Skills other than languages

I saw your post on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Babel#Skills_other_than_languages

I think it's a great idea. I'd like to create something like this for hobbies, sports, etc.

One could create template such as User_Sports_Football, User_Sports_Fencing, etc.

Language template help

Hello. Sorry to bother you, but your post at Wikipedia talk:Babel#How does one create the graphical template for lesser known indian languages seemed both helpful and knowledgeable. However, I failed to understand the example shown well enough to be able to create other templates "the right way" for other languages and skill levels.

Can you help me create (or create yourself) the following templates and categories?

• eo-4 (Almost-native Esperanto but not actually born to it) in the English Babel (See the suggested text in the text part of my user page).
• eo-4 and en-4 in the Esperanto Babel. (Or should I first ask somewhere if level-4 language ability is valid in the Esperanto Wikipedia?)

(Apparently level 4 is so recent that it hasn't yet spread everywhere.)

Thanks for your answer on my user talk page. Apparently "someone" went on and created the eo-4 template in the English wiki shortly after I posted the above request. About the xx-4 templates in the Esperanto Wikipedia, apparently none of them exist yet (in any language). I'm waiting to see if they "get into fashion" or not. (Esperanto is special of course, in that its native speakers are only a minuscule minority, even the natives have also at least one other "native" language, and the language norm is not set by the natives.) -- Tonymec 00:18, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Working on User instruments templates

Hello, there. I've been using some of the stuff under Category:User languages. (I added User organ, and I'm using it on my user page.) Recently, CyberSkull contributed some templates to Babel, which automate some of the formatting. Inspired by this, I did some work of my own for User instruments. I've notified everyone using the User instruments Babel stuff in their user pages that I plan to rework the templates. I thought I would tell you too, even though you're not even in any of these categories; you did, after all, start the thing if I'm not mistaken. Speaking of which, is it possible to now move this image back over the one I originally uploaded? Image:PanoChambord2 yfb edit3 downsampled.jpg is a pretty awkward name :) Or perhaps even simply reupload it as "Chambord façade.jpg" or something? Then presumably it would be ok to move the FP star to that version, and point to it from the FP list wherever that is. Just wanted to check that was ok with you before going and doing it. Hi Yummifruitbat,
Glad that the advice was useful to you. Yes Arcsoft is a very good program, although there are some problems for a more serious photography. It's got no manual control whatsoever and doesn't support multi layer segment stitching. That said though it does an impressive job in fully manual and can handle some pretty hairy panos.
I like your image, and the stitching is pretty much perfect. The lighting/atmosphere is very good and I personally like it (certainly more than the other image you comapred it with), however it suffers from the eternal problem - artistic vs encyclopaedic. I honestly couldn't say how it'd go on FPC if that was what you had in mind. If for the article, I woudl lean towards using yours. --Fir0002 21:36, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh the FSM nom! No I wasn't having a bad day, I was having a good day (strange as that may sound!). I was just in the mood to strike a chord and put a little zest into my oppose vote. If it's controlled by you, then no, you do not have the authority to remove comments you made, as this can hide evidence of your behaviour. If you wish to retract these comments, you may strike them through using <s></s> but it is unacceptable to do this to others' comments/votes as you did with Staxringold's on the Mount Rainier nom. If it's not controlled by you then you do not have the authority to remove the comments, or to strike them through. I appreciate your help on my help desk question. My 12 hours of fumbling yesterday you solved with one quick note. Many thanks. After your note, I had the image uploaded and nominated in about 10 minutes. I hope the world likes it. I know it's a common subject, but the lighting and strong colors had everyone on the street stopping and staring when I shot it.

BTW, I like a lot of your images, and am a big follower of Clapton. I'm a major Mississippi Blues junkie and have works by Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Wilie Dixon and all the others that Clapton credits as his inspiration and whose songs he plays to this day.

