empire of Brazil task force|task force focused in the Empire of Brazil] but it's more dead then a mummy. I was thinking about working in the Portuguese kings' articles, but unfortunately here in Brazil there are no biographies published about them, except for Afonso Henriques, Sebastão I, João VI and Pedro IV (the latter for obvious reasons). For example, I remember having seen sometime ago in a monarchist forum photographs of Queen Maria II. The forum no longer exists, so I was looking for smeone who could at least point out a book published in Portugal that could have such photos. I hope I'm not intruding, so please tell me if I am. Giving the conversation you two have been having and my obsession with all things of Portuguese royalty, architecture, and history in general, I have come with a thought. As I am not very versed in wikipedia policy and regiments as I am sure both of you are, I was thinking that we could great a Wikiproject:Portuguese history. I have always believed organization is the clear path to achievment and perhaps this could be a stepping stone to enlightening the Anglophonie on Portuguese history. Well, Cristiano, that's exactly the problem. Creating wikiprojects won't resolve anything. Take a look at Wikiproject Brazil and Protugal, both are dead. The Empire of Brazil task force is equally dead. There are few good people around and a lot of other who aren't. --Lecen (talk) 11:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Lecen on this part, principally since the numbers aren't there. The other problem, is that the Wikiprojects do have not had the power to contradict individual rules in order to impose a structure based on group consensus. Or specifically, we may create a Wikiproject, but we can not force other Wikipedia editors to abide by the consensus developed within these groups. There has to be a strong group of users that have come to consensus, adhering to the principals of Wikipedia, in order to structure content within that article-space. I refer to larger projects, who intervene on subjects, because they have the numbers and with a reasoned stance, argue for the evolution of the norms. Note, I say "argue" in the sense of reasoned debate. If the Wikiproject Portugal OR Brazil had a strong click of editors, then they could argue for new ideas. I, for one, wish to develop a core group to guide this development, but it will take like-minded peoples, who will not abandon the cause, nor degenerate into conflicts, name calling or xenophobic responses. But, more importantly, its about the content. My commitment here has been to advance content, and my ONLY narrow-mindedness has been on the use of Geoboxes. Yet, too, like young Cristiano, I believe that consistency should be maintained across this article-space. Why don't we get together on this subject. First, to hunt-down the Portuguese editors with capacities to elaborate the English content, then re-ignite the Projects: elaborate content. Debates on naming conventions are not dependable at this time. We can try changing "Sebastian" to "Sebastião", but purists will always champion the Anglicizing of names, and Google will only justify their argument. We don't need to debate this issue every second month. Gentlemen, we can't fall into a "poor us" attitude (that was not an insult directed at anyone), and lament that nothing can be done. There are things that CAN be done. Cristiano has done a great job in expanding articles and developing others on the nobility, architecture and history of Portugal. Lecen, I know you are a reasoned debater and have pushed the same content in Brazil. Just because we are "lone voices crying in the wilderness" does not mean that we should desist.