Hey mate! hope is all well. Took some friends to the pub last night and made them write down in english what I was reading in basque to them. Is not ideal, but then I dont know anyone that actually knows how to write in the phonetic language, so this will have to do. You can also find some information in basque pronunciation here and may be able to download the song for free here, although I have not tried it myself. There is also a cut version of it in LimeWire to download, a version by Kepa Junkera for one of Almodovar's films (beware that the lyrics in this one are slightly different, though!)

Because in english (not sure about welsh) there is no soft "r" sound, we have decided to change it for "d" sounds, but you can try to pronounce soft "r"s if you can. The italic letters is where the entonation of the word goes:

It does appear to be a single purpose account. I'm not really sure it's worth taking any further action at this stage, though. The disruption is more or less under control. Hopefully the user will either come to work within the relevant policies or get bored and give up fairly soon. The username could possibly also imply that they have some connection with the blog. If the user stays around for a longish period then it might be worth changing but probably a waste of time if he/she leaves soon. However, based on the posting of Friedrich Gustav von Schönberg (1839-1908), Ökonom at Schönberg, I'm wondering whether Schönberg's name has Friedrich in it some where. I initially listed my link in the Umberto Meoli article as Gustav (Friedrich) von Schönberg, but changed it to Gustav von Schönberg per your posting. The translation reads well. I tried figuring out what Gerichtsassessor means. In Paul von Breitenbach, it reads From 1873 he was "Gerichtsreferendar" (Assistant), from 1877 "Gerichtsassessor" at the civic court in Berlin, but that wasn't much help to me in figuring out Gerichtsassessor. Hello Yummi,I hope the following observation is going to be of some use.

"Gericht", of course, means "law" (or "justice") and "Assessor", well, means the same thing in English. So the literal translation would be "law assessor" or "assessor of law(s)", in other words someone who would assess what civil(?) law(s) would apply to any given case as it comes to court. I don't know if "law clerk" would do, probably not. The problem here may be that there probably is no equivalent functionary in the courts of the English speaking world. • In the US, two opposing lawyers prepare written documents to tell the judge what law applies to a given case. These written documents are read by the Judge's staff, such as by law clerk. Gerichtsreferendar seems to describe an assistant to a Gerichtsassessor. Law clerk's have secretaries to type letters and file. Does a Gerichtsassessor opinion have any legal authority? The terms Magistrate and Special master may be relevant here. This site says Gerichtsassessor is a legal official. Gerichts assessor may be a court assessor. Is there such a thing as a public prosecutor for civil law in Germany (Staatsanwalt)? That would fit best. -- Jreferee 18:19, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

• I've translated the German article on Gerichtsassessor, although I wasn't entirely sure of the intended meaning of some parts so it could definitely do with checking by a native German speaker. That article, as I read it, seems to mean that the role would be similar to a judge or public/federal prosecutor but presumably in a sort of "apprentice" capacity until they'd satisfactorily completed their year's service. Re translation requests

If you dont have time to do any of those translations, which is understandable, perhaps you could transfer the whole "kit and Kaboodle" to the requesr for translations from the German bulitin board, or tell me how & where to do that in the Wiki system. "Word's" "Copy and Paste" will make that job a cinch.

Yes, I have seen that Guardian article--it tells only that Mothercare did very bad sales in Christmas 2007. I do not see how a stub that looks like it was written by a company is anyone's hard work. What you are trying to do is erroneously conflate a specific instance with a general practice, which is not the case. At this point, I think you are condescending and hectoring, on false grounds, and it is serving zero constructive purpose. It is also absurd because it is 1) a dead issue 2) the article was complete crap, not someone's "hard work." The self-righteousness implicit in your "hard work" accusation, and your persistence in what I see as pointless arguing lead me to believe that you are simply concerned with "being right." Thanks you for offering to stitch up my photos. I was googling last night on the photomerge function. I was able to get fairly decent results. I tried shadow/highlight to try to fix the light problems, but that as you can see wasn't flawless.
